2 Resorts - One Trip

We would love to stay at one of the monorail resorts but not sure we can swing it for our 9 night trip in October (although I am constantly checking the latest deals and keeping my fingers crossed....). We are considering staying at one of the moderates for half the trip and then upgrading to a mono resort for the remainder. Do you think (with 3 kids) this would be worth the hassle? I know Disney will transport our luggage etc.. but not sure if the switch would be as easy as it sounds. Thanks for your input! Also - what is the best rate anyone has seen for the Contmeporary and the Polynesian? We are annual passholders, Disney Club & AAA members but are not FL residents. Thanks!

OHHH It's no hassle at all.. For my sixteenth birthday my dad took my best friend and me down. Because we usually try to save money we stay at allstars. But since this was my sweet 16 gift, my dad wanted it to be special. So we tried to stay at as many hotels as possible.. Over the course of the trip we stayed at:

1st night: Port orleans (we got there a night early cause we drove and didn't stop over so this was the only place that had a room)

2nd-3rd nights: Beach Club Resort

4th-5th nights: Grand Floridian

6th-7th nights: Animal Kingdom Lodge

8th-9th nights: Bordwalk Inn

As you can imagine, two 16 year old girls do NOT by any means travel light! And it wasn't a problem. The mornings of our departure the luggage service would come take our bags and take it to the next hotel.. We didn't have to worry about a thing. We went to the parks and then took the bus back to the new hotel. It was sooo simple. Then we checked in and within 10 minutes our luggage was in the room. It was soooo easy!! And, I highly recommend it because each time u check into a new hotel it feels like you just arrived at disney again--the best feeling in the world! Hehe, it really is that easy. Definitely go for it..especially because one hotel switch is even easier!

I asked a while ago on one of these boards if it was possible to change resort or upgrade once I have arrived and several people said it wasn't that easy and the resorts wouldn't be very helpful. I am booked for 14 night at the All Stars but would like to spend a few nights in another resort. How would I go about spending maybe just the last two or three nights elsewhere? Would I need a seperate booking or is it considered an upgrade?

I would call 1 (407) W DISNEY again and call it an "upgrade" and see what they'd say. I know its really easy to cancel reservations up to less than a week in advance... And if they tell you that there are no rooms available at that time, call back and call back and call back every day because there are thousands of cancellations. I'm sure you'll be able to get in a nicer hotel for the last few nights if you call now.

We decided to do this in August when we go. 3 Nights at Port Orleans and 6 nights Polynesian. We decided that since Disney will move the luggage we can go on our way that day and just check in later. So it seems like it will work fine.

no trouble at all

I think its great to switch hotels half way through the vacation...you get a whole new experience! The only trouble is the packing and un packing but make things simple by packing two bags one for the first hotel and another for the second. Another tip would be...let one parent do the packing and the other do the un-packing at the hotel. That way there will always be one parent free to take the kids for a swim!:animwink:

What a great idea about the suitcase for each hotel! (Unless you're Alee4eva and go to 4 hotels LOL!) Thanks for the posts - anybody else have any comments/suggestions?

We stayed at the Grand Floridian, the Boardwalk and the Yacht Club over a two week period and had NO problems at all....we checked out of one hotel, the bellhop took the bags and arranged to send them to the next hotel....we went to the park and then checked into the next hotel only to find our bags waiting for us...smooth as a baby's behind.

...yep, the packing and unpacking is the only hassle but the experience of a new hotel is worth it.
