Could be more work needing to be done, and they needed it running for the summer season, so after the busy part is done, they can bring it down again, and finish

Are all these real refurbs or just shutting it down in the slow season?

Also is there any chance of them putting fastpass on this attraction since they are putting it on everything else?

The Riverboat is refurb intensive. Have a look at its refurb history here http://www.wdwmagic.com/Attractions/Liberty-Square-Riverboat/Refurbishments.htm

It seems to average around 3 refurbs per year. I believe it is largely to do with the boiler system.

Dealing with boilers I can tell you that sometimes the routine maintenance does requiere extensive work. And for a system that old and that gets that much use, it's a miracle it's up as much as it is!:sohappy:

Fastpass on the riverboat? Perhaps I've just never been to WDW when it warranted one...and I've been in the dead of summer, which is one of the more miserable times of the year to stand on a boat and drift every so slowly around a swamp

If that's the norm with this thing, then I can completely understand why they'd consider permanently docking it and turning it into a meet n greet or restaurant. That's a lot of refurbIshing for something with such a small payoff. It's definitely not a headliner at the park.

I guess this will be an area to continue to watch in the next number of years.

I'd rather them do this than constantly throw money at the thing. Either that or find some gas turbine powered craft if they feel like they really need to have a riverboat ride.
