$10 a day for internet?

I realize things at Disney don't come cheap, but does $10 for internet use for 24 hours sound rather steep? Would you be willing to use it?

For those who aren't up to date, some of the resorts have already set up high speed internet access in rooms, along with wireless capabilities in other locations. The cost to use the internet is $10 for 24 hours.

I personally wouldn't. I realize that is about what other hotels get, but in most cases those are business travelers who can expense it.

If you have a car there is a Kinkos on 435 - just take a left out at Crossroads, and it is in the plaza on the right after Palm Parkway. They have Internet Stations you can use.

.

exactly that is why they were put into the convention resorts, it is also outsourced to Smarty City so they are actually getting the money.

That's what the rate is over at Universal for their high speed service.

I know if you stay at several places off site, they give it to you for free.

I know how I love to check email and send photos from the day back home, but if you're there for several days... it's going to add up!

And using a dialup will run about the same. I remember last time we were there to stay on property to stay overnight (Jan) they said it would run more than $10 a day to use the phones for internet because they run by the call and minute.

Sometimes you have to ponder... a fun night out with drinks, or fast internet at the parks...

Hummmm.

I remember that at MK I saw phones that had internet service on them. I tried to connect to my email to send an email from MK, but wouldn't you know it? The phones were broken and wouldn't work. Sigh.

From my experience, that seems to be the going rate for broadband service at most hotels.

Well it's either included in the room rate or it's $10 a day.

If you don't agree with the cost, then don't use it,,, simple as that...

It is the going rate at hotels, I have seen (and paid) prices anywhere between $4.99 to $14.95 (Westin-Times Sq. NYC) for 24 hour access...

I tried the terminals in thje park but they were VERY slow and clunky.

$10.00 a day is a lot, I go on holiday to get away from the Internet anyway!

You go on vacation, you purposely leave your computer at home so you won't be tempted to check your e-amil, and by the second evening you get so paranoid about it that you drive around looking for an internet cafe or Kinkos just so you can look through two pages of spam.

And these computers were supposed to help us? By the way, for Cherrynegra - I have found that the extra jack in the phones almost never work right. you usually have to unplug the phone from the wall and plug your computer in directly. just remember to dial the 9 first on your computer!

The high speed service Disney offers isn't marketed to people on vacation. It's marketed towards people that are at the Disney Resorts and Conference centers for business conferences. They are there for a work related reason and have brought computers and pda's with them for work related purposes. That's why high speed internet and wireless access are only provided at resorts with conference centers. They or their company are willing to pay for the access to stay in touch with work, customers, or whatever.

On my last trip I checked my E-mail every night using the dial-up jack on the back of the phone. I keep my AOL account just for traveling and with a local number I had no extra charges.

Isn't it amazing how we get so obsessed to check E-mail or maybe the hot thread of the day on WDWMagic even when we are on vacation. :brick:

I know. E-mail is one of those addictions - you get worried that somehow you are going to miss something very important.

So they are only putting in high speed access in the business hotels? I thought they were working their way into all the hotels. Anyone know if they have and wireless hot points (whatever they call them) in any of the hotels?

I know believe that high speed is in all of the hotels. Also WiFi is in most hotel lobbies, conferance areas and lounges. This info can be found on the WDW web site.
