    Hurricane Irma

I have a question please.. my family & friends are worrying me because they say if we leave on Friday morning to head up to AofA, there is a very big chance we could get stuck on the turnpike and get caught in the storm. Our reservations are for Friday night and the storm is expected to hit the...

    Hurricane Irma

I'm hoping we stay calm and even if it takes a little longer, we arrive safely. I don't mind "reporting" from the scene as long as we have power and I'm not too rattled :jawdrop:

I've been reading the posts.. thank you to everyone who is offering sound advice and support. I've been busy packing while hubby is out trying to get some last minute supplies.

    Hurricane Irma

We were actually out on a cruise ship at sea when Charlie struck, so I don't have much recollection of it. We have a Lion's King Suite booked so I'm just hoping everything works out for the best. I'll be terribly worried about the family that stays behind here... they're even closer to the ocean...

    Hurricane Irma

Disney is only about 180 miles north of us.. but more in the middle of the state. Would 180 miles of land make a big enough impact on Irma to weaken her?

    Hurricane Irma

We're scheduled to leave Friday morning. That's the earliest we can get out because we need to be home for the people to finish boarding it up.

No worries at all! :) I am so grateful for all the insight everyone is offering us. But yes, this Disney trip is an evacuation location for us.

    Hurricane Irma

Our house was built in 1980 with CBS walls and covered with stucco. Our roof is old and has a 4'x4' skylight. We lost the skylight once already. But, if memory serves correctly, our walls would be similar to AofA.

    Hurricane Irma

Living through hurricanes sharpens your senses, to be sure. Thanks so much! :) Yes! I do remember how AofA was built! Thanks Andrew :) I wonder how the hotel doors will work if there's a loss of power?

    Hurricane Irma

My gut is saying go to Disney.. my daughter and her family want to ride it out. I wish they would reconsider :( We have no window. Cancellation is 5 days out according to what we were told. We will forfeit our deposit if we choose to stay home.

Do you happen to remember... are AofA rooms off an interior hallway? I'm thinking they are?

The roads heading up north here are already congested. There's no where to go (for us) out of state. No hotel availability and no where to really drive to. You have to have a return plan in place and the farther you go the more difficult it is to get back.

    Hurricane Irma

I've been checking west coast Georgia hotels for 2 days.. I can't find any availability. And if you drive too far, it makes it very hard to get back (downed trees, flooding, no gas). I can understand that 21stamps, honestly I can.

    Hurricane Irma

The house is half boarded right now with the rest of it being completed this afternoon. We have batteries, water, etc.. as I mentioned, we've been through a few hurricanes before. But this one just rattles me :( Food, generators, extra water are all sold out.

Palm Beach County, 9 miles inland from the ocean's shore. All of your points are very well stated.

    Hurricane Irma

But it isn't that easy, sadly. Look at Florida.. where would you go? There is no where to go.
