2hours to get to my car...

You realize that the TTC is literally NEXT DOOR to the Polynesian right? There's a dedicated walkway to the TTC specifically for the Polynesian. It would have taken you two minutes to walk from that bus stop to the tram stop at the TTC. The reason it took you two hours was because you waited for the bus.

The bus was sitting there empty, i was the only one on it. Plus i had my handicap uncle who i felt didnt really need to keep walking all this time, so we took a bus so he wouldnt have to keep walking

Secondly, why on Earth would you take a BUS from the Poly to the TTC? It's much faster to walk.

That was my first thought too. The walk to the TTC would probably be faster than the 15min wait for the bus, plus probably another 10mins on the bus.

Seems like the whole trip could've taken 30mins or so using the Poly boat and walking.

Gotta love it when important details are left out.

So it's Disney's fault you wanted to wait 50mins in the park and then take the slower transportation methods because you didn't want your Uncle to walk long distances?

Disney past decision is affecting events that are out of Disney control. Everytime the monorail is down, guest will think cutback and unrealiable transportation. Even when Disney has no control. The last thing guests remember is the last thing the do. The great time in the parks will be deminished by the lack of returning to their Destination.

Give the guest some credit. CM would be better off saying lightnining strike disrupted our monorail safety system.

Saying lightnining strike caused an power outage will not fly by many.

Safety is first.

Im not blamming disney, I had no clue until reading the fourms that there had been lightting that took out the monorail.

I had waited in the park hoping that i would be able to just hop on a ferry.

I have a feeling that most people wouldn't find a lightning induced power outage to be the fault of Disney. It was the easiest explanation that they could give yesterday and it worked. I was there experiencing it first hand yesterday and no one really seemed to get mad at the situation. Yes, the buses were annoying but people were handling it.

Hold on, hold on people. Before we get the pitchforks out....

Like I posted in this thread that you also commented on: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=789280

So before we all jump to conclusions about how Disney management needs to rethink the Monorail operating hours, let's get the facts straight. The beam was struck by lightning earlier in the day which blew out the anti-collision system. So unless you all would rather ride around in trains operating under MAPO Override (ie, no anti-collision system operating,) I really can't see how this is Disney's fault or the train's fault.

And while you may have made this thread before reading the other one, you still could have added a post/edit to this one stating that you now knew the reason why it was down.

I wouldn't normally question you, but I was told by the monorail manager(forget his name, he is tall and skinny like Tim) after the night was over that it was power at MK station that went out, not the MAPO system.

People need to get over themselves. Mother nature happens. Deal with it, we had to. I don't know how anyone coming out of MK, with monorail pilots standing all over, a huge crowd, and no one anywhere near a monorail station didn't stop to think "gee, maybe monorails are down, this is unusual"

Between watercraft and busses we moved 30k people(as of 10pm) out of the park in 2.5 hours. The ferryboat queue finally cleared about about 12:15 and full shut down came at 12:45.

Yeah I know which manager you are talking about. From what I understood it was originally MAPO that went out and then MK lost its power due to a issue with the console caused by the lightning. So it was a combo of both, but enough of the beam had power to at least park the trains.

aaahhhh ok well that makes sense then. I know in talking while eating a free mickey bar, it was explained that they were lucky in that most trains were at a station so very little cycling was needed to get guests off.

So tonight (August 20, 2011), i was leaving Magic Kingdom. Park closed at 11pm, i stayed inside the park until about 11:50pm hoping it would be quick to get onto a boat or something. To my suprise a LONG DANG LINE for the Ferry stretching to Baggage check and a 90minute Bus wait (to go to TTC), i was very mad and confused onto what i was going to do, so i decide to take a boat to poly and walk, i got on in about 15minutes, got there, and luckly a bus was waiting with nobody on it to go to TTC, so i get on (he warned me about the long drive but i didnt care, sparred me walking). so 15minutes later i get dropped off at TTC (1:00am) and i was dreading the long walk to goofy parking lot but to my suprise (and luck) they were running the trams (2hours after closing). I was soo happy to get to my car.

My point in all of this is It takes me 2hours just to get to my car now ??????
Common Disney, realize how we feel and replace the dang monorails so they can run full time...

This is the first time i am considering actually complainning to mangement about this....

Other than that, Fantastic day at Magic Kingdom and Enjoyed the Tiki-Room so much i saw it twice

That line for the Ferry was insane! We left the MK about 11:30 last night, and stood in line for the Ferry for a few minutes but ended up taking the Poly boat since the line was shorter. We didn't get to our car until 1am, but it surely would've taken longer if we had waited for the Ferry. The monorail CMs were saying lightning had struck the main transformer for the monorail at 3:30pm and it hadn't been working since.

You are correct, there are large portions of it without a sidewalk, although the portion under the water does have a walkway. For the rest of it, I just made sure I was far enough in the grass to be a very safe distance away from cars and buses, and I paid close attention to traffic. The two times I did it were due to extreme congestion combined with a need to be somewhere.

PS. I really enjoy reading your columns :)

I have also taken the long walk because there are some nights that I just cant handle the lines. The only scary part is walking in the tunnel (under the bridge). The rest is mostly grassy area that is fairly safe.

To be fair you, per your own story, only spent half that time actually trying to get to your car.

You can blame Disney that it took you 2 hours to get to your car when you spent half of that time hanging out in the the park.

EDIT: Also, is the boat ride from Magic Kingdom to the Polynesian really 40 minutes long? That doesn't seem right.

If the park is crowded (as I imagine it would be during a Saturday night in the summer) why would any one think it would be quick to get anywhere after the park closes? People don't just disappear.

Let's be fair, here. You stayed in the park until 11:50. That 50 minutes doesn't count towards the time it tok you to get to your car, which means, by your own admission, it actually took you 70 minutes.

Secondly, why on Earth would you take a BUS from the Poly to the TTC? It's much faster to walk.

I thought the same thing, but what do I know, I'm just a CM!

actually, at 12:15, there was no longer any line for the ferry so all things considered, it would have been equal, if not slightly shorter to wait had you stayed in line for the Ferry.
