1 billionth guest?

I recently picked up the "Magical Year by Year Journey" book and in there was a little blurb about the 500-millionth guest. I looked like it happened in 1995 and there are more people coming to WDW now then there were 17 years ago so wouldn't the 1 billionth guest mark be coming up soon? Do you think they are still 'counting'? It seems like it would be something they would want to celebrate, but with so many turnstiles operating at potentially the exact same time how would they do it?

Sigh, all the unanswered questions of Disney...:)

The sign on the front of the train station still lists the MK's "population" as 800 million (and it has been so for at least 5 years), so they still have a ways to go.

You do know the billionth guest as with 500 million is just a guess.
They will have a way to pick a guest/family at random when they are close to a billion.

I believe yes WDW we have big ceremony and make it a big event.
The lucky winner will be very happen at being the billionth guest.

The billionth guest will be involved in a large ceremony where a person in a mouse suit will hand them 4 fastpasses to the Swiss Family Treehouse, a case of plain brown napkins and an informational video expelling the joys of DVC ownership.

I was hoping for Tiki Room myself - but beggars can't be choosers

The book I saw it in was just on WDW so I think the 500-million mark was also just for WDW.

That's interesting about the plaque on the train station, either I've never seen the plaque or just never paid any attention to it. I'll have to check it out next time I go.

My 'logic' for all of this was that if the 500-millionth guest was honored in 1995 (24 years after MK opened) then if attendance had stayed the same we can assume the 1 billionth guest would happen 48 years after MK opened, so 2019. Since attendance has increased since '95 I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that it will happen before 2019, which means it could be in the next couple years. It was late when I had the thought, what can I say :)
