“sold out” compared to previous “sold out” numbers

I take it the sold out numbers are not the same as the sold out numbers that only used to occur at MK on Xmas, NYE, 4th of July, etc…

That being said, anyone have any idea what the sold out numbers are currently at MK?

I have no idea what the maximum numbers are. However, I was just at WDW a couple weeks ago, when all four parks were supposedly at full capacity. There certainly weren't any reservations to be had. I have been to Magic Kingdom (all the other parks, really) when they seemed a Hell of a lot more crowded.
Other than some long lines of over an hour for many rides, and difficulty getting dining reservations, we had no real issues regarding crowds. No trouble getting on busses, almost no bumping into people and being herded like cattle in jam packed walkways like I've experienced in the past, pre-pandemic.
Personally, I think their maximum numbers have a lot more to do with the cost savings from not putting so many cast members on duty and therefore being paid vs. how much they would be losing from loss of ticket and food sales.

“Sold out” or “full capacity” is a completely arbitrary number that Disney creates using various data such as operating hours, entertainment, projected wait times, guest satisfaction, and adequate staffing. Maybe one day at mk it could be 55,000 and the next day it could be 70,000 (just making up numbers). It has nothing to do with fire codes or safety regulations. It’s whatever number they think is going to balance guest satisfaction/business results/operating efficiency.

^this. Eventually it hits a point where it’s costing more in cattle wrangling crowd control cast members and poor guest satisfaction numbers than it’s worth in sales.

What I don't understand if they aren't letting as many people in why does it seem so crowded?

We don't know if they are letting in less people.
It seems so crowded because so many people now just wander around and people are not always in a line or even caring to get in a line.
They gladly grab an instagramable snack and walk around taking pics of themselves in front of a sign... that matches their outfit of the day...
For example right now Space is only 20 minutes.... when did that used to happen?

Disney doesnt release any official numbers, but comparing how shoulder to shoulder photos show those past closed out holidays, it doesnt even come close in comparison. I welcome the new sold out park numbers whatever they may be. Give me some breathing space and room to enjoy the surroundings. Our "just after covid" trip when the numbers were still vary limited, we had as enjoyable a trip as we once had back in the 90s.
