12 Day Trip Report

My wife and I got back Friday night from a 12 day stay at AKL. It was our first stay at AKL. The hotel was beautiful and the food was amazing. Summary: There were a lot of foreigners (I mean A LOT, must be the devalued dollar), AKL transportation is as bad as people say and I learned that there are always more things to see and do at WDW.

Day 1
Wanyama Safari - Awesome... the safari was awesome and the food was amazing. Got a standard room, but it must have really been savanah view because we could see all animals from our balcony. Could tell the first night that it was a good idea to make ADR for Boma later in the trip.

Day 2
Kennedy Space Center - It can be a whole day thing if you do everything. The Star Trek experience is corny but fun. The robot walk through was down, none of the animatronics were working and the audio was off... oh well. I definitely suggest doing the bus tour, at least visit the Saturn V rocket (second stop on the tour). What I enjoyed most about the day... our rental car, a 2010 Impala. Great compared to my ailing Crown Vic at home with the blown sparkplug, leaking radiator and non functioning AC.

Day 3
Universal - Tasted butter beer and waited 1.5 hours to get stuck on HP and slowly ride through with the lights on. We got a shot of flue powder sat in a midway tilt on the robo arm for another half hour while they "rebooted". We got a fast pass to be used anywhere *except the Forbidden Journey (that would make too much sense). There is a great Thai restaurant in a strip mall somewhere in Orlando, when I find the name I'll let you know.

Day 4
DTD - Disney Quest for the first time. I enjoyed it and so did my pregnant wife... all indoors and she could do everything except the Virtual Jungle Cruise. That brownie was chocolate overload. La Nouba was one of my top three favorite things on this trip. It was like watching a strange, beautiful dream. T-Rex was ok, I was actually more impressed with the food than the experience which was the opposite of what I expected.

To be continued... (the good stuff starts Day 5, Disney Parks)

Day 5
Magic Kingdom - Rode Space Mountain for the first time ever (don't know why I waited until I was 27 to do it). I love indoor coasters and this one is now one of my favorites. Also visited Tom Sawyer Island for the first time. My wife and I almost got killed at Phillharmagic, it is a difficult queue at the doors on a good day. For some reason there seemed to be many entitled people shoving during our visit. We stayed until the "Good Night Kiss", it was pretty special. A CM saw my wife and I standing there and said "It's something special, isn't it?" He was right.

Day 6
EPCOT - Experienced Captain EO for the first time. I enjoyed it, it was corny and who really believes MJ is a space captain with that voice? Cracks me up. We had dinner at Tokyo Dining and watched IllumiNations from the wrap around porch at Tokyo Dining, very nice view. AKL's poor transportation really showed tonight. There were 2 or 3 CSR buses for every 1 AKL (as was the case everywhere we went this trip). We stayed at CSR last year and let me tell you it does have the best transportation. One unhappy visitor asked the CSR driver when an AKL bus was coming, he was told "Every 15 minutes just like all the other resorts" (Yeah right)

Day 7
Animal Kingdom - It was a short day at AK, I agree with most that it is a half day park (even shorter if you've visited in the past year).

Day 8
Disney's Hollywood Studios - Had a great time at 50's Primetime, Cousin Mike was great, they're not just hosts/servers there, they are actors as well. We saw Beauty and the Beast for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Fantasmic was awesome that night. There was a storm in the background and the lightning played beautifully into the story. Due to that same storm we got to ride TSMM a few times right up to closing. This was the one time AKL's transportation was not the worst... when we left that night Pop Century's station was packed. The line went past two other stations, there were maybe 8 buses worth of people.

Final four days to come...
