Question of the Day
What is the worst dining experience you’ve had in any of the parks?
Pizzafari.

It wasn't a bad restaurant. It's just that, in the midst of all sorts of great food around Disney World (seriously, even the pepperoni pizza egg roll right outside of Adventureland still sticks with me), I tried this place and it was just some super-basic theme park pizza.

I really hate to dunk on this place and I'm sure I'll have people defending it, but Marrakesh was easily the worst dining experience I've had inside WDW. The interior design is absolutely stunning and worth just going in there and looking around, but the meal left a lot to be desired.

First off, we had to move tables twice due to a wobbly table leg, and at the table we ended up with our chair legs were uneven. I mean, it happens, it's not the end of the world, but it definitely set a tone. The belly dancer which is meant to be the main attraction was honestly a bit uncomfortable to watch just because she was playing to a near empty crowd and frankly bringing up children to do belly dancing routines is a bit disquieting haha. I mean, I really do appreciate that they run the entertainment side of things so routinely even when I'm sure the place is empty half the time, but the emptiness just sort of made it more of a distraction than anything else. I'm sure with a full house the belly dancer would be a lot of fun.

Now for the food. I ordered beef kabobs. I'm a picky eater, but not when it comes to meat. This beef was the most un-tender, stringy, impossible to chew substance I've ever put in my mouth. The seasoning was fine, but my god I still remember how bad the texture was. The moroccan rice also really threw me off because of the texture. Definitely a lot more thick than regular rice and if there's ONE thing I'm a picky eater about, it's in regards to texture haha.

So overall Marrakesh went from one of the most anticipated places to try in Epcot to sort of a running joke of how bad our experience there was haha. It's a shame because I hear nothing but near universal praise from most everyone else about it. Maybe I was just there on an off day.

Does this include Six Flags? Because you’d be better off eating the wrappers their food comes in.

Or if we’re sticking with Disney then Disneyland Paris as a whole wins this illustrious honor, hands down. Because having ZERO restaurants open at all counts as a bad dining experience. For sheer survival, I wound up eating indifferently-made snack cart crepes, which were the ONLY food available in the entire park all day long.

...How?! How does that happen?!

Probably Plaza Restaurant. I really enjoyed the food, but they lost our reservation after we had checked in so we ended up having to wait outside on Main Street for like an hour and a half.

Outside of that, I can't think of any place at Disney where I've had a "bad" meal per se. Granted, the foodie in me forces me to do an ungodly amount of research into the restaurants before I make a reservation.

Don't worry tiki, your not alone on this one. My family had a not-so-enjoyable experience there somewhere between 2005-07. Never been back since, and I've been back to the parks a LOT since then.

This reminds me of the one time I attempted Be Our Guest for lunch and nobody told me about the check in process or that you had to order from the counter. It was dumb of me since lunch is literally advertised as a counter service experience, but I had thought checking in with the CM out front was me checking in for my meal. I also pre-ordered ahead of time, so I assumed that the Magic Band or something would guide the server to my table haha.

I was so anxious to grab a table that I walked right past the place you're supposed to order and ended up sitting there waiting like 45 minutes as everyone besides me got their food. I ended up just leaving without getting the meal since I had dinner reservations in EPCOT that night and there were still a significant number of things I wanted to hit at Magic Kingdom before parkhopping. Be Our Guest is a fantastic environment, but they really need to iron out the service (and the food itself, from what I've heard...)

I’ve never been impressed by the food at Be Our Guest. I still need to eat dinner there, but lunch has always been very meh.

What they should do is make it an all-day full service, but they never will.

Food-wise, it’s Pizzarizzo hands down. Awful awful atrocious cardboard pizza with ketchup sauce that should never be injected by any living creature. Truly the worst food I’ve eaten anywhere, period.

Overall worst experience though was at Yachtsman Steakhouse. I’m not super fancy when it comes to my palette, so I was hoping for some just regular cut of steak that I was comfortable with, but they only had these cuts that either I’m not a fan of or I’m not familiar with. The salad wasn’t even very good as it was way too dressed up for my personal taste. Our server was also quite rude, asking us to speed up our orders when we didn’t know what to get due to not being brought a menu until 20 minutes into sitting there. She then rushed us through dinner coming to ask about dessert not six minutes after getting our entrees. We felt super rushed and the food didn’t warrant the experience.

I’m sure people with a fancier palate than I enjoy Yachtsman, but I’m fine with a sirloin or New York strip, so the food was too much and the service was terrible. I won’t go back, I preferred Le Cellier, even if other people aren’t big fans, I’d kill for their cheesy potatoes

For Yachtsman we learned a trick, go to the Crew's Cup right next door - order a steak or burger, it's from the same cut of meat and kitchen as Yachtsman, for $30-40 less per plate.

Tony's Townsquare.

I've never had a really bad dining experience that wasn't clearly just a fluke (I don't eat in the parks much and usually just do reliable quick services and then eat at the hotel after it closes). And I've had some good stuff at Tony's before. But it's usually like a step below Olive Garden.

I love Olive Garden and I don't mind that quality food. But if I'm paying 2 or 3 times as much for it, I want something a little more special.

Beyond that, Crystal Palace just because it used to be way better than it is. I could've just gone on an off day, but it used be really great. We went for the first time in like 7 years and it was Golden Corral quality (But like a really good Golden Corral, it wasn't terrible). Big let down from how my family remembered it.

I'm in the same boat - I'm a simple man, I can go to Columbia Harbour House for $10-15 and be happy. So if I'm going to be spending $30-40+ per plate, I'd prefer a buffet because then at least I feel like I got a bang for my buck.

It's the in-park dining that's twice as much for the same quality as any local chain that can steer me away

What's really interesting is that it is the exact opposite at Universal. Their quick services are almost all ridiculously bad that I don't even bother with that as an option especially being very expensive. But Mythos or Chocolate Emporium are both amazing food, very filling, and only about 4,5 bucks more a person than most quick service meals there.

1SC Retrospective
Season 4, Episode 1 - The Disney Year

Season 4 same out the gate running with an exciting and grand episode!

This episode was hosted by @D Hindley because him hosting seemed to be the only way to stop his winning streak lol.

This Episode's theme was about going through the twelve months. Each round had a new month and a new park. We celebrated Earth day with an Animal Kingdom prompt, Turkey day in Hollywood Studios, and many more holidays in every single Disney park around the world!

The Episode kept the same basic 1-3 Sentences, 1 picture format. Though some prompts upped the sentence count back up to 5 for larger concepts like lands. Bonuses returned with some changes. Everyone who submitted a bonus got a bonus point. Usually these were just 1 extra sentence for a separate but related prompt to the main one. Sometimes these bonuses got way outside the box! For the project celebrating everyone's favorite holiday, Talk like a Pirate Day, the bonus was to write your main project in pirate speak. And if ye don't think that be the a golden nugget of an idea, then ye be nothing more than a land lubber, argh!

There was a big focus on fun with this episode. There was a competitive edge, but there were often ties and extra bonuses and other stuff to keep the playing field even. The prompts weren't usually anything too crazy or challenging, but they were all creative and fun ideas. A lot of people got really into it and it was not at all uncommon to see people doing original art or maps for their projects. Things that usually aren't done for the 1SC, but people were having a lot of fun going all in this Episode. Sometimes this game was maybe a bit too large scale. Pushing the limit of how big this game can get before it gets too big. But it never quite crossed that line and went down in history as one of the stronger Episodes of the game!

This focus on fun projects and big ideas will definitely be kept in mind as we head into the future!

Check out the 1st Episode of the 4th Season here!

As a Discussion Question for today, let's look at my favorite prompt from Season 4, Episode 1!

"CHALLENGE 2: Similar to how Tron is an updated take on Space Mountain or Shanghai Pirates is an updated take on the classic Pirates, propose another update/reimagining of a castle park classic for Shanghai Disneyland"
If anyone is looking for anything to do while the Veto Comp is going, the retrospectives of past One Sentence Seasons are going strong! A for-fun prompt from the season we're looking back on is posted each day. The actual new Episode of the 1SC starts in just a week!

Question of the Day
What is the worst dining experience you’ve had in any of the parks?
Anything in disneyland's tomorrowland. Some of the blandest food ever. Better off grabbing a bag of chips
I don’t really think about disney food (surprising, given the fact that all my work of value In competitions are restaurants), but anyone who has ate at a restaurant there can agree with that.
