I think they are pretty comparable as far as food. They both have their signature food items, but when it comes down to it, it's not that different. If you are doing breakfast, I would probably do Crystal Palace because it's right in the Magic Kingdom, and there is something fun about getting there before the park opens and walking down Main Street USA. For dinner, I would probably do 1900 Park Fair because I adore the Evil Stepmother and Anastasia and Drizella. They are a riot and definitely make the meal a lot more fun.
crystal palace is my favorite breakfast stop - right in the park, good character interaction, and pooh's puffed french toast. SO. GOOD.
1900 park fare is fun for breakfast - alice in wonderland, the mad hatter, sometimes mary poppins and some of pooh's friends... pretty standard breakfast buffet food. dinner has a nice spread for a buffet (many people rave about the strawberry soup) and lady tremaine, anastasia and drizella, and the prince. character interaction at both meals has been great for us. easily one of the best character meals i've ever done.
Having done both, I would give the edge to Crystal Palace.....though as stated by others, they are fairly comparable. But we only do Crystal Palace for breakfast. We tried 1900 Park Fare for a character dinner, and I don't think many of us were particularly impressed with the food. I would imagine it may have a better breakfast buffet than its dinner one.
If it's dinner... I'd go for 1900 Park Fare. I really don't care for CP lunch or dinner, but 1900 Park Fare had better dinner food IMO. If it's breakfast...it depends.
If it's a pre-park opening meal, I think Crystal Palace wins this battle. There's just something so special to me about being in MK before it opens. Both have some of my fave breakfast food items. At 1900 PF- the pecan sticky rolls and the dill spread for the lox and bagels are awesome, but I also love Crystal Palace's breakfast lasagna and their corned beef hash. I give a slight edge to Crystal Palace breakfast -beyond the pre-park opening option- because the service is always amazing there whereas we've had a few issues at 1900.
We've done both for breakfast. CP we visit at least once per Disney trip, 1900 we've only visited once (on our last trip). We return next year and propose to book both for breakfast. We've done CP for dinner a couple of times. Its good, but we prefer breakfast.
As for which is better - it depends on what you're looking for. CP is set within MK, both the building and the interior decoration are great to admire. 1900 is within the GF Resort, its nice to arrive by monorail and then marvel at the splendour that the GF boasts.
I find the food at both to be the same; not that great. But we go to either one for characters, not really the food. So it depends on who you want to meet. I prefer 1900 because of the 'rare' characters you have the meet and greets with. The Step sisters are hilarious and you can barely find the Mad Hatter anywhere else. so I choose the 1900 Park Fare.
Park, for breakfast or dinner. We have had horrible luck with Crystal Palace and we have tried it several times. Twice we had very long waits to be seated (even with ADRs). I am talking waits of almost an hour; very hard when one has hungry little kids. Another time, Eeyore was approaching our table and my daughter got all excited. Then he got called away by a host. When he came back into the room, he started at the beginning again and would not make it to us before we were ready to leave. We had to ask our server to bring him over for her. At that same meal, Pooh barely posed for a picture with her. Very disappointing. We have always had good meals and positive character interactions at Park Fare though.
Depends on where you will be and which characters you prefer. As mentioned, the food is fairly similar in quality, with each location having it's own unique dishes. Crystal Palace is all Pooh & Friends, all the time while 1900 Park Fare has face characters that change by the meal. Crystal Palace is more convenient if you are going to be in MK and if you get an early reservation you can walk down the empty Main Street. 1900 allows you to do a character meal without having to use park admission, so it's good before a DTD day or after a water parks day.
