Just got back from our vacation in WDW and was very disappointed with the Christmas ornaments. I always buy a dated WDW ornament but the only ones available this year were related to the sorcerer hat/Mickey. Anyone know why they don't have the more typical glass ball type ornament?

I was disappointed by this, too. We opted to get one of the personalized ones.

The answer to your question has to be profits. They aren't going to supply an item that doesn't have a high demand. Disney is a business, and they are trying to make money. This is the only logical reason I can think of.

Cause Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom and Sorcerer Mickey is all the rage now?? Trying to push that theme? We always get requests for bringing back dated ornaments for our friends. I already got one friend who when he found out we were going asked me to pick up three of them for him, one for him and two he gifts to others, Guess I'll have to disappoint him when I go in Sept.

I have noticed a decrease in the quality of the ornaments in the last few years. I don't like any of the styles at all. We collected all the Mickey n Minnie tree farm ones.

Due to Christmas ornaments being seasonal, I would go in Fall/Winter and the range should have expanded as demand will be much higher than in Summer.

Just was wondering where you looked? The Christmas store in DTD has a plethora of ornaments. A lot are dated. There are plenty that are not dates and you can have them personalized. I forget which one we bought in January when we were there but it was a ball and we did have it dated.

When I was there the second week of June, there were no dated ball ornaments at the DTD Christmas store. We found a personalized one, though, and got that.

I hit up all the Christmas shops at the parks and dtd. Each store had the exact same option. I'm also not convinced about the seasonal thing because a majority of people are only at wdw once during the year for vacation. You would think that a dated ornament to remember your trip would be in demand year round.

This is something I have posted on before in related topics, but my feeling is that Disney has cut back on ALL merchandise in all the stores. I used to buy different coffee mugs every year but the past 4 years there have been no new offerings. I used to but a Winnie the Pooh watch - again nothing in 5+ years. A friend collects Disney snow globes. The store in DTD used to have at least 10 large globes and a number of smaller globes. Last time I looked I saw only small ones. The list goes on and on... It was like another poster said a business decision. I don't know how the numbers overall look, but I have not bought souvenirs my last three visits. There is just nothing interesting anymore.

I had the same issue when we were there a few weeks ago. The only dated ornament that I saw that I liked was the one I got last time and I wanted something different for this trip. I ended up choosing an ornament that I liked (not a glass ball type, though) and just had the date added.

I noticed the same thing a couple weeks ago in Disneyland. All the dated ornaments looked so generic and I couldn't find one I liked. So I decided to make one through the photosite I use and then it will be personalized totally with a picture of us and the date.
