2 way radios as long range baby monitor

We're staying at WL, and we're looking at ways to be out of the room during nap time:snore: . Has anyone tried two way radios for baby monitors? The newer models have a voice activation feature, so you don't have to push the talk button to be heard. I was wondering how well they work, plus if you could turn the volume down to cut out receiving other radios and still be able to transmit full strength. I was hoping the radios would have better signal strength than regular baby monitors.

Here's my 2 cents:

Ask for a room at the WL that overlooks the lobby.

Just outside your room are these amazingly comfy rocking chairs. Mom & Dad can sit, read the paper, chat, etc, while the kids are asleep in the room.

Because you will be just outside the room, you will be able to make sure no one goes in, and you can "watergate" the door open so you can hear anything inside.

With this arrangement, you will be no farther away that you would be at home.

Photo of lobby. Over the front desk you can see a room. The rocking chairs are in the hallway near the railings.

You have to admit that this is a nice view from your front door:

that's was my orginal thought was that if i got a room with a door open to the lobby that i could see it from the floor. I didn't realize that there were chairs on the floors outside the rooms. A regular monitor could be used there. I figured a stronger monitor like a radio would need to be used if i had to be on the lobby floor. thanks.

Just a note on the radios and not the actual use for them in this case...

We tried using them a few years ago when cell phone plans weren't what they are today. They really are horrible when it comes to the parks. The interference and the amount of people on the channels make them very hard to use. With cell phone plans covering a lot more areas now (especially our verizon plan) we don't really have to worry about roaming or signal strength. Cell phones seem to be the best idea for in park communication.
