Merlin's Magic Academy

OH3wexo.png

Young Royals, Warriors, and Sorcerer's can come to Merlin and his WITs (Wizards in Training) in the wizard's study to live out their dreams! This serves as a spiritual successor and expansion of the hugely popular Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and the similarly popular Pirate's League.

Kids can come here to play an expensive game of dress up as the WITs (the stylists) give them a makeover, style their hair, and gets them set up for a costume and a photo shoot! But instead of just Princesses and princes, Merlin's Magic Academy expands on the concept in new ways and themes!

knightoptionsfeature.jpg

Become a (K)noble Knight with the make over giving fake battle scars and burns! Each mark the WIT adds comes with a story of a fire breathing dragon or angry troll that gave you that mark. End the experience with a brief lesson in sword fighting and a souvenir photo!

merlin3.jpg

Become a Wise Wizard with the make over adding stars, moons, sparkles, and other magical touches to your face. Each sparkle the WIT adds comes with another story of a new spell. End the experience with a brief lesson of a simple magic trick and a souvenir photo!

lwyegfbhj4785.jpg

Become a Regal Royal with the make over serving as a more traditional make over so you'll be ready for an enchanting evening. All while your WIT tells stories of various Disney Prince and Princesses they've helped in the past. End the experience with a brief dance lesson so you'll be ready for the ball!

All three experiences exit into the Meet & Greet Hall next door so you can have a photo shoot with some of your favorite Disney characters in the 15 minutes between the makeover and the kid spilling ice cream all over themselves! Over the age of 13? There are limited spots for adults wanting a more extreme Disneybounding Day. They can sign up for a modified experience in either early morning or the evening.

The Villain's Vault

Untitled-design-30.png

Hidden behind a secret door in a stone wall (which has fortunately been left open by some careless henchman so guests can enter), the Evil Queen's Lair awaits. Right in the center of the store by the entrance is the Magic Mirror. The animated spirit of the mirror is voiced/acted by a live actor (using the finest in VTuber technology), so they can interact with guests like a less goofy version of the Magic Fountain in Lost Continent. Go right from the mirror to find the all kinds of Disney Villain themed merchandise sold in shelves made out of medieval torture devices and other nefarious items the Evil Queen had lying around. Go left from the mirror to find a room full of spell books, candy, baked goods, Poison Caramelized Apples, and a giant decorative cauldron. This side is essentially a mini version of the popular Candy Cauldron store from Disney Springs.

Once Upon A Dream is an E-ticket attraction like no other. The gathering of Disney Princesses to show the world what it takes to be a true princess.

The ride system utilizes the trackless boat technology used in Shanghai’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure.

Guests enter a village that is covered in decorations. Guests wind through a village pathway passing small houses. Above the village is a mountain with an elegant castle perched on top (achieved using forced perspective). Snow White has invited all of the Princesses to her kingdom to celebrate the harmony of their adjacent kingdoms.
75BBBCB7-2E86-416F-807A-ADF15457FA24.jpeg

We enter a Pre-show room inside of a quaint village house. Inside, animatronics of the Fairy Godmother, Grandmother Willow, Grandma Tala (who is achieved using Pepper’s Ghost), and Mrs. Potts all reminisce about the respective journeys of the princesses.

“Through hard work and bravery, these princesses became much more than just mere royalty. They became true heroes in their own right and the joining together of our kingdoms only confirms this!” says the Fairy Godmother. With the wave of her wand, a nearby mirror displays images of famous Disney Princesses like Pocahontas, Mulan, and Anna. Suddenly, the mirror turns into a doorway and guests are ushered into the boarding area, which is themed as the inside of the castle. Windows (screens) display the village below. Guests board trackless boats and begin their journey. They travel into the castle but go down a shallow drop and find themselves back in the village and wind their way around the festival. They see Meeko taking food from baskets. Mushu playing with fire (literally) and Sebastian conducting a musical fish orchestra. The boats then circle around the Season Tree and the Carosuel of Seasons.

The guests enter a cave and enter an enchanted forest. The Fairy Godmother appears out of thin air. “A princess must be Brave, Kind, and willing to make her dreams come true!” she says as the boasts quickly enter the next scene. They enter a dark room where, with the beat of a heavy drum, the lights turn on to reveal the training camp where Mulan became a warrior. “A princess must be brave. Always standing up for what’s right, no matter what!” the Fairy Godmother says. Mulan trains as Li Shang sings “I’ll Make A Man Out of You”. An audio animatronic Mulan climbs a pole and reaches the top.
A4CEBD9A-7905-4349-8EEB-383DA7A92520.jpeg

The boats enter the magical forest from Frozen 2 as Anna sings “The Next Right Thing” atop a rock facing the water. “Just do the next right thing. Take a step, step again. It is all that I can to do. The next right thing”.
4009AA83-918D-4F84-9A3F-7E171BD5FF50.jpeg

We enter a large show scene where Moana faces Te Kah and sings “I Know Who You Are”. She gives the heart of Te Fiti away and the island around us shifts back to normal.
9339B23D-3BEF-45DE-B9DA-7E9B20B7C961.jpeg

The next scene takes place in a Scottish forest. Merida protects her mother against both Mord’u’ and her own father. She fires her bow at Mord’u’ as his spirit releases and her mother returns to normal.

We end up in the Snuggly Duckling as the Fairy Godmother says, “A Princess must show kindness to all. Even if it isn’t so easy.” The thugs and Rapunzel sing “I’ve Got A Dream”. Hookhand plays the piano and Flynn Ryder hesitantly sings along.
604F2F20-7B8C-40DB-81DE-E458507AEE41.png

We end up in the courtyard of the Beast’s castle. As Belle sings about the Beast’s change of heart in “Something There”. Meanwhile, the beast struggles to get birds to rest on his arms.
0A6EC359-BEF2-47D4-8081-E8136D18E0A4.jpeg

The next scene is in the Seven Dwarfs’ cottage as Snow White and the forest creatures tidy up while singing along to “Whistle While You Work”. Our boats dance around and dance with eachother.

We end up in the North American wilderness and find Pocahontas teaching John Smith about the beauty of nature during “Colors of the Wind”. The sky changes colors and Pepper’s Ghost effects of wolves, bobcats, and otters appear.
D3A87C62-ADBF-456F-8167-99888C4524B8.jpeg

After a splash of water, we end up at the bottom of the sea. The Fairy Godmother says, “And finally, a Princess must do what it takes to make her dreams come true. Through hard work, determination, and a good attitude.” We circle around Ariel stop a rock, who sings “Part of Your World”.

We then enter a large body of water with the city of Agrabah surrounding. We see Jasmine and Aladdin on their magic carpet while she sings her part of “A Whole New World”. Birds fly atop us as Jasmine touches the water and causes a ripple affect.
B271BB0D-72BF-456B-B6C8-E49FDF744151.jpeg

We enter a forest where Aurora sings “Once Upon A Dream”. The forest uses a lot of bright colors to match the beautiful setting of the movie. An audio animatronic Aurora dances to the music with her animal partners. It uses a lot of black lights like Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

We enter a room where 2 1/2D is utilized. Tiana sings “Almost There” but the room gives off the feel of the original scene. Tiana herself i the scene is a screen but effects are in play that make her seem like a real life figure.
9ACD865D-C2CD-4096-A5C8-120CA98C56FA.jpeg

Elsa sings “Show Yourself”. She reveals herself as the 5th spirit of nature and sees her mother proudly staring back at her.
5B37BAEF-6F1A-4FE2-B3B2-A234B56ABCA9.jpeg

Cinderella and Prince Charming dance during “So, this is Love”.

The Fairy Godmother says, “And THAT, is what makes a princess!” as an animatronic of every princess steps onto a large stage and sings an original song, titled “What Makes A Princess”. This also includes princesses who weren’t included in the attraction like Megara, Jane, Kida, Giselle, and even Vanellope. The song reminds everyone that royal blood doesn’t make a difference and that anyone can be a true princess. All they have to do is have the strength to make it happen.

The boats return to the boarding area as the ride comes to an end. They exit out a magical portal into a village gift shop. They can buy shirts, toys, and plushes of every animal sidekick!

I'll admit, I'm having trouble thinking of a replacement for the Sword in the Stone. We probably have enough if we just cut it or absent mindedly copied it. Anyone have any ideas?

Is anyone using Tinkerbell in our land? Perhaps she could play the "Merlin" role and instead of looking for who can pull the sword out of the stone she is looking for someone to help her make a flower bloom or something simple/cheesey like that (I've never seen the Tinkerbell movies. I assume she makes flowers bloom or something like that?)

GARDEN OF SEASONS

A magical island rises in the center of Fantasy Seasons, in an enchanted place where all four seasons meet. This is the Garden of Seasons, a bucolic oasis of gurgling streams, meandering pathways, and the quietude of nature.

The Season Tree rises majestically at the heart of our garden! This mystical tree somehow lives in all four seasons at once - flowers bloom on its springtime corner, the summer leaves are a lush green, autumnal foliage bursts into vibrant reds, and the wintertime branches stand bare covered in icicles. The Season Tree is Fantasy Seasons’ main icon & weenie, visible from every seasonal area.

Tranquil waterways surround Garden of Seasons on all sides. Guests cross over quaint cobblestone bridges to find a central hub area. There are no shops or restaurants in Garden of Seasons, where the majesty of nature reigns supreme. The island is home to three flat rides, each set on their own elevated rocky islet. From above, these three circles combine into a Hidden Mickey. Winding pathways explore the meadows, curving around the mighty roots of the Season Tree, over tiny streams and waterfalls. Enchanted by the rivers’ magic, large rocks throughout take the shape of characters from Fantasia and Fantasia 2000.

815a344e0a9e14c79feeabc1b3551c21.jpg

The Garden of Seasons is even more beautiful at nighttime, when everything glistens with a warm, gentle glow. The rivers sparkle with light blue bioluminescence, as though fed by a mystical underground spring. Fireflies (fiber-optic lights) blink in the hedgerows and willow thickets. The Season Tree teems with lights and projections, one season at a time, as the tree imparts its blessing throughout all of Fantasy Seasons.

shanghai_disneyland_mystery.jpg

CAROUSEL OF THE SEASONS

Built around the thick base of the Season Tree is the Carousel of the Seasons. This storybook wood structure itself feels organic, almost like a natural outgrowth of the Season Tree, with tree trunk support beams, vines in the rafters, and leaf-like textures on the floors and ceilings. Riders aboard their fantastical carousel creatures will merrily rotate through the year’s seasons while soaking in 360 degree views of Fantasy Seasons.

The Carousel of the Seasons features characters from Fantasia as rideable “horses.” Shanghai Disneyland’s Fantasia Carousel is a clear inspiration, though ours boasts a wider assortment of characters - from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” “The Nutcracker Suite,” “The Rite of Spring,” “The Dance of the Hours,” “The Pines of Rome,” and more. A calliope plays symphonic music as the carousel spins. Riders swiftly travel from one season to another, experiencing the annual cycles of nature several times on their joyous ride.

enhance

PEGASUS THE FLYING HORSE

Pegasus the Flying Horse is a variation on the Dumbo the Flying Elephant aerial carousel, themed to the lovable Pegasus horses from Fantasia’s Pastoral Symphony. Our attraction faces the Spring section, which best matches the ride’s bright pastel color scheme.

Sixteen baby Pegasus foals circle a colorful mechanical platform. These Pegasi appear in blue, pink, orange and yellow, with a single black Peter Pegasus serving as the most coveted ride vehicle. The central sphere bears willow leaf patterns and other design details from the animated sequence. Mother Pegasus watches over her young children on their first flight, perched in her nest atop the platform and shaded by a vibrantly red fantasy tree. Guests queue in Delphic Greek temples encircling the ride, admiring as it spins.

Music plays from Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, with a different movement for each two minute flight. Water fountains dance around the sphere’s base, with playful changes in spray choreographed with the music. Young riders are welcome to soar as high or as low as they please, thanks to on-ride controls inside each Pegasus. Every guest gets to live out their fantasy of flight in a soothing, friendly setting!

enhance

THE MUSHROOM DANCE

The last flat ride on our Garden of Seasons program is The Mushroom Dance, inspired by Fantasia’s Nutcracker Suite sequence. It is located facing the Autumn (Fall) section, befitting the ride’s warm color palette. From walkways, guests will recognize a troupe of red Chinese mushrooms - all limited-motion animatronics - stacked up along a blue rocky precipice. This slightly sunken dance circle is ringed by a simple gazebo trellis queue.
The crag itself is borrowed from Sorcerer’s Apprentice. On the crag’s peak sits Hop Low, a smaller pink mushroom, who adorably always dances out-of-step with the larger toadstools.

Tchaikovsky’s rather short “Chinese Dance” piece plays out in its entirety as the ride spins. For all its elaborate theming, this is basically a tilt-a-whirl! Sixteen mushroom ride vehicles spin clockwise around the central precipice, up and down along a gently wavy track. (Scuttle’s Scooters at Tokyo DisneySea demonstrates the exact same family-friendly ride system.) The animatronic fungi on the rocky cliffs dance in time with the music. At first ride vehicles rush facing forward, but as the dance progresses they start to spin...then facing inwards, then backwards, then spinning in all directions! The ride sensation is bouncy and exhilarating like Tchaikovsky’s music, but never overwhelming or intense. Young and old both will find this a fun, gleeful experience!

I'll admit, I'm having trouble thinking of a replacement for the Sword in the Stone. We probably have enough if we just cut it or absent mindedly copied it. Anyone have any ideas?

Mary Poppins Ride
(We don't have a name so would love ideas!)

Exterior

The exterior of the ride is in Cherry Tree Lane where guests can see all the Victorian style homes of all different shades of white and brown. The Banks' house, the entrance for the ride, is a creme color with subtle hints of red accents. There is a small sign that states ****NAME OF RIDE**** with a silhouette of an umbrella.

Queue
When you enter the Banks's home, you can definitely tell Mary Poppins was there. It is full of wonder and life with lots of interactive experiences. The first room of the queue is the living room.
tQhqHVnRLnzo_LjtUnTemptPUC9Vlo8eoAlL_mJBuaGxp1JbVFDJm31pshPDQ0Lzyiyt1rW1UjcKOq8ZZ9E-_01jHdCx4Yl1HlszkGbMo5-l2jYwbSzN7tML7iqvJJC5CtV0EXRl

Guests wind through the living room with books that open and close by themselves and paper that flies up to reveal life events of the Banks family, tax records, and some pictures of the family. The second room is the kitchen where guests can catch cleaning supplies and move on their own as they tidy up for supper. After some time in the kitchen, you return to the doorway and head up the stairs (or elevators for people with disabilities. When you reach the stairs you enter the Banks' childrens’ room. There are toys moving by themselves everywhere you look.

HwxEFKs-wknmRUXocE8Pq-Lw9VOekh8WPwQrP09_F2Cam5K3Ua4jJ0SaRz5W_Drrw8-_GTrRtJ42YFCk3jTdhRL9c6e1dDZzhFv5fyZK491yLHPEDO9n98C7mh2b1PNFfhB0aTo-

The next room you enter is the bathroom. Every 5 minutes, a new toy emerges from the tub paying homage to the Can You Imagine That segment in Mary Poppins Returns. The bathroom is probably the most lively room in the Banks house with lots of toys coming up from the tub and bubbles everywhere. You exit back into the hallway where you go downstairs into the pre-show.

Pre-Show
18 guests enter a room that is themed to the outdoors with fake trees, statues, and a screen on the ceiling that is projecting the sky. There are 4 AAs lined up standing on a curb. They are Bert, Mary, Jane, and Michael, respectively. The 4 stand in front of a huge painting that Bert has just completed.

Jane: Why did we come to the park today Mary Poppins?

Mary: Bert wanted to show us his lovely painting.

Michael: That is a big painting. It is like I can walk right through it!

Bert: Well you can! Right, Mary?

Mary: Bert I have no idea what you are talking about.

Jane: What do you mean we can walk through it? That is impossible?

Mary: Everything is possible, even the impossible

Bert: So what do you say, Mary. Let’s take these kids on an adventure!

Mary: I guess a small trip couldn’t hurt

Load Area
The painting then starts to move backward unveiling a huge, animated festival. This is done by having the painting on a moving platform which allows for guests to step into the magical painted world. The festival is hugely lit with some moving sets and some projected on the screens. The loading area is a regular looking carousel. Guests can choose from one of three groupings that have two horses and a single bench carriage. Once all three groupings are full of guests (4-5 people per group), cast members help with restraints (the bench has a full lap bar while the horses have a back brace). Once all guests are secure, the ride starts!

Scene 1; The Carousel
1602088201919.png

After all guests are loaded in, the carousel starts to spin. After the lead car does a full rotation, the track switch is turned on sending guests off the carousel and free into the park. The carousel horse poles go into the ground and are rigid in a track beneath them. The bench carts are the same.

Here is a quick mockup of how it would look (the grey is the loading platform, the brown is the carousel, and the purple is the lead car of horses and bench seat):

Scene 2; Jolly Holiday
1602089138841.png

Guests turn the corner to hear a familiar Mary Poppins tune. Guests can see Bert and Mary Poppins dancing and singing "Jolly Holiday" under a large tree (as seen above). In front of the small river behind them, guests can see the penguin waiters dancing to add more depth to the area.

1602094214789.png

Scene 3; The Race!
1602093868305.png

After guests leave the Jolly Holiday duo, they enter a horse track. Through the use of screens and speakers playing horse stomps, guests can hear the horses are coming, and they are coming fast! Quickly, the horses turn and are suddenly in the horse race! On their left, they can find Mary Poppins on her horse slightly ahead of them. And Mary Poppins wins the race! Bright camera flashes go off allowing for a transition into the next scene.

Scene 4; Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
1602094008052.png

Guests pass Mary and Bert dancing to Supercalifragilisticexpalidocious celebrating Mary's big win at the race. The band behind them is all playing their music loud and proud while guests can also see Jane and Michael sitting on the fence with their candy apples; carousel horses nearby ready to go!

Scene 5; The Fountains

After having a super, fun time singing Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, you enter the Gardens of Wonder. There are fountains everywhere. But these are not normal fountains, as they can change their shape and spray water in different directions. One of the statues spray water at the guests and Micheal. Near the end of the scene, Jane and Micheal go off in a different direction than Mary and Bert.

Scene 6; Wonder
CSiYJML1GPMYWbEMNxXH4I78opK1fd5MC0PQQbyd25g8N0be8hSdAlexajNsVOszxB9rWq-1WIA6t9h7Q6hMrCIcQol6aM-PDdfRxISp8ID_pSBGUtIQAUUFZLFco8huf0S_A1sX

The next scene has a new, original song called “Wonder” where Jane and Micheal sing about all the wondrous things they’ve seen during their time in Bert’s painting. They pick colorful items and put them in their pockets, hoping it will come home with them. While this is happening, Mary and Bert find the children and tell them it wasn’t nice of them to run off. During this, a little rain starts to pour down. Mary says they have to go before the painting gets washed away or else they are gonna be trapped in the painting forever.

Scene 7; Escape!

The whole group moves forward but is stopped by a garden wall maze! The group gets nervous, but Bert says he will guide them through it since he painted it! The guests’ horses go into the maze and twist and turn through the maze for a few moments only hearing Bert’s voice telling them where to go. Then they reach the end of the maze where they can see the festival and entrance of the painting again (duplicate of the loading room). The horses speed up and enter through the painting where guests find themselves back into London in a regular looking carnival. The Banks children ask Mary Poppins where is all the colorful attire they were wearing and all the items they stored in their pockets. Mary looks in confusion and says it is time to go home.

The guests’ horses enter a small room where they unload, head through the exit, and enter the ride shop.

The Mighty Mjolnir

71yhqpHDSbL._AC_SX522_.jpg

Replacing the iconic Sword in the Stone is a more modern update on the classic Fantasyland photo-op. Right at the edge of the Castle Courtyard near the water feature in the center of the land, Thor's hammer Mjolnir sits half buried in the rocks. Guests can take photos trying to pull the hammer, but none shall be able to. A plaque on the rock has the inscription, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of... Thor." A few times throughout the day, Thor (in a more fantasy inspired version of his costume similar to the first movie compared to the more sci-fi versions from recent films) will come out to look for anyone worthy to lift the hammer. After a few big strong men can't, he chooses a young kid. They may not lift the hammer, but when the kid grabs the hammer thunder can be heard and lighting around the courtyard makes it look like Lightning is striking. They may not be worthy of the throne of Asgard, but Thor will give the lucky kid a medal and declare them a Hero of Asgard!

Scene 3; The Race!

Guests pass Mary and Bert dancing to Supercalifragilisticexpalidocious celebrating Mary's big win at the race. The band behind them is all playing their music loud and proud while guests can also see Jane and Michael sitting on the fence with their candy apples; carousel horses nearby ready to go!

This is kind of an obvious idea for a name but maybe Jolly Holiday?
