Spirited News, Observations & Thoughts IV

Been following along this thread for a while. Lots of pointless bickering. NGE is a real concern that mirrors society at large. I fear larger issues are being drowned in meaningless noise. Always follow the money. Billions of dollars being spent on NGE clearly isn't for the benefit of making FP...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

I don't dispute that at all. It's what keeps me coming back to the parks as opposed to spending my entertainment dollars elsewhere. It's the curse and blessing of Disney... that we expect so much-- which is good! It means we care and want to see improvement rather than pulling up the stakes...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Ramblings I can never understand why the parks AREN'T painted nightly. Paint is cheap! Refurbs are expensive! Maybe the next time I'm at a park, if I see something like the DLP wall, I will ask for the attractions manager and ask them point blank, "Why hasn't this been taken care of?"...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Ah, I was simply referring to the same two castles in the sense of Multiple incarnations of the Disneyland castle (Hong Kong/California) and the Magic Kingdom castle (Florida/Tokyo). And, yes, the "Disney Parks" logo is bland.

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Brand homogenization and Disney I have always hated outside brands in the parks. To me, it smacks of the easy way out. Why take the time to create an elaborate story and theme when you can just plop down a McDonalds? Although I'm not blind to the fact that Disneyland had to lean heavily...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Ah, but the more Ferrari pushes their brand and their merchandise, the more they lose their allure and luster with me. Most Ferrari cars still make my head turn, but increasingly the branding is leaving me with a sour taste. At what point will Ferrari lose their racing soul? Ferrari bean...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

I wondered if work had been done for the 15th, which is still being celebrated BTW. Shades of Million Dreams? Ah, but for something that was tossed in quickly, the queue was pretty detailed. Usually when you get a rush job, it's the immersive environment that suffers first. I suppose this...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Disneyland Paris reaction Eddie-- I have recently returned from Europe and was able to visit the Disneyland Paris resort for two days during my travels. The days attended were on a Tuesday and a Thursday in the same week. I thought you would be interested in my take on "your baby". It was...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Bond and retail The part that attracts me immediately about the Aston dealership is how the ceiling above the revolving car seems to mimic the inside of the PPK gun barrel. The earlier Bond movies started the movie with that small circle window into the world of Bond, which always drew me in...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Merchandise, continued. What is the draw then? WHat is going to compel people to shop at a store in the parks that is a fancier version of Wal-Mart? Shouldn't there be a lure, whether it's the $750 statues that '74 referenced, or my $XXX Ariel lamp that brings people in the stores? AND...

Eddie Sotto's take on the current state of the parks

Merchandising While I'm probably a hardcore fan of Disney, my house has only two Disney items on display. A vintage Fantasyland 20k attraction poster and a very heavy copper lamp of Ariel thematically decorated in a Jules Verne style with a green sea glass shade. Why is that? Quite simply...
