Yes, I think you get to the heart of the matter. DL's façade is iconic. And for some reason, every Disney fan can pinpoint and name Mary Blair. (But not, for example, the railroad guy). At DL the ride is presented as a major event rather than as one among several indoor Fantasyland rides. In...

Transformative Multi-Year Expansion Announced for WDS Paris

That still looks like the office area on the outskirts of every 50k/100k West European city. Which setting did you choose for your theme park? 'Slough, Tuesday morning in November'.

No sarcasm. My sincere opinion. I did deliberately use two older photos. The MK was the vastly improved version of DL. But time hasn't been kind on it. I struggle to name even a handful of aspects that have not been greatly reduced over time. Meanwhile, much of DL, despite also being ravaged in...

Everything in Tokyo is just better operated and presented. It's a good picture with nice saturated colours, but just look at the beautiful state of everything. Popping colours, train and balloon overhead, superb lighting, everything fresh and looking like the place opened two weeks ago.

Japan Trip Booked - Your Recommendations or Advice?

You could stay 'off-site', especially if you stay within walking distance of station along the Keiyō Line. Last trip I stayed a short walk away from the Shin-Urayasu Station, one stop / four minutes from Maihama, TDL station. Lots of great value hotels in this area. It’s all very straightforward...

MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

I very well named myself after a lost WDW paddle wheel steamboat, no false nostalgia here. For me the loss of the river and its boats and island, and above all its very feel, hits as hard as MS being transformed into Zootopia or San Fransokyo or something.

I like Bug, but I decry its loss mostly for the loss of DAK'd thematic cohesion and no more inclusion of bugs in an animal park. Creepy crawlers in the hidden spaces in the soil at a tree's roots are just a good fit. Zootopia doesn't belong in DAK whatsoever.

Indy and Dindy are as much the same thing as Small World and Pirates, or Mansion and Buzz.

Are they serious? I enjoyed the Muppets as much as anyone else, but for me they are the very epitome of an IP that can come and go when its time is up. Not sure what caused their sudden beatification in Orlando. I am also one of the few who thinks Dinosaur and Indy are very close. With just a...

Do you take new items left outside someone else's room?

Looking back, I should have said 'in a mug in the food court at the All Stars', then hack the security cameras and watch the carnage unfold. Or at least see a few hopefuls checking mugs, trying to go unnoticed. ("you never know...") Hmm...maybe worth a try on that other forum I frequent...

Highly subjective indeed! We’re all entitled to our little preferences, frankly often biased and nostalgia-driven. Just trying to breathe some life in an interesting yet strangely dormant thread to get it off the ground.

DL is superb. Right now, easily better than the MK. But not in every aspect, nor at every or even most times since 1971. Main Street feels more alive, less plastic and photopass dominated. Last trip it took me until 2pm to leave Town Square. Fantasyland, like you say, is so good with all those...

Do you take new items left outside someone else's room?

I guess this thread is as good a place as any: I'm flying home tonight. As a European, dollars are useless to me, can't take them with me. I'm leaving $1138 in cash in a closed resort mug outside my room at the Polynesian, room number 19-28. First come, first serve.

I've never understood why such a large part of Disney fandom insists the bottom picture is more attractive. Plain nostalgia? DL snobbery? Jealousy of the newborn, handsomer sibling? I wish they had left the MK version well alone, or updated it according to its strengths rather than its...

Florida's IASW is obviously superior for two reasons: - the MK façade is the best SW façade. At DL, IaSW is an afterthought, a latecomer. Tucked away in an empty backcorner of the park, it's own thing. At the MK, ASW (already the fourth different abbreviation I've used so far!) is fully...

The Real Genius of Tower of Terror

The most common verdict about Eisner is, very succinctly, positive until 1994, negative afterwards. Even with ToT the difference is clear. DHS ToT is a product of the first decade. DCA/WDSP of the second.

MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Everybody loves a long trip to Europe pretending (even to yourself) to do important stuff sipping on a coffee, staring at a building. For DAK, the research trip mentality got so dominant that the park ended up looking the 'Africa and Asia backpacking experience' park. They themed the park after...

MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

These images are great on screen. Perhaps on ride. But they translate poorly into a 3d environment. Guest are walking in thick crowds in 100 degrees sun, not alone in a dark, cold, rainy forest at midnight. Black, oddly shaped leaveless fake vegetation as far as the eye can see is also neither...
