Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

I agree 100% which is why accommodations should be made based on each case for developmental disabilities. Just being diagnosed with "autism" doesn't mean someone requires accommodations. Some autistic people absolutely do.

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

My mother in law is raising my autistic nephew so I do talk to people who live this. My wife and I have also taken him to water parks and non Disney amusement parks. Getting triggered by things and acting out doesn't necessarily mean a person "can't" wait on a normal standby line. It might make...

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

When they are at Disney (or any place away from home/school), they are not following their normal pattern. They are in a hotel room, eating in different places, using different bathrooms. You can't say that their pattern is that that they must embark on an attraction within 15 minutes of...

Now we're going down the slippery slope to unreasonable accommodations. Are you saying that this Autistic person is always near all members of their family outside of WDW?

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

The wording of the ADA is that a public accommodation (Disney Parks in this case) can not discriminate against somebody due to their disability. It is clear that if Disney decided to make it so a person in a wheelchair could not access an attraction that it would be considered discriminating...

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

I think the permanent bans are targeted at the "tour guides" and then to act as a deterrent for somebody that doesn't really need DAS and might not try to get it if there is a chance they could end up banned for life.

Or they talked to a random CM at the entrance and decided that they got permission "from Disney."

Disney has in house lawyers that are paid a salary. Giving them something to do gives Disney more value for their money. Of course, they'll use outside counsel for major lawsuits if they need to.

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

There is very little chance this is true and approximately a zero chance if the guide didn't pay Disney a fee. Why would Disney ever give permission? They sell their own tours so it's not like somebody offering something that Disney didn't offer. Vail resorts prohibit ski/snowboard instructors...

    Summer-like temperatures this weekend

I'm not sure what it says about people when it is necessary to remind people to hydrate when it is hot outside which should be instinctual. This is not a criticism of your reminder. There are definitely a lot of people who need to be reminded.

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

The actual wording is that they can't discriminate against people with disabilities and that they have to provide equal access as someone without a disability. The way it is worded leaves it very open to interpretation by the judiciary about what they actually have to do with respect to...

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

Just to clarify for the discussion, "full and equal enjoyment" does not mean "enjoy the parks" from an emotional standpoint, it is a legal term. From the Cornell Law School, "Enjoyment, in a legal context, has several related meanings; but generally, it means “to exercise a right.” The way the...

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

If the person can't stand in a queue, Disney could provide a wheelchair so they can sit in the queue. As I posted dozens of pages back, I have a nephew with autism who is towards the severe end of the spectrum. Waiting in a long standby line will likely lead to him acting out, very possibly...

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

So, as I ate lunch, I attempted to read the relevant section of the ADA. I've determined that laws are worded as unclearly as possible so that the lawmakers can shirk responsibility for the laws they pass and dump it on judges to "legislate from the bench" and then complain that judges do that...

Rumor New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

It wouldn't be AS MUCH of a problem. There will still be people who think they are entitled to free front of line access and will access the DAS system under false pretenses.

Well it depends on your reference point! They increased capacity an infinite amount when they reopened after COVID. That's a mathematical fact!

I don't think you need to explain anything here. The only people you need to explain to are the ones approving DAS for your daughter. You aren't the one abusing the system that caused this whole mess.

Agree. Unless you make the line skip very expensive it can never work as a premium experience. At the current prices they have to sell too many of them to make it work as a real line skip.

I would hope so since the situation @Section106 describes is pretty much what something like DAS would be designed to provide an accommodation for. This isn't some borderline case of a mild psychological disorder that will cause a kid to get annoying in a line.
