Thats what I was implying...the official ones are made in China. Disney probably makes about 90% profit from every pin they sell

I wonder what the difference was?

It not a stretch of the imagination that they could have been made at the same factory that makes the "Official" pins.

Are these cloisonne' pins?

Because those are an ancient Chinese technique where the gold outline of the image is bent by super dexterous fingers (yes, poor young Chinese girls have those kinds of hands) and sharp eyesight and artistic skill. It's not a job for older people. I have a lot of unwanted cloisonne from my dad's unsold inventory back from when cloisonne was still special and respected for the handiwork and skill level. I did have an official jewelry set of Donald Duck ring, necklace and bracelet when I was little - they fell off me at a department store. I remember that Donald looked Disney perfect. I bet those bootlegs would look great if they were made in China but I bet the Chinese value the very old relationship with Disney far more. It's going to be easier and easier to get Chinese cooperation on cracking down on bootleggers since Shanghai Disney is iminent.
