Wouldn't be surprised to see the 5# team go away and HMS go down to three cars. Another question for HMS, are they going to keep the number 88 or go back to the classic HMS #25 when Dale Jr. retires?
I have no idea with the 88 number.

I am not too sure the 5 car going away. I am guessing Hendrick might be rushing William Byron up into cup since Jimmie is signed through 2020. I don't see Hendrick waiting that long for Byron getting a Hendrick cup ride considering William has a Liberty University Sponsorship that he used in the trucks and has been using in the Xfinity series this year. Byron is still enrolled as an online student at Liberty University for getting a business degree and he will be a sophomore before the Xfinity series ends its season in November.

Good point about Byron bringing his own sponsorship. Does Bowman get Dale Jr's seat?

I like to say he would, but I am not sure at this point.

What gets me is Bowman is already with Hendrick as an employee, but I would think an announcement would've been made by now. The sponsors have a say in the driver, and they may not be sold on Alex despite them working knowing him last year. I actually don't know the hold up of who will getting Dale Jr.'s seat.

If it is not Bowman, I'm guessing Matt Kenseth at this point. Matt's contract is up this year and there was rumors before this season that Erik Jones would only be in the 77 car for this year.

Keselowski was originally with HMS before getting a full time ride with Penske...

There is some tv news in NASCAR. It is very likely that there is going to be a change in the Broadcasting booth for NASCAR races.

I've read the Dale Jr. is in talks with Fox and NBC for an analyst role. If Fox gets Dale Jr., my thinking is he's going to replace Darrell Waltrip. Darrell is 70 year old and is going to be 71 next year. If Dale Jr. is hired by NBC, I'm guessing he's replacing Burton or Steve Letarte.

Out of those 2 networks, I personally want Dale Jr. to go to Fox. I've heard Dale Jr. announcing last year in a Xfinity race for Fox, and I thought he did well. The truth is Darrell Waltrip isn't getting younger and I rather see him replace Darrell than Michael Waltrip.

I heard Michael Waltrip in the booth many time and he is terrible as an analyst for Truck races. Besides him being a bad analyst he is known as Nascar stooge in the booth that thinks every rule change is great.

Michael Waltrip is the person who actually thought the Truck Series having a caution clock is a great idea. Michael a few years in the booth even wanted the cup series to have the rule of putting tires on one lap and put has in the following lap like the truck series did:jawdrop::facepalm:.

personaly i'd like to see hendrick give Bowman the 88 for 2018 even if only to see how it goes,if he stuggles maybe then put Byron in for 2019?if not and kasey is still stuggling then possibly in the 5. I personally think it better to give Byron a couple years in xfinity.Unfortunatly all moves will depend upon sponsorship dollars, the longer they leave an announcement the more I fear for Bowmans chances. Other possible available seats not previously mentioned could be Almirola's,Menard's? jones if he goes to the 20? silly season is full swing at the moment;)

Rumors that Menard goes to the Wood Brothers when Blaney becomes the third Penske driver

Is it just me or is Kyle Busch having his worst Cup series season(to date)? (my answer: Yes), what happened to him :(
because he was snubbed at Phoenix(cause: Caution/Overtime, thanks a lot Logano:mad:), Martinsville(cause: Brad passed him..........), Richmond(cause: late race penalty, Logano.......), Talladega(cause: last lap pass), Coke 600(cause: couldn't catch Austin Dillon, :mad:fuel mileage), and Pocono(cause: pit problems)
Won 4 stages(all in the first stage), 2 poles(Dover and Pocono), All Star Race Win, and 2 DNFs, also lost his crew chief(stupid Nascar and its shameful fines/suspensions, missed the race in my home state, he better NOT miss the July race, and was replaced by Ben Beshore)for 4 events(thanks to a stupid lug nut penalty from Sonoma, it might be more than 4), and i swear if he misses the playoffs(formerly the Chase)and his three other JGR teammates make it, I'll be like this emoji-:arghh:

I don't think Kyle has his worst season to date. I have to go back to Kyle's Rookie season in 2005. While Kyle won 2 times in his rookie season, He only had 9 top 5's, 13 top 10's, and 362 laps led. Kyle is only 3 top 5's and 4 top 10's away from tying his top 5's and top 10's.

I agree that NASCAR's current Lugnut rule is stupid. It would my one of my first changes if I were CEO of NASAR. My problem with the rule is NASCAR is acting extreme with Lugnuts because NASCAR is assume the tire changer isn't tightening the lugnuts on purpose. What needs to be done is force the driver to go down pit road if not all the lugnuts are tight, but don't suspend the crew cheif.

The start of the 2016 season, NASCAR decided to get a rid of the old lugnut rule and do nothing if not all the lugnuts are on the tire. Before then, NASCAR looked for missing lugnuts for each pitstop and never fined or suspend a crew chief for that.

There is no proof that the tire change missed lugnuts on purpose due to what happened to Kevin Harvick last year and the speeds of the teams doing a pitstop aren't as fast as the early part of 2016. Kevin Harvick's pit crew crew last year was known for being slow and mistake prone.

Matt early today said it very likely that he wouldn't be back in the 20 car next year. He wasn't offered a contract by JGR yet. Erik Jones would be going from the 77 car to Matt's car.

Right now, Matt's options to me seems like HMS for the 88 car, the 77 car that currently has Erik Jones, Stewart-Haas, or just retire.
