2010 - An Exciting Year For Disneyland Resort?

There's a fun thread in the WDW section listing the new things that came to the WDW parks in 2010. I thought we'd do one here, to list all the new stuff that came to Disneyland and DCA. I won't get into what has closed and is in the process of reinvention and major rehab, just what was new this year.

Disneyland Park 2010
  • Rivers of America drained, new animatronics, new sets, new horticulture, and "Four Rivers" theme added
  • HISTA closed, Captain EO Tribute debuted
  • Day One Disneyland, new Disney Gallery exhibit
  • Halloween parties moved to Disneyland
  • Tomorrowland Terrace six month rehab, reopens with new look and menu
Disney California Adventure Park 2010
  • Dropped the apostrophe 's' from the name :D
  • Silly Symphony Swings opens
  • World of Color opens
  • Glow Fest arrives for summer
  • New Blue Sky Cellar exhibit for Little Mermaid and Paradise Pier
  • elecTRONica arrives for fall/winter
  • Wine Country Trattoria rehab, reopens with new look and menu
  • Disney Channel Rocks opens
  • Disney Dance Crew opens

Did I forget anything major?

The de-crapifying of the "Celebration" banners from the lamp posts on Main Street, refurbs at Snow White's Scary Advetures and Indiana Jones adding some new animatronics and effects, continual maintenance of other attractions, and the re-opening of Pinocchio's Village Haus after an extensive refurb.

Quite an exciting year, and 2011 looks even better, with potential refurbs at the Matterhorn, the opening of the newly-refurbished/re-themed Paradise Garden food area, Goofy's Sky School, and the opening of the Little Mermaid attraction.

There was also the nice update and rehab to the Main Street Cinema in '10, among many other rehabs and freshenings...

But those were all rather minor and expected annual maintenance and upkeep and routine plussing. 2010 was no different regarding that concept than previous years; 2009 saw a big upgrade at Peter Pan with new boats and SpeFX, new digital effects and lighting added at Alice in Wonderland, a massive multi-month rehab at StorybookLand with new landscaping and structures, the new Mr. Lincoln show with new animatronic face tech and new lobby show, new floats in the Christmas parade, the new dragon and lighting and digital projections in Fantasmic, etc., etc.

There's clearly a difference in the level of maintenance and plussing of the parks at Disneyland compared to WDW. It seems Anaheim's two theme parks undertake more plussing and major rehabs than WDW's four theme parks combined. But I was trying to not count every 3 week rehab and every new animatronic or new digital effect added. I guess I added in the 2010 rehabs I did when they were long, at least several months or longer, and added dramatically new eye candy or noticeably new experiences to the park.

But overall, yes 2010 was another good year for Disneyland Resort. I think 2011 is going to keep up that pace, if not increase it a bit with the new stuff coming. Maybe a look ahead at 2011 is valid here too?...

Disneyland Park 2011
  • Soundsational Parade Debuts
  • Rumored Long Rehab Splash Mountain
  • Rumored Long Rehab/New Bobsleds Matterhorn
  • Star Tours 2.0 Debuts
  • Rumored Christmas Parties Debut

Disney California Adventure 2011
  • Voyage Of The Little Mermaid Debuts
  • Goofy's Sky School Debuts
  • Paradise Garden Grill and Dining Terrace Debuts
  • Boardwalk Pizza N' Pasta Debuts
  • Rumored Halloween Version of World of Color Debuts

There's the new stuff at the Disneyland Hotel coming in '11 too, but I was just thinking of the parks. Have I missed anything that anyone knows about?

Where did you hear about the possible new bobsleds in 2011?

I love the Matterhorn, but have to admit that the ride system itself could use a makeover. My gf, whose back has been known to act up, can't handle the Matterhorn in its current form. If they fixed it up, and made it a little more comfortable, this could easily slip back into one of my favorite rides at Disneyland.

you can add these to your 2011 list -

[DCA] Pixar Pop-Up Shows
[DCA] Disney Junior - Live on Stage
[DCA] "Maliboomer" Park opens in Paradise Pier
[DL] Family Fun Weekends

They tested the new bobsleds last year. It's rumored they will be updating the entire fleet of vehicles later this year. Here's a picture of them in action -

Not old, just vintage.

Oooh. I like the look of the new bobsleds. Seems like it will be a lot more comfortable and less back-breaking. No one warned me about the bruises I would sustain from riding when I was on it for the first time in July.

Wow, thanks for the information sponono88! Those new bobsleds look very sleek... I hope they are improved in terms of comfortability too. Suffice to say, I'm excited.
