180+10 hack?

I'm not saying whether this is good, bad, or indifferent. I'm just going to kick it out there and see what people think.

Say you're checking in for seven nights on December 15. Everyone knows you can make your length-of-stay dining reservations 180 days prior to your check-in date. You're able to book 12/15 at 180 days out, 12/16 at 181 days out, and so-on all the way up to your check-out date of 12/22 at 187 days out. Unfortunately, other guests with longer stays and earlier check-ins have already had access to each of those dates at 180+10, or 190 days out. What if you made a second "dummy" reservation for 12/5/2015, allowing you 190 day access to 12/15? This would allow you to book each day of dining reservations for your "real trip" at the earliest possible 190 days in advance. Once all of your reservations are locked down, cancel the dummy reservation and get your deposit back.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
It will not let you until your actual check in date if it's 12/15 you can't until 12/15. You would have to be arriving on 12/5 for it to allow you to do 12/5 + 10 days.
Anyone can book 12/5 at 180 days yes but you cannot do + 10 until 12/15 as it knows that is your check in date no ifs, ands, or butts. Lol. It would look like it would work right now because we are past the 180 days for all of those dates but you definately could not do that on 180 for say 12/5 if you don't check in until 12/15. :)

That's what I'm talking about. Make a second "fake" reservation in which you DO check in on 12/5.

ETA: And I know we're within 180, I just made up some dates for the example.

Yes you could call and reserve those dates and put a deposit down then cancel after yes. You would have to
Go through the hassle of waiting on your deposit back etc after canceling but yes technically you could do that. I'm sure some people have. lol. I personally always get everything we want right at 180 usually even BOG so no need for the hassle. Lol :)

Just book for a couple of days longer than you actually want. As soon as you make your reservations, cancel the first couple of days (due to unforeseen circumstances).

Is this really a problem that needs resolving? I've never had any issue getting a reservation I wanted 180 days out. Sounds like an useful hack for those 60+10 day out A&E FP+ resies for those so inclined.

Seems like an absurd level of extra planning required to me, though. And I'm a planner.
Like I said, I'm not advocating for it. I always travel during the slow season so I've never struggled to get reservations.

Yeah....i'm a pretty extreme planner, and I don't think I would do this.....although the solution to waiting on your deposit back would be to just have it applied to your other reservation. I will say that we were not able to get the reservation time that we wanted for Boathouse at 180 plus 8. They had times available for a party of 6, just not the time we wanted, only a 6pm and a 8:45pm were available and we wanted 7:30.

I've heard of people having problems reducing their length of stay recently. Apparently it's a new policy that you would have to cancel your entire reservation and book a new one if you want to shorten the trip.

Is it me but if this question was about someone having a child that just turned 3 and wanted them to still go for free so they pretend their 2 everybody would be all over that person arguing its morally reprehensible to do such a thing. Yet here we seem fine with booking a fake reservation or adding additional days on to a reservation that the person knows they are going to cancel in order to beat the 180 day time frame. I am not saying doing either is right but we should be at least consistent and simply say the cutoff is the cutoff.

Maybe because my very first sentence was "I'm not saying whether this is good, bad, or indifferent. I'm just going to kick it out there and see what people think."

Perhaps. I just was taking note that rather than anyone saying no don't do that it seemed like people were providing other suggestions on how to beat the 180 days.

Not condoning it, but I know at least some offsite guests will book the cheapest reservation reservation deposit possible (Either $200 pkg or a room only at a Value during cheapest value season)...use it for the convenience and better ADR odds with 180+10...and then cancel the room/pkg shortly after.

I've heard suggestions like this before, but it just seems like a lot of work to me. I've never had trouble securing a dining reservation at the 180 day mark before, so I don't really see the need to game the system for a slight advantage.

Must be unbelievably new. I just took a day off the end of my next trip (starting tomorrow!) about a week ago with no problem. In fact I always make the reservation for longer than I can actually go, in case I need to adjust my arrival and/or departure date(s) and I've never had a problem adjusting my dates. I don't do it for questionable purposes like making ADRs but like others have said I'm not saying it's good or bad, just possible.

Not true, unless this is from the past week or so. I just shortened a reservation so I could do a split stay. I did it all online, didn't have any problems.
