    General Star Wars Discussion

It's interesting that years ago people would have said the opposite. Personally, I rank Revenge of the Sith as one of the top 3 SW movies of all time. It delivered on what everyone had wanted to see for 20 years. It had the jedi purge, the epic ObiWan/Anakin duel, the rise of the Empire and...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

Somehow put Han and Luke together in a movie set between ROTJ and TFA and everyone should be happy again. You can sense that with the deaging of Hamil in Mando and Ford in Indy5, it's what they're working on.

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

I was a little confused. Are you saying that younger generations are more likely to be "kinder" in their reviews than older ones who compare it to yesteryear? In other words, where older generations might find TROS as trampling on Anakin's legacy, younger generations may not care? Or is it the...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

More than would a movie with a 50% audience score? Maybe? I'm not so sure it matters who remembers anything 5 years later. Things just don't last long at all so who remembers anything for that long. Nobody has an attention span past 5 minutes. You say the movie was atrocious. But the score is...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

What's interesting is that despite the polarizing TLJ, there is STILL an 86% audience score for The Rise of Skywalker. The movie we hear the most about on the internet and the one that, according to social media, is the most horrible and disreputable SW content of all time, still comes close to...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

It's not that fans don't want to like SW. It's that there is a very narrow spectrum of material that they would like. And if something doesn't fit that spectrum, they hate it.

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

I'll argue that the same SW content that is getting 27% audience score now would have gotten around a 60-70% score ten years ago. No way to prove that but I stand by my convictions.

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

It is just a sad reality that anything that comes out from SW/LFL will already automatically have a heavy bias against it. One of if not THE most popular franchise can only produce titles that already have swarms of people ready to attack it without giving any benefit of the doubt. The...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

Most people? Really? I thought most people were just fans. If what you say is true, I would hope that we'd get more story ideas than just complaining about what is out there.

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

Actually saying things like "the stories suck" is a cop out when those saying it cannot string together what a good story would be. Nobody sets out to make a bad story or one that is poorly received. NOBODY. Everyone thinks that their story is good. I never read anyone suggesting they should...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

29% audience rating is just stupid. No other way to describe it. Either it's massive review bombing or testament to the fact that if something SW isn't absolutely considered perfect, it gets blasted by fans. It actually reads that SW really does not have any hope for recovery whatsoever.

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

Not that it apparently matters, but Acolyte is at 94% for critics and 41% for audience. It IS interesting that back in 2017, people would just assume it figures because TLJ was "different" and "artistic" so critics liked it, but it also spat in the face of those who had loved the OT3 for so long...

    Star Wars: The Acolyte

But will it? TLJ, whether you like it or not, created that fault line (I agree with you) based on what it was perceived to do to the very integrity of what SW is or was. I'm not sure yet if the Acolyte will do that or if it just tramples on people's political "values".

    SPOILER: The Acolyte -- Disney+ Star Wars -- begins June 5, 2024

Exactly. I think we should be well beyond being concerned about what this guy is concerned about. A LOT of hyperbole. But yeah certain types of people will have problems with it no matter how it is portrayed. It's not as much of a problem with SW as it is with a divide in society that has become...
