I may be way behind in my insider news, but does anyone know what's going to happen with the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea site now that its completely demolished??

I ask because I loved that ride, absolutely loved it, and I at least want something worthy going in there. It was almost comforting to see the lagoon still there, it was just pretty to look at. Now, its really gone :(

Again, sorry if this has already been talked about, I did a search and couldn't find anything. Thanks!!!

I was just on Screamscape.com and there are some new photos ( think that they are new at least) of what 20K looks like now. Just wanted to pass that information onto you!

The rumor is...

that there is no rumor. Short-term plans call for a landscaped area and character meet-and-greet. Long-term plans have been the topic of much speculation, all unsubstantiated, ranging from a resurrection of the "Fire Mountain" thrill ride to a Harry Potter, Roger Rabbit or Toy Story dark ride. The bottom line is that no one knows.

What is clear is that there is now some prime real estate available for the Magic Kingdom to add its first new "E-ticket" attraction since Splash Mountain.

HARRY POTTER?? Where?!

What Empress is saying is pretty m uch on track. Except I've been told that the new attraction down the road will include water and will have a height restriction.

What ever happened to the 20K lagoon being some kind of vital water source for the rest of the park? I thought our CM on the Keys To The Kingdom tour saying something to that effect.

Well I know that there is a major water source attatched behind Splash Mountain that suplies water to at least Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean.

1 more since the one that was in the 20k queue had to close to get rid of the lagoon :p. Then again we didn't need that one in the first place.

I'm still betting on Bald Mountain.

With the water/height restriction rumor, it would make the most since, I feel. It would be a great weiner to pull people past the castle (like the Matterhorn at Disneyland), and also fits in well with the Fantasyland theme.

I WANT CHERNABOG!!!

Fire Mountain is still be heavily considered but only in Adventureland with the main ride section being placed on the otherside of the railroad tracks. Villain Mountain was originally proposed for the 20K site.

I'm hoping for bald mountain! Sounds like a cool ride.

Just, please, not a permanent meet and greet or a Harry Potter ride. We don't need either of those.

I swear with those stupid meet n greets. Ugh I can not stand them. There is no purpose to have 100 in each park. People want the rides. I do not want to waste my money on admission to have a whole park full of meet n greets and no new rides! Sorry I just urks me so bad. I think a dark ride is a good idea to put there in the theme of one of the movies. I really think a monsters inc or mary poppins dark ride would be awesome. But hey thats just me.....I seriously think that people that are high up at disney should really look at this site bc we have ALOT of things to say and ALOT of ideas that they can feed from. We don't want cheap quickie parks we want good authentic parks! please listen to us!

I don't think anyone is suggesting that the "meet and greet" would be permanent...not at all. It is, rather, a temporary "attraction" while the parcel is being redeveloped and rethemed. It certainly beats the alternative - watching the once-proud 20,000 Leagues site unused and decaying. Now that the demolition is ongoing, the smart money says that imagineering plans have been completed or are being completed for redevelopment of the area on a long-term basis. Disney would not have spent the money to tear it down if it hadn't have decided what was going in there, IMHO.

You are rite...they def wouldn't spend all that money to ripe it down. I was just ranting bc I'm so sick of meet n greets! I'm sorry

i heard that the 20k sight went under cause its water was connected with iasw. So maybe there was nuthin really going to happen to the site when it was torn down. I think that a ride would probably be started in 2007 but im just thinking that in the mean time we will probably have to settle with another meet and greet o boy!!!

That the lagoon will be used for a meet and greet is actually good news. It means the cost of demolition for the area will be charged against this fiscal year. If they hold off on major landscaping until October, that work will count against the next fiscal year.

Why is this good? Imagine that you only have X10 amount of money to spend each year on a new attraction. If it costs X2 to prep the land and X3 for horizontal work (power/sewer/foundation/paving) that only leaves you X5 for vertical building (the attraction itself). But if you paid for your land prep a few years prior, well now you have X3 for horizontal and X7 for vertical. Spread that out over several fiscal years (like the new Expedition Everest coaster at Animal Kingdom) and the final attraction can be bigger than X10.

That Disney is already starting this process, by working on the lagoon with available funds long before horizontal construction might begin, means that Disney is taking the burden of the cost of that work away from the eventual attraction(s) that will fill that space.

So, to cary this analogy way past the breaking point, this construction means Disney is thinking at least an X7 attraction. Do that for two fiscal years, and you've got an X14 where only an X5 would have been if Disney's only goal is to get something open as quickly as they can.

(And extra credit to anyone who can tell me what tense that last sentence is in. No prizes, as I can't figure it out myself.)
