News Return of the Walt Disney World tram fleet tracker

I think it’s completely inexcusable that tram service hasn’t been returned to the TTC. Even from ‘close’ parking spots it’s still a decent walk. It makes for a horrible first impression, and at the end of a long day a bad last one as well. The other parks, well… Entrance ‘improvements’ pushing...

News Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser coming to Walt Disney World 2021

Top google search result for “Star Wars Cruise” links to… Disney cruise lines. Hmm. Top google search result for “Star Wars Hotel”… oh look, I get “galactic starcruiser adventure”

News Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser coming to Walt Disney World 2021

I’m looking at the buttons on the control panel. A handful of things to press and a joystick of some sort. Is the ‘bridge experience’ going to wind up being something on-rails like the Falcon? Everyone gets their handful of actual controls to press that don’t really *do* much of anything?

News Disney KiteTails coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom October 1

I look at those huge kites and the beating they are already taking and wonder… how long did they expect to get out of a set of them? Did they have backups or are they unique? Just dumping them on the bleachers or in the water half a dozen times a day like that can’t be good for keeping those...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

I think that one of my biggest problems is that there is no creatively in the tech. Sure, it’s got a lot of things to look at, but it’s not breaking any new ground or reimagining the way the tech is used. There no inferno barge, no Earth barge opening up to reveal a hidden torch, no hundreds...

The World's Most Magical Celebration - Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary

There were really only two ‘surprises’ all week... the plussing to the EWP, and the new Monorail lighting (which must have been kept pretty well under wraps, that was a total surprise). Everything else was pretty much as advertised, which considering how thin the plan was is definitely a...

News 'Disney Enchantment' coming to Magic Kingdom October 1 2021

*The* world leader in visual entertainment, with endless technical resources and access to some of the most talented technicians and artists working today.... can't produce a simple live stream.

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

I actually feel that you could produce an amazing and inspiring show with the hardware. This show is not that. The screens are tragically underutilized. The content is circa 2005 jumpback loops layered with some animation cells that inexplicably, don't animate very much. This from the company...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

Hot takes: -For all the hype about vocals in many languages, the show at it's most effective and moving during the instrumental moments. The vocals slow down the pacing. A lot. The show drags. -For all the hype about the tech, the show pulled not one single technologically impressive surprise...

News 'Disney Enchantment' coming to Magic Kingdom October 1 2021

And to think, between this show and Harmonious most would have bet on this being the sure thing. It takes talent to disappoint with a MK fireworks show. There might have been some weak moments in the 'party special' shows over the years, but the regular shows - FitS, Wishes, HEA... have never...

Coronavirus and Walt Disney World general discussion

I’m not especially mad, because I always assumed there would at least be annual boosters for a time. I will be sort of confused, though. After my vasovagal reaction to the J&J, my doctor advised that if it turned out a booster was recommended to not repeat the J&J and jump to one of the...

News 'Disney Enchantment' coming to Magic Kingdom October 1 2021

In comparing the finales, it seems to me that while DE may appear to have a smaller total shell count, it uses a bunch more of the ‘larger’ iconic peony / willow shells that completely fill the sky. In context, this might turn out more impressive then a finale barrage of salutes and smaller...

News Walt Disney World to resume sales of Annual Passes (New sales resume April 20, 2023)

I don’t disagree. But they set a precedent and they weren’t met with much push-back. Translating that revenue stream over when it became obvious park reservations were staying as the new normal was only a matter of time.

News Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance to begin Standby September 23rd

There's been a lot of 'rather last minute' around Disney lately. Of course, that could be said for the world at large the last 2 years. I'm no insider, but years of observing Disney operationally leads me to a gut feeling there's a perfect storm brewing around the Genie rollout. I wouldn't be...

News Walt Disney World to resume sales of Annual Passes (New sales resume April 20, 2023)

We've had no-show penalties for table service reservations for years now, haven't we?

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

I believe some of the Uttara-Kuru tracks from the RoE pre-show list (“Our Life” definitely, maybe also “Winter Dance”) are also part of the pavilion BGM loop, and have been for some time.

News Expedition Everest refurbishment in 2022

If you took away all the details that only a fraction of guests consciously connect with, you wouldn’t have much of AK left.

News Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser coming to Walt Disney World 2021

My read on this, and I might be wrong, is that this is less of a ‘director’ and more of a ‘show caller / stage manager’ sort of position. It’s running crew, not creative direction.

News Walt Disney World to resume sales of Annual Passes (New sales resume April 20, 2023)

I just think it’s funny that when my pass was active, it was completely hit or miss if I’d get a timely email (or one at all!) about pass holder events or opportunities… but oh hey D wants me back in and I get two emails within an hour of passes going live.
