21st Birthday / Marriage Proposal

I'm returning to Disney with my family from the UK in early May 2011 for our 6th vist in 10 years (we are really hooked by the Disney experience!). We have planned our visit to coincide with my daughters 21st birthday and we intend to be at Magic Kingdom on her special day.

In additon, we believe my daughters partner will propose to her either on her birthday or during our visit to Florida.

In view of the above, does anyone have any ideas:

1) What can we do at Magic Kingdom to make our daughters birthday extra special?
2) Can you book Cinderella's Castle for special events such as birthdays?
3) If my daughter is going to be proposed to would it be worth contacting Disney before our visit to see if they have any ideas how to make this is a special moment? (Has anyone ever been proposed to at Disney?)
3) Do Disney offer any special services / events? If so, any idea how much this costs?
4) Do any of the other Disney parks offer special experiences?

Any feedback would be appreciated as I would really like to make my daughters day as special as possible.

Many thanks

Hello!

Congrats on your daughters upcoming big events! How exciting.

Disney has so much to offer when it comes to magical experiences. And several people have had different experiences, plenty on this sight have asked or been asked and I am sure they could share their experiences, you may want to check out the honeymoon and wedding section here.

But here are some of my thoughts.

1. Make sure to get button for your daugher, CM will at times go out of their way. Likewise if the couple does get engaged they can get buttons. However I would wait to get them or even mention this until you are sure, or until after he has asked otherwise there is a potiental for them to have the buttons ready when checked in and may ruin the surprise.
2. If you want to do something special, www.disneyflorist.com has plenty of birthday and special celebration stuff that can be sent to the room to make your trip that much more magical.
3. Cinderilla's Royal table can be booked for meals, and they dif make it special I have celebrated both my birthday and an anniversary there and had a fabulous tme. If however your asking about staying in the suite itself its pretty impossible to stay there.
4. They do offer some cruises along the lakes for special occassions, I am not sure how much it is but I am sure you can contact Disney themselves for more.
5. California Grill is another great alternative for dinner, and offers a great view of the fireworks

Not sure what department you would go through, (may be Fairytale Weddings) but there are proposal packages. I know one is at the MK Rose garden and you get a glass slipper to put the ring in.

My DH suprised me on my 30th birthday with a wishes cruise on the Seven Seas Lagoon! We had a pantoon boat with a happy birthday banner and balloons, they play the sound track right on the boat, they had drinks and snacks. I think the boat holds 10-12 people. We were a party of 4. I want to do it again!

1) What can we do at Magic Kingdom to make our daughters birthday extra special? Maybe book a meal at Cinderella's Royal Table?
2) Can you book Cinderella's Castle for special events such as birthdays? Outside of Cinderella's Royal Table not really. If you have wads of cash to drop, they may rent you the suite for evening. Unless you want to go to Bibbity Bobbity Boutique which is technically in the castle. Some 21 yo's would think its hilarious, others would be appalled to go there.
3) If my daughter is going to be proposed to would it be worth contacting Disney before our visit to see if they have any ideas how to make this is a special moment? (Has anyone ever been proposed to at Disney?) It depends. As mentioned before, the DisneyFlorist is the place that most low cost things would come from. Glass slipper on a pillow, fancy centerpiece, stuff like that. The Wedding department may have some higher end packages they can assist with, but their services usually start at like 3-5 thousand dollars. Depending on how, when, and where the proposal is planned, you may be able to coordinate with a photopass photographer to take pictures of the moment. As a PP said, you can get "just engaged" buttons for free from the resort desks and park quest services, but I would ask for those seperate from anything else. There have been times were the surprise was ruined by a well meaning CM.
4) Do Disney offer any special services / events? If so, any idea how much this costs? If you have money, Disney can make almost anything legal happen. Check out the prices on the Disney Florist site to get an idea of the markup for anything Disney would provide. And the mouseweddings site previously linked to have a rough idea of prices for services through the wedding department.
5) Do any of the other Disney parks offer special experiences? They all offer some type of tour. Or you can book a private tour guide. As a PP mentioned, the fireworks cruises can be nice, but they book up very fast as there are only a few boats each evening.

On a personal note, I would let your daughters partner do the proposal planning. If you have a way to subtlety provide info, then go for it, but nothing could be worse than feeling like you are being pressured into proposing. If they ask you about it, for permission etc, then by all means discuss it. But unless they broach the subject first, I wouldn't put any pressure on them.

Speaking as someone who did the proposing, Disney will do their best to help you out, but you need to be flexible in your plans. Weather and the fact my wife wasn't in a great mood when I planned to propose meant I couldn't use my first choice (Cinderella's Wishing Well). But I ended up proposing by the fountain in France, which worked out well as there was a photopass photographer there so we have pictures of the whole thing. ; ) But it took several passes to get it all lined up. I did have another spot or two planned for the following days if that one fell through as well. Mind you, carrying the ring around for our whole trip without her finding out was not easy.

Best of luck on your plans!
