Well first off it's not a rock, it's a nicely appointed cave.

Second, yeah Disney bought Marvel and Star Wars a few years back, doesn't mean they've done anything for Disney. Calling them "Disney Legends" is disingenuous.

Once a company buys another company all of that history becomes part of Disney's history. Like family trees merging as marriages occur.

I mean. Basic birds and bees of corporate mergers.

Star Wars has been in the parks for 30 years. ABC signed Oprah from her local Chicago talk show. However, when I think of Disney Legends I don't think Oprah.

I have a nice man cave as well, Let's be friends and agree that the Legends awards have become more about celebrity as opposed to being about a person's accomplishments:).

Yeah but that would be like the WWE putting Sting in their hall of fa- Oh wait...

Yeah, Oprah makes sense to me now at least. The others do seem like celebrity recognition.

Plus it's funny that they're inducting the Joker into a Disney/Marvel thing.

Major like for the WWE Reference but they have Inducted some wrestlers who never worked for WWE before. It tries to cover all of wrestling history.

ABC used to air Young Indy TV show back in the 90s and guess who was involved in ABC back then......Bob Iger. That's where his relationship with Lucas started all those years. So when Disney wanted to buy Lucasfilm, Lucas had a familiarity with Iger, which made the sale all the more easy.

I've also read that Iger was one of the reasons the show even lasted 3 seasons.

I recall Lucas said that one reason why he sold his company to Disney was because he wanted the property to live forever and because he wanted it to be part of Parks and all other mediums which is only possible with a home like Disney. He even stated that Binks was inspired by Goofy.

so all these people like Lucas, Stan Lee, Mark Hamill etc. These are all people that have been inspired by Walt Disney and Disney itself. So they are just as much a part of the Disney family now. As someone said above, when you buy something you take that history and it's part of your own now. And Disney have released almost 20 Marvel movies and tons of live action tv shows/animated shows, merchandising etc. One can't say they haven't done anything for Disney. Same goes for SW.

This gives me hope for a true Indy attraction and not a worn out stunt show. Good news is I'm hearing that the stunt show is likely going away. But for what I don't know. Clearly Iger understands the value in Indy. I hope he puts the IP to good use.

Iger is a big fan of Indiana Jones. He's one of the people who made a deal with Paramount Pictures to get the rights back. And then stated later on that he wants the series to be used in various Disney branches/divisions. For now the 5th movie is the 1st thing to come out and more will most likely come. I recall it was hinted by Kiri Hart (Lucafilm story group) that there might be an expanded Indy universe. That does sound to me like Indy Theme park could happen in the long run. And DHS seems to be a good place for it.

there might be an expanded Indy universe.

It's happening already. Indy + S.E.A. has already been realized in Jock Lindsey's bar in DS. And S.E.A. is being developed (Skipper's Canteen, Miss Adventure Falls) and promised to be further developed in Epcot according to insiders. S.E.A. already connects in Jungle Cruise and BTM and DisneySea and Mystic Manor. And Indy's world going to be developed massively in movies and parks.

In the end, there will be one interconnected universe of 'adventure.'

I feel that when people hear the term Disney Legends, they believe that it relates to Walt Disney Animation or the parks.

So people like Tony Baxter and Marc Davis would obviously be people that you'd expect. But Disney is also using the term Disney Legend for all of their acquired companies. Instead of having 'Lucasfilms Legends' or 'Disney-ABC Television Group Legends' they simply have a broad encompassing term for every part of their full company as 'Disney Legends' as they are all part of Disney.

Love or hate them, Oprah has had such a tremendous influence on the world, and the improv and tremendous acting of Johnny Depp helped create one of the most iconic characters to ever hit the silver screen.

Just like any award you may not personally agree with it, but it should be said that it makes sense to also have directors of musicals, composers like Alan Menken, and administrators receiving the award, and not only the old school legends based on only the divisions Walt Disney saw.

It may be political, it may be for profit, but it makes sense why they are doing that. It's no different than time magazine saying Trump is the person of the year. He easily won that even if you are like me who doesn't really like him etc.
And for the Disney legends, there is a reason George Lucas and Stan Lee are apart of that elite group. Lucas has partnered with Disney for decades and allowed Disney to buy Lucasfilms as he knew they would take care of it compared to a company like Paramount. It would also remain permanent due to new lands coming to the theme parks. Of course not all of them are equal, the creators instead of the actors are obviously a big deal, but the actors are.

For instance, I think it is for profit that Harrison Ford is not being inducted this year. Having it in 2019 would be good for keeping the Indiana Jones relevant and being talked about. But it is a corporate awards for one of the most influential companies of all time. It's still a big deal to be apart of it, but it includes individuals of so many different fields that it is more about a person's influence in their field.

Anyway, I think that it's a bit goofy to continuously debate over this as the bottom line is these are NOT your picks. Thanks for reading my post .
Just my two cents.:p

The IGN reporter is pretty good. So much better that park bloggers who keep missing the big picture.

Ya, I really like Terri. The lot of them are clearly fans who at least have a pulse of the rumour mill, which is funny in a sense for a video game website with the movie/tv crew doing D23 duty. I applauded when she dropped "Battle Escape". It probably helps that they are both informed and used to the circuit to not get so overwhelmingly star struck.

Eric also does a reasonably good job, but is a real Disney Parks fanboi.

While I was waiting in a 20 minute line Friday afternoon to get into the WDI Pavilion at D23, this weird little parade thing came rolling by. Mark Hammill and Stan Lee were the parade grand marshals, but I was totally geeking out on the fact they were being driven around in Walt's original electric touring cars that he used to drive around Disneyland and escort VIP's in. Too cool!

The parade was random and weird, but here's what happened.
