News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I think there is too much emphasis on accuracy for the lands. They are meant to represent ideas (fantasy, adventure, tomorrow) rather than be temporal and spatially accurate models of real places.

News Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Is there any expectation that the underground tunnel systems is also expanded for this new part of the park, or would that be too difficult with existing layout?

News Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

I don't have an answer for this, but I think this brings up a good question on whether this would mean a new train stop could be introduced for a Villains Land. That would be another fun opportunity to introduce some cool themed elements.

News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I don't really have a preference one way or another of whether they keep the ROA/TSI. Although, thematically, it would make sense to have to cross a river of some sort to venture into the wilderness. Keeping a shortened river (and thinner as well) from Big Thunder to Haunted Mansion queue with a...

News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I've always wondered if there was a limit to the availability of employees to staff whole new expansion lands, etc. Perhaps Disney has experienced staff shortages and hiring slowdowns and knows that they don't have an unlimited supply of cast members, thus they opt for shifting them around...

News Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I think the key to making this Cars area fit into the Frontierland theme is to have some tall a** trees, big a** rocks, and cool a** waterfalls. I don't know how feasible that will be when it opens, and it may take some years before the trees grow into it but that will help make it feel like a...

    New themed pavement in Adventureland?

Love the new pavement - makes more sense for the area than generic paving. I wonder how it handles in rain, and whether it is safer for folks walking around if it has more grip.

Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

That's because deep down the discourse is actually about whether or not you are okay with change.

Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

Agreed. If I just wanted a carbon copy of the movie, I could just sit at home and watch it. It is a lot more fun to experience something new on the attractions.

Well we agree on something - lack of knowledge is destructive...

Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

Like I said, in a private space between friends and family, we can understand the context of jokes, but for a business or for a public setting like a theme park aimed to children, it makes perfect sense to remove offensive references rather than hoping people get it. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

Although we are far removed from it, I think it's worth noting that jokes and stereotypes of Natives (and Poles) helped to justify and give a pass to real-life discrimination and genocide. Although you may be okay with a Pollock joke, my ancestors probably would not have appreciated being...

Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

You may need to reread what I posted. I was not talking at all about the ride. I was responding on someone who had shared images of Natives to prove a point. Just trying to provide some context on the subject so this conversation wouldn't devolve into further stereotypes. I think a lot of...

Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

By no means was I meaning to look down on those photos shared. I just wanted to provide some interesting context on how Natives are often portrayed through imagery. Small plug to enjoy the great indigenous artists out there!

Changes to Peter Pan's Flight at Magic Kingdom

The photos you cite, and many of the ones most Americans have in their mind of what Natives look like, are often a heavily romanticized view of Native life and weren't accurate to the time they were taken. The most famous example of this is by the photographer Edward Curtis, a non-Native. This...

News Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

That fireworks fallout area (shaded in orange) can't be built on I assume? Any chance they move that to a new area to make way for expansion?

News Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

I would love it if the expansion extended all the way around to where Gaston's Pub is. That area would be perfect for a naturally themed connection point between Fantasyland and Villain's Land. Going through a haunted forest of sorts.
