Nope.
Nothing is UNDER the lagoon.

More like...next to the lagoon.

It seems very ironic that the Magic Kingdom wardrope department is being moved. I think that this could be a sign of things to come.;)

Groundbreaking is scheduled for Dec. 4. It's going to be 28,000 sq. feet. CM are no longer going to be required to change into costume when arriving/leaving work.

I bet its quite spooky inside the lagoon building. Does anybody know what it's like? Any Pics?

They have one of the subs on Castaway Cay? Where? I must have missed that!

There's better use for this area than a Mermaid Lagoon...I think two nice dark rides would be nice in this area...or perhaps one big e-ticket...maybe something along the lines of Spidy over at IOA....

:lookaroun

In the end I guess anything is better than nothing....:hammer:

That's probly why I missed it... I was at Serenity Bay. But next time I'll have to head over there and take a look! Thanks!

As I understood it there were one or more sink holes under the lagoon. So if that is the case they couldn't drain it without placing something underneath. Could they?

Mermaid Lagoon

Since the 20K area is near to Toon Town Fair, and since everything I hear about Disney Seas/Mermaid Lagoon are that they are very kid oriented, might it be that putting Mermaid Lagoon into 20K would extend the Toon Town Fair orientation even further? This would seem to be a sensible thing to do. They could even add another entrance into Toon Town Fair from this side opening the whole are up more.

Personally, I think Mermaid Lagoon is a great land in TDS, but not for the MK! No land in the magic Kingdom should be themed to only one movie. I'd also hate to see a Nemo attraction because it takes place in modern times unlike the rest of the Fantaseyland attractions. I'd love to see an extended, or brand new Toon Town there. That would be the best! Just like DL's Toon Town.

A NEW version of Mickey's Toontown should be located at the Disney-MGM Studios wich would contain Rodger Rabbit's car-toon spin (with a new stunt show coming in , the Indy stunt show will be replaced with either a new Indy ride thru or a new themed area).

As for the 20L lagoon ,the outside lagoon of water is big enough to hold an upper showbuilding for a dark ride or theater, while the entrence to the current Toontown Fair will lead to Mermaid Lagoon on the side of the 20L showbuilding. The Train station would be relocated further down between both showlands with a 20L theme that fits in with Mermaid and Tomorrowland.

Does anyone know if the water in the lagoon is drinkable if properly treated like the lagoon a DL? This is a reason DL can't get rid of there lagoon because in cause of emergency's or some sort of nuclear war it could supply water.

Due to the nature of the mechanics in the water, the lagoon is kept at a treatment level which beings the water to within 3% of meeting federal drinking standards.

The lagoon at DL is the same, and the water is far more likely to be used to put out a fire, than to used for drinking. As I understand it, there is no law requiring the lagoon to be kept. If DL wants to drain it, they can do so. The designation of DL as a "safe haven" in case of disaster is pretty much voluntary.

I just never have understood why Disney has left the lagoon with no attraction running for such a long time. I mean in WDW 20k shut down back in 94'. So it took them nearyl 10 years to decide to do anything with it? I mean lets be honest that character meet and greet was a last min idea. Most of the characters you get pictures with don't belong in a lagoon setting.

20 K Lagoon

My wife and I took the Keys to the Kingdom behind the scenes tour at the start of the month and we we told by the CM who ran the tour that the 20 K Lagoon serves as the headwaters for all the water features in the MK.
From the the 20 K Lagoon it travels under Fantasy Land to the moat around the castle and then is dyed green for the Jungle Cruse and then to the Rivers of America.
From there it travels to a canal outside the park which leads to the Seven Seas Lagoon. Because the water reaches natural water ways via Bay Lake, it must be treated.
So the reason that they can't just fill in the Lagoon is because it would affect all the other water ways in the MK.
I don't why she would tell us this if it was not true.
BTW we really enjoyed the tour.

Sorry.
That's not true.

Any and all of the waters in the MK can be drained at any time.
The Rivers have been drained several times, so has the lagoon.
The waterways are not interdependent.

Think about it....if they dye it green for the Jungle Cruise, which they do by pouring the dye into the top of Schweitzer Falls, it would then flow into the Rivers, turning it green.

However, at DL the bodies of water are connected to some degree, running from the old motorboat cruise area around to the Rivers. At least thats the way it used to be, it may have changed.

Lee,

Thanks for your correction. I do wonder why the cm would tell us this if its not true.

Just to cover the fact that they don't know what do with the Lagoon?

Was she just ms-informed about a major technical aspect of the park? She claimed to be veteran tour guide who had worked the park for many years.

Should I doubt all the other backstage she told us during the tour?

Have others gone on this tour and heard similar things?

Inquiring minds want to know:)

You know, it's probably just one of those stories that seem to catch on and get told until they almost become official. (Like Matterhorn falling over if the Sub Lagoon at DL is drained)
It is sort of true in regards to the waters at DL, so maybe that is the explanation.

You can trust the other stuff you were told. Tour guides for the most part are well educated about the park. If anyone else tells you that story about the water, ask them to show you where it runs under the park....in tubes? Under Utilidors? Over Utilidors?

The feeling I am getting is don't believe the guide. This is not the first time that I have seen a conflict between a guide and the truth on this board. I am not so sure I want to take a tour.
