I am SO happy to see this picture. When they put the sub in the Pooh tree I was thrilled. Any time they pay homage to what once lived where a new attraction is built I think it's wonderful. This just made my day!

This line from the blog cracks me up too...
Examining the surrounding rocks up close, it looks like the wooden ship wasn’t the only watercraft to meet its end in this area.

As I had hoped/expected the queue looks 100% better than what exists in DCA.
If only the ride could be 100% better. It looks like we will have a superb queue line for a so-so attraction--which I fear will mean this gorgeous queue line will seldom be appreciated. Of course, given how much they are touting this attraction and the fact that it (unnecessarily) has Fastpass, the waits should be artificially long for a while. I'm still hoping for some good updates to this ride over DCA's but most reports suggest any updates will be pretty minor.

The queue is gorgeous however.

This ride in Florida for Bippity Boppity I'm Spoiled little girls might be what Peter Pan is to boys. Call me out in left field on this but I really think this is going to have a decent line for a while with the princess aspect of it.

It's always great to see WDW embracing its history. Far to often it seems that older attractions are unceremoniously retired with a whimper and all acknowledgement that they ever existed scrubbed away to make room for "progress". I'm not opposed to progress by any means but what management sometimes loses site of is that ride was someones favorite, someone made lifelong memories right there, so to see it brushed under the rug can sting. The little nods to Florida's unique and independent Disney history go a very long way with fans.

I agree--it'll have long lines for awhile (when it is the only new thing at WDW). But it won't always be the newest thing at WDW and I think it will end up overshadowed with short lines after a few years. It's no Haunted Mansion but it does have a similar hourly capacity, so once it is no longer new, I would expect shorter lines than the HM has--10-15 minutes at most for much of the year.

The Mine Ride, on the other hand, has a novelty (it's arguably a unique coaster that is also kid friendly) that should maintain popularity long-term.

I love to see Disney tip their hat to former attractions! It is especially appropriate given Mermaid now resides within a couple repurposed walls of the former show building of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Thumbs up Disney!

The queue will help the ride as in DCA you don't really feel your going into Ariel's world until a little bit into the ride.

Having said that, DCA's LM is pretty lackluster, nothing on the scale of Pirates, yet also lacking the "warmth" I guess you would call it of Peter Pan, its more of a musical review with audioanimatronics and scenes from the film. With Peter Pan you sorta feel like you are traveling to Neverland, with Little Mermaid its more like scenes are presented for your viewing.

The good news is that LM could become a great ride. The animatronic Ariels are great, but their so close to the clam shell that you notice all the seams and plasticky nature of them, the auctioneer in Pirates isn't up close to the boats, and I think Ariel would look more real if there was more space between her and the guests. Ursula is a technological advance, but you're so close to her, you don't get the feel of being in her underground lair and you notice how she is artificial.

Plus, at DCA anyway, a lot of the fish are just plastic things glued onto the walls, I don't see why they couldn't give them a little movement. Plus DCA's LM final couple scenes are an embarrassment in DCA. The good news part is that MK could fix these things with larger sets and expanded scenes, and removing the phony paper cut out Ursula.

I kinda think they will make these changes, why not? MK is competing with Potterland, DCA was just trying to cram a ride, any ride, into a small little space. I know people say LM's show building is the same size as the one in DCA, but given that they kept a wall from 20,000's showbuilding, it is not new construction, just a retrofit so adding show-space wouldn't be that big of a deal, especially if they removed the extra space for castmembers in back.

It's on the same land yes but the former show building was demolished back around 2003. It was there for awhile but alas it was torn down around the time Pooh's Playful Spot came into being.

From what I understand, when the 20,000 Leagues show building was demolished, the back and right hand walls of the show building were not destroyed, allowing them to be re-used in the construction of the new Little Mermaid attraction.

I had actually mistyped and edited my post right when you typing yours (so what you quoted changed) but here's a shot from 2003:

And you're right, the "walls" were left there but the building itself is gone. :)

The line for Mermaid at DCA is routinely walk on. Yes, the animatronics are great but for some reason, this was a one and done for me. Hopefully the lines are long so it takes people away from other good stuff in the park. :)
