2023 Points Charts released

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.
I can’t believe they are going to charge more for Theme Park View for the new GF DVC rooms. It’s a lake view and a CR view but it’s pretty damn dishonest to call it a Theme Park View. You have to get close and look left and squint.

started looking into the points charts and thought I'd share what I've found; this is just one perspective so best to do your own analysis as well (like looking at your specific travel times)

the structure of the chart avoids issues with easter and US thanksgiving because ...
  1. season f is the bunny wrapper around easter, all dates before and after easter are in a consistent season (an upgrade from 2022 point chart)
  2. season e is the turkey wrapper around US thanksgiving, all dates before and after US thanksgiving are in a consistent season (it's been like this in all previous point charts)
... so I didn't see any strange long term trends when flowing the point charts out in time; the only effects going forward are leap years and minor variations depending on 1 Jan's day of the week

for VGF2, I'm assuming (right or wrong) ...
  • +28 dst (theme park)
  • +90 dsp (lake)
  • +84 dss (garden)
if I'm off on my assumptions or you want to try your own numbers, for every dsp you move to dss ...
  1. subtract 1,519 from 2023 chart to 2023
  2. subtract 1,513 from 2023 chart to base year

1: for VGF2 I'm assuming +84 dss, +90 dsp (lake), +28 dst (theme park)

PVB is the largest gap but it's still round off; it's also orders of magnitude smaller than what it could have been with the original 2022 point charts

the AKV chart also looks fine but I don't have good numbers for the room views; I know there are several out there (@Micah008's being my favourite) but none of them calculate correctly to declared points unfortunately; I ran a simulation to see what room counts would have to be make the maths work but they were different by ~30 2b

AKV is consistent year-on-year from what I can tell though so I wouldn't worry about it

The best way to not get angry about “views” is to never fall for it.

it’s DVC…you’re not looking out of the window for any meaningful period
I spend quite a while of each day out on a balcony. In the mornings with a cup of tea waiting for others to wake up. Maybe mid day or afternoon with a book. And again in the evenings with a drink.
So at some resorts I might be influenced by a particular view.

That’s understandable…but In your case the courtyards/pools can be good eye candy too.

my general point is for adults, outrage over views seems rather silly…opinions vary.

If you want it…then the point surcharge seems appropriate for the return

In my case ??? Eye candy??? What does that mean? You seem very keen to impose your style on others:

etc.

I’d rather look over Bay Lake, the AKL Savannahs, Crescent Lake, Seven Seas Lagoon rather than watch people in the pool. Yo know, actual views with sunrise or sunsets. So please stop assuming what I would like to see from my balcony.

in my next life…I’m gonna make a point to take easy offense…at everything. It just make for interesting days.

scenery…sorry…scenery. I meant actual scenery…not in the Austin powers sense.

the DAKL lodge I’ll give you…but I find many of the pool/courtyard/garden views to be me more relaxing than…say…the Tomorrowland service area in magic kingdom.

opinions vary. (Yes…they do)

I agree, opinions vary. Mine clearly differ from yours. Although we can agree over the Tomorrowland service area - you apparently failed to note that I much prefer Lake View from BLT than Theme Park View.

I just don't see the outrage over views which you seem to have seen in this thread.

Not always. Case in point BCV

I actually really do care about views. It's why BCV has dropped on my list really.

Beach club?? There’s not really much of a view there anyway, is there? It’s blocked by the old hotel
My point exactly. Views suck and they are courtyard or pool. Balconies are small. We now stay elsewhere. Conversely I added points as PVB to allow for lagoon views. Our June VGF trip is lagoon view. Priorities vary.

Too bad…beach club is the best there is…honorable mention to DAKL

opinions vary 😉

Having stayed at both BCV and BWV, we much prefer BWV. If available, we do choose a Boardwalk view, but are happy with a Garden View as well. We also don’t care for Stormalong Bay. Just isn’t our cup of tea.
Stormalong was a good idea…in theory…

but the choices on layout and elements have always been curious.

but that was a much different, more creative time for Disney…

now it’s slab pool and off the shelf corkscrew slide…

and call it “copper creek” or some other nonsense.

It's savanna view or bust for me at DAKL. Anywhere else I could care less, although, I do use Touring Plans to try and avoid less than optimal views e.g. Parking lots. I can understand why folks would want a nicer view, but I simply have an aversion to spending more for a theme park, lake view or preferred view.

What I am excited about is that the summer months continue to see a drop in points. My family's devotion to summer travel (Read: Only time we can go) continues to be rewarded! Maybe now the unbearable heat, and drenching humidity will be just a tad less miserable.

I probably prefer boardwalk now as well…tastes change over time

I like all the “old” places considering what they’ve “built” recently
Just stayed in a refurbed room in both PVB and SSR. Honestly both were great. I'm okay with RR as well but kind of like BLT felt it was a bit blah on the grounds. Just glad Reflections was shelved though they need to reopen the path.
