Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

It has crossed $715M worldwide and has now surpassed ‘Dune: Part Two’ to become the 6th highest grossing film of 2024. What a run for a film with such a sluggish opening. Stumbled across this yesterday. It’s well known TLK is #1, but TLK 2 being on this list without a theatrical release is...

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

Looks like it’s going to have enough left in the tank to pass Dune 2’s $715M and become 6th highest grossing of 2024. Still pulling off nearly $2M domestic weekends. Incredible legs

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

I think the online hate would be slightly less, for sure. But in general it's just an inferior version still, even with the minor additions it attempted. It needed to change up more with the story, not add useless scenes (extra scenes with Simba/Timon/Pumbaa and grubs) and remove important ones...

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

According to some inside reports, Disney has no interest in remaking Simba's Pride or any other direct to video films. Looking like the next film will be an original story, which is what I prefer. If anything Mufasa and the future film is an example of what they should be doing with these films...

It would've been silly for theaters to drop Mufasa before Sonic - and they were smarter than that. Sonic had the run of an MCU film. It had a giant fan rush at the start, then it dies down because what is left is just the general audience, who don't have as much of an interest in Sonic. It’s not...

It isn’t even a debate anymore, $700M is pretty much certain with great both the domestic and OS holds are. Just a question now of how far can it go.

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

250 domestic seems to be nearly a lock at this point, which that alone would bring it over 630+. Another 70 from OS shouldn't be out of reach to let it squeak by 700. should have enough left in the tank with the fantastic holds it has been having.

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

Another film is in the works. lol. But reportedly NOT a sequel to Mufasa. Wonder what it'll be. So…. Mufasa WAS a success. Even before the box office run finished.

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

"I'm not going to pay attention to these very real numbers because I don't like them." Yes. Crossing 540 at this pace indicates it will come very close to 700. That's how box office projection/tracking works. They use historical data. Historical data of previous box office runs indicates it...

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

$540M. Yeah, looking like it'll leg out and sniff $700M. 100%. It is very well known that prequels aren't as strong at the box office. Even David A. Cross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research made a statement on Mufasa's opening. “Audiences like the movie, and...

Theater closures around the US really starting to show up on the dailies for all films Friday. A lot of big markets closed bc of the wildfires and snow storms. But, also hearing it was the slowest Friday in months. We’ll see how the films hold out this weekend.

Disney’s Mufasa - the lion king

All I know is there are experienced analysts out there saying that it'll flirt with the $700M mark when all is said and done. I'm not going to lie, (if it's not already clear) I am biased, was a huge fan of everything Lion King growing up and still am today. It's why I was over the moon hearing...
