No
My family finally gets to see A Quiet Place II and hopefully we will see my sister and/or her car in it.
Be on the lookout during the bridge scene (they show part of the bridge in the commercial but her car is not shown in that section) for a blue Pontiac G6. :)

It was a solid weekend at the box office with some decent numbers. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It opened at #1 with an impressive $24 million total. It is the 2nd lowest opening in the series, but it isn't too far off from The Curse of La Llorona's opening total of $26.5 million which was in a non-pandemic situation and not simultaneously streaming on HBO Max for no extra cost. A Quiet Place Part II fell 59% with a 2nd weekend total of $19.5 million. Cruella only fell 48% in its second weekend with a total of $11.2 million. This is very good considering that Cruella is available on Disney+ for an extra cost. Plus, the announcement of a sequel may have helped it hold steady throughout the weekend. The worldwide total for Cruella is now up to $87.1 million with still many territories having yet to see the film, including China where it opened today. Spirit Untamed had a somewhat decent $6.2 million opening weekend which isn't bad for an animated film this year, but there have certainly been better openings. Raya and the Last Dragon rounded out the top 5 only falling 44% with a weekend total of $1.3 million in its 14th weekend. This is a good number considering it is now free on Disney+ and was facing another animated movie this week. As for next weekend, In the Heights and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway will both open to the public.

1.) Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (New Line) 3,102 theaters, Fri $9.8M/Sat $8.6M/Sun $5.6M/3-day: $24M/Wk 1

2.) A Quiet Place Part II (Par) 3,744 theaters (+18) Fri $6.2M/Sat $7.7M/Sun $5.6M $19.5M (-59%)/Total: $88.6M/Wk 2

It was an underwhelming weekend at the box office with In the Heights underperforming. However, A Quiet Place Part 2 was able to cross the $100 million mark, but by doing this it took the top spot from In the Heights by $200k. With A Quiet Place Part 2 earning $11.6 million this weekend, it’s domestic total is $108.9 million. The #2 spot went to In the Heights which only made $11.4 million in its opening weekend. This comes after Warner Brothers released the movie a day early on HBOMax which may have caused it to not reach the $20 million projection given by the trades. This brings up a good concern with the rest of Warner Brothers 2021 slate. Could this simultaneous release in theaters and on HBOMax hurt the box office total of huge movies like The Suicide Squad, Dune, and The Matrix 4? The #3 spot went to Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway with an opening weekend total of $10.4 million. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It fell 58%, which is normal for a horror movie, to the #4 spot with $43.8 million. Cruella rounded out the top 5 as it held a strong 39% fall in its 3rd weekend with a total of $6.7 million. The movie has now grossed $56 million domestically and $127 million worldwide. While unlikely, Cruella could cross $100 million domestically if it keeps these small drops. As for Raya and the Last Dragon, it has fell out of the top 10 to #11 with an 86% drop from last weekend as it finishes its run at theaters. The movie made $186k this weekend with 559 theaters. As for next weekend, Pixar’s Luca hits Disney+ and theaters where Disney+ isn’t available while The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard opens this Wednesday.

1.) A Quiet Place Part II (Par) 3,515 theaters (-229) Fri $3.8M/Sat $4.6M/Sun $3.25M, 3-day $11.65M (-40%)/Total: $108.9M/Wk 3

It was a wild weekend at the box office. There were some impressive, strong holds and there were some big falls. Lets start with the #1 spot which went to The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard with a 5-day opening total of $17 million with $11.6 million of that total being its opening weekend. A Quiet Place Part 2 continues to reign strong as it only fell 22% in its 4th weekend. The thriller gathered $9.4 million this weekend bringing the grand domestic total to an amazing $125.2 million. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway took spot #3 falling a strong 40% in its second weekend with a $6.1 million weekend total. This hold is good, not as good as the first movie’s 30% fall, but better than a lot of movies out recently. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It took spot #4 falling 50% with a weekend total of $5.1 million. Cruella rounded out the top 5 with an amazing hold of 24% bringing in $5.1 million. Cruella was $500k shy of taking the 4th place spot from The Conjuring 3. Cruella now has a domestic total of $64.7 million as it slowly reaches closer to the $100 million mark.

As for the rest of the box office, it was mix of good and bad news. In the Heights suffered a saddening drop of 63% in just its second weekend. In the Heights brought in $4.2 million this weekend which made its domestic total rise to $19.6 million. As for the good news, Godzilla Vs. Kong becomes the second movie to reach $100 million during the pandemic era with F9 and Black Widow being projected to be the next two movies to be added to this list. Lets end this week’s report with a Raya and the Last Dragon update. This animated movie brought in $88k in 253 theaters this weekend as it gets closer to finishing its run. As for next week, the highly anticipated F9 opens this Friday and is, most likely, guaranteed to have a very impressive opening.

It was an amazing weekend at the box office with so much to talk about! Let's start with the big topic this week: F9 made an estimated $70 million in its opening weekend. This makes it the best opening weekend since the pandemic started. Deadline pointed out that F9's opening has done better than non-pandemic movie openings such as Bad Boys for Life ($62.5 million) and Hobbs & Shaw ($60 million). F9 has a global total of about $405 million with it expecting to hit $100 million domestically very soon. A Quiet Place Part 2 took the 2nd spot this week only falling 32% with a weekend total of $6.2 million. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard took the 3rd place spot falling 57% in its second weekend which was about 5% more than the first's 52% drop. Its $4.8 million weekend total brought the movie up to $25.8 million domestically. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway continues its run in the top 5 as it took the #4 spot with a weekend total of $4.85 million which equals a stellar 20% drop. Cruella rounds out the top 5 with a weekend total of $3.72 million which equals an amazing drop of 26% in its 5th weekend. Cruella has earned a domestic total of $71.3 million and an international total of $112.5 million bringing the grand total to $183.8 million so far.

As for the other 2 Disney movies in the market, Raya and the Last Dragon continues to squeeze out the little cash it can before ending its run. Despite being free on Disney+ for 3 weeks now, the 59th Disney animated movie gathered $48k with 120 theaters. As for Luca, it brought in an estimated $4.5M in its second weekend for a total of $11.6M. Luca is open in 12 countries only.

As for this Friday, Universal goes head to head with...itself. That's right, Universal is releasing The Boss Baby: Family Business (which also going to be available on Peacock) and The Forever Purge as some type of counterprogramming I am guessing lol

Here is the chart for this week's box office:

It was another amazing weekend at the box office with a new milestone being reached this week. This weekend is the first time all of the top ten movies made weekend totals in the millions since the pandemic started back in March 2020. It was also a great weekend for Universal as they occupied the top 3. F9 took the top spot in its second weekend bringing in $24 million. While it held onto the top spot, it fell a substantial 66%. Yes, blockbusters usually fall in between 50%-60% in their 2nd weekend, but this is on the high side. Boss Baby: Family Business opened at #2 with a weekend total of $17.3 million. The Forever Purge rounded out the top 3 with a $12.7 million opening. A Quiet Place Part 2 fell 32% in its 6th weekend gathering $4.2 million as it holds on to the title of the best domestic haul this year. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard rounded out the top with a weekend total of $3 million.

As for Disney’s 3 movies, Cruella has slipped out of the top 5 to #6 where it made an estimated $2.5 million this weekend. This brings its domestic total to $77.2 million. Cruella has also passed the $200 million mark with a global total of $204.4 million. Raya and the Last Dragon made another $32k as it plays in only 75 theaters. Luca is also still playing in theaters and gathered $6.4 million. Speaking of Disney, the movie everyone has been waiting for opens this week! Black Widow is currently projected to earn somewhere from $80-$110 million in its opening weekend.

1. F9 (Uni) 4,203 theaters (+24), Fri $8.26M/Sat $9.26M/Sun $6.48M/Mon $8.75M/3-day $24M (-66%)/4-day: $32.75M/Total: $125.9M/ Wk 2

WOW! What a weekend at the box office! Black Widow did really well and even beat out some other MCU films in their opening week totals. Although would the number be bigger if Premier Access wasn't available? I guess only the TVA knows that ;)

Black Widow took #1 with ease and was able to gather $80 million in its opening weekend. It is the best opening weekend for a movie released in the pandemic era. It seems that not everyone went to the theater with Black Widow gathering more than $60 million from Premier Access sales alone! It makes you think that maybe offering more blockbuster titles with Premier Access could be a good idea as Disney earns all that money back and not just get 50%-60% back. While this movie could have legs, we would have to wait till the 2nd-weekend drop to estimate a more clear domestic total. Universal movies filled up spots 2-4 with some decent and not-so-decent holds. F9 took spot #2 with a weekend total of $10.8 million with a not-so-decent 3rd-weekend drop. The Boss Baby: Family Business took #3 with a weekend total of $8.7 million. It seems that the sequel is repeating itself as both the first and second installment has a second-weekend drop of 47%. The Forever Purge had a great 2nd weekend as well as it earned $6.7 million in its second weekend. While that may not seem a lot, horror movies usually fall in the high 50's low 60's while this installment only fell 47%! A Quiet Place Part 2 rounded out the top 5 with a $3 million weekend total.

As for the 3 other Disney-distributed movies in the market, they still continue to rack up some cash. Cruella was at #6 this week with a $2.2 million weekend total. Cruella now sits at $80.7 million domestically just beating out Black Widow on this weekend's domestic chart. Although it will probably be dethroned tomorrow. Raya and the Last Dragon continues to make as much money as it can with a $22k total in its 19th weekend. Raya and the Last Dragon is only playing in 55 theaters. Luca added an additional $3.4 million to its international gross bring its total to $21 million.

I'm willing to think that Disney releasing its Premium Access numbers is as much for the theaters to know as for the general public. It tells theaters: "See! we all did well from this model!!"

Yeah, probably some of that. However, it's also to give those who truly don't have the opportunity to get out of the house the chance to see movies quickly in their own home without waiting 3 months. There's no telling how many people who bought it on PA would actually have gone to the theater. Some people with small children, medical conditions, etc. can share the excitement of some big new blockbusters at home. For one person it is expensive. But for a family or group, not so much at all (plus for the price of a family or group going out, paying for tickets, getting food, etc., you can watch it as much as you want.)

This weekend at the box office was full of good and bad news. Space Jam: A New Legacy took the top spot with a great opening weekend of $31.6 million. The film's opening is the best for a PG film during the pandemic. Black Widow took spot #2 with a harsh fall of 67% which equals to a $26.2 million 2nd weekend total. The movie was able to take the #1 spot somewhere as it was the most pirated movie this past week. Black Widow currently sits at $132 million domestically and $264 million globally. Escape Room: Tournament of Champions had a somewhat decent $8.8 million opening weekend. F9 took spot #4 with a weekend total of $7.6 million falling a better 33%. Boss Baby: Family Business took spot #5 with a rough fall of 47% putting it way behind the first film's success. The film is also available on Peacock.

Let's take a look at Disney's 3 other movies. Cruella had a harsh fall of 54% to #9 in its 8th weekend with a weekend total of $1.1 million. Cruella currently sits at $83.4 million domestically and $222.4 million. Raya and the Last Dragon made $18k in its 20th weekend with it playing in only 41 theaters. Luca earned another $1.3 million which makes its international cume to $22.3 million.

Snake Eyes and Old will be released wide this Friday.

Wow that's a MASSIVE drop for Black Widow! I guess, despite the strong opening weekend, COVID and Disney Plus quickly caught up to it. It's going to now be tough for it to crack $200 million domestically and $500 million world wide.

Also of note -

"A correction to my analysis from last weekend: Disney doesn’t get 100% of their Disney+ Premier revenue many studio financial sources have informed me. On a PVOD release, they have to share ~15% of the revenues with platform providers such as Amazon Firestick, AppleTV+, etc. So that $60M global PVOD hooray last weekend is really around an estimated net $51M back to Disney. While it’s not as steep as the 40% they have to hand over to exhibition, once again, Disney is burning through an ancillary window faster and bound to walk away with less money in the end than they typically would on a regular theatrical release."

Have a funny feeling the major issue was the fact it was the #1 most pirated movie probably killed a lot of its box office potential
