"10.5" Shakes Up Sweeps

The wanton destruction of the West Coast is bringing cheer to the hearts of NBC executives.

10.5, the Peacock's four-hour opus about a mega-quake that knocks over lattes from Seattle to Los Angeles, opened Sunday night with the best numbers for a network miniseries in more than two years.

The first two-hour installment averaged 20.7 million viewers, the seventh-most watched show for the prime-time week ended Sunday, per Nielsen Media Research.

NBC estimates 19.6 million caught Monday's concluding half.

10.5 starred Kim Delaney as a research scientist who--hang it all!--doesn't play by the rules, and Beau Bridges as the President who--hang it all again!--cares too much.

The miniseries' success helped lift NBC to a sweeping victory in the first leg of the May sweeps. The network topped CBS in total viewers, averaging 12.1 million to the Eyeball's 11.8 million, and it beat Fox for the demo crown among 18-to-49-year-olds.
