Why does Disney charge so much?

There are many reasons to the high prices at Disney Hotels/Villas. But you don't have to pay them. I used to stay onsite for every trip we made in the earl 2000's. Now I am much wealthier and in my 40's, but I have no desire to pay so much for so little value. We had a fantastic time in 2018...

News Splash Mountain retheme to Princess and the Frog - Tiana's Bayou Adventure

The worst part is we won't have Ernest to test out the retheme.

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

My main argument for Mr. Rowe and others who use the "car accident" comparison/analogy is that with Covid we do not need to resign to the fact that hundreds of thousands of people will die from this virus. There is a way to effectively control the cases to a bare minimum and restart a...

Who should be excluded to help with the overcrowding problem.

These comments are great, I've never started a "7 pager" before. My OP was only meant to be somewhat smart-alieky. I just want people who pine for the "old days" of empty nights and light Sept-Feb. to consider that they too are people taking up space at a theme park and keep coming back and...

Who should be excluded to help with the overcrowding problem.

Yeah , I used to pull my kids out of school for the "light" winter crowds. That ship has sailed.

Who should be excluded to help with the overcrowding problem.

The prices are pretty much getting me there at this point. And please end your post with a nice "zinnng" at the end.

Who should be excluded to help with the overcrowding problem.

It seems like 2 of the top issues discussed on these forums is cost and overcrowding. I am legitimately interested in how WDW would combat the latter. If capacity is not improved (which it seems like it won't to the point where it would be beneficial) then the only other option to the...

What Defined the Decade at WDW?

Harry Potter difined the decade - or Universal focusing on making a magical theme park while Disney used theme park (and movies) revenue to gobble up media franchises.

    WDW Favorite Attraction Bracket Polls-Round #1-Group #1 of 8

I liked voting for 5- I didn't have to sweat what to place #1, #2, #3 etc. Looking at how UP! performed, I wonder if it would not be to bleak to later vote on the worst overall attraction. Up! Bird adventure is by far my #1 wasted Fastpass of all time.

High prices makes trip planing easier

Has anyone else come to the realization that the increased prices of the last 10 years has actually made trip planning easier? My wife and I used to be once a year (starting in 1999) visitors, then every other year or less with as we added 4 kids. We always planned a budget and then crammed...

Experience of staying off-site vs. on-site

We stayed offsite at the Caribe Royale. I left a review for it somewhere on this site. It was 5 minutes to HS and Epcot, 10 to magic and 15ish to AK. We drove our van from IL (Griswold style ftw). Parking and traffic were a breeze and this was the start of the busy summer- early June. The only...

2 parents - 3 kids.. stroller logistics help!

You might also want to consider a stroller board- it attaches to the back of the stroller and has a seat or bigger kids- it might be too heavy to push with a double stroller but would eliminate the need for a second separate stroller.

Which Disney ride do you think will get the axe next?

I'm going to go with Carousel of Progress. There has been no attempt to update/renovate in over 25 years. I know it was considered "untouchable" due to Walt's fondness of it, however I would bet it gets closed within the next 2-3 years and not reopened anything like the current attraction.

WDW is way better now than it was at the beginning of the decade.

I agree that much has improved this decade- however I think overall the resort is so big, it is too hard to maintain the high quality levels of the past. Think of how a bad a park can get while waiting for a new ride/land to open. We were at the world 2 weeks b4 Toy Story Land opened and HS was...

ok, all you Punxsutaweny Phils of Disney world, what's your prediction for the future of WDW?

I seriously think that OP is on to something with selling off the parks- Yes they are a cash cow, but with all the media corporations and intellectual licensing Disney is/has purchased, it seems like movies and streaming are the future. -The parks would still be under the Disney name, just run...

News Coronado Springs Expansion - Gran Destino Tower

The Downtown Disney you "used to know and love"? Pleasure Island? The Sosa Cigar shop? Disneyquest? You fell in love with Pleasure Island? DisneyQuest? Sosa Cigars? That overpriced movie memorabilia store? Come on, those places can't hold a handle to the Edison, Jack Lindsey's, and the fun of...

    Insanity Pricing Officially Reached

It's like Disney thinks it can ride the attendance wave forever with no repercussions. I live in Peoria, IL and just witnessed Caterpillar go from making profits hand over fists up until 2016 to now when they have laid off nearly 10,000 white collar jobs and moving the headquarters to a Chicago...

    Insanity Pricing Officially Reached

We stayed offsite last year after 11 onsite trips. We enjoyed much more than we thought. Stayed at the Caribe Royale which would be about equivalent to a moderate room but with DVC space. Spent less than $200 per night including parking at the resort and at Disney. I'm not sure if we'll ever...

How much $ is to much $ to charge for stuff.

We stayed offsite last year after 12+ trips onsite. Saved us $4000+ (we are a group of 7 now). Spent most of that savings on Potter souvenirs, but also some on Disney. Still finished the trip under budget.

Travel agents? Are they worth going through?

If this is your first trip to WDW or it's been a long time, then a travel agent could be a benefit just help narrow down hotels and dining. I would also highly recommend a WDW travel guide book or app, such as Passporter just to give some hints and ideas for what to expect with buses, how big...
