News Disney removing plastic straws and more by mid-2019

I thought they did have them for events already. I have a couple from MNSSHP in 2011, but I can't remember if they were sold in the parks or something I picked up as a CM. I think we bought them, but it's been a while and I'm still buried under a mountain of merch I bought back then.

News Disney removing plastic straws and more by mid-2019

Dang. If I'd seen this one, I might've gone for it. It's like they took all of my favorite characters and put them on one bag. If I could just swap Cinderella for Pocahontas it would be perfection - and it gets bonus points for managing to not be pink.

    Items I need to purchase

I'd get a portable power bank to keep your phone charged. I have a smaller, lightweight Mimoco one with a Star Wars design and a larger, slightly heavier, Anker Powercore one. With all the FastPass searching, wait time checking, and photo-taking I do during the day, my phone would be dead by...

News Disney removing plastic straws and more by mid-2019

I don't actually know, sorry. When she asked, I thought she said $9.95 which seemed ridiculous, but for sanity's sake I'm hoping I misheard and it was something more reasonable.

News 2018 Epcot Food and Wine Festival

It's like Christmas in July! Now I can finally start planning my food/drink stops for my Epcot day. I'm going to spend so much money.

    News Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2018

Yes, tell us more! I hadn't seen the parade since 2011 before I watched the Disney Parks live stream last fall and I was a little disappointed in the changes made since then. I still listen to the parade music every October and I'm finally getting to return for MNSSHP for the first time since then.

News Disney removing plastic straws and more by mid-2019

I'm curious about how the bag thing will play out. I was just at my local Disney store and the CM who rang me up said that the company as a whole has gone bag-free. No paper. No plastic. Nothing. I was kind of caught off guard because I'd heard that the timeframe wasn't until next year, but...

For those who drive to WDW or rent a car how often do you go off site?

We always drove for two reasons: airfare for 6 people would've made our trips prohibitively expensive and most WDW resorts couldn't accommodate 6 people (this was in the '90s) without paying for suites or two rooms so we'd haul our camper and stay at Fort Wilderness. Every few trips, we'd do a...

What was the best part of your last trip??

My last trip was in March. I got to meet up with friends I'd worked with at Splash Mountain 12 years ago and seeing them and spending time with their families was amazing. We only had two days, so we park hopped and relaxed knowing that we couldn't possibly do everything since we only had half a...

    Dining reservation booking site down

For the last 3 days, I haven't been able to get the official WDW site to load to make dining reservations. I tried on one computer using Chrome and IE and another one using Chrome, IE, and Edge, and I've used 3 different wifi networks now. I got it to load once on my phone's Chrome browser, but...

Dumbest Thing You've Heard a Guest Say

Getting off of Splash Mountain and walking up to the CM at the exit near the photo screens. "How do I know which picture is mine?" "Well, ma'am, it's the one with you in it." "But how do I know which one I'm in?" "Look for your face?"

Taking a break in the day back to the hotel. Pros and Cons

Based on your calculations, the shortest travel distance to the All Stars is still almost 20 minutes away, and that's a generous calculation based on my experience there. That's not really what I'd consider to be close. The Contemporary is close to the MK, DAKL is close to DAK, Boardwalk is...

Taking a break in the day back to the hotel. Pros and Cons

As of my last All Star stay, they still share bus routes during slower times like the afternoon, which will easily add 10-15 minutes to each leg of the trip. And just because the All Stars are closer to a couple of parks than the Contemporary doesn't mean that they're actually close to anything.

Are the dining plans cost effective?

I put a lot of thought into this when I booked my last big WDW trip. I even had a spreadsheet to calculate things out. I concluded that if we ordered everything that came with the dining plan for every meal (drinks, food, desserts, etc) we'd save money by being on the DDP. However, looking at...

Would you prefer a larger shower and no tub?

Bigger shower. I've been traveling M-F for work most weeks for the last 5 years and all that time in hotels has proven to me that I do not want to sit in a tub used by who knows how many people that may or may not have actually been cleaned since the last guest. Even at Pop Century two trips...

Taking a break in the day back to the hotel. Pros and Cons

We used to go every summer and never did breaks. When we were little, if we needed a nap, my mom would lay the stroller seat back and we'd sleep right there. She wasn't into the big rides, so she'd just find a bench in the shade somewhere or browse through stores and wait for my dad to take the...

Please help me pick which park!

When are you going? If your trip is after the Toy Story area opens at Hollywood Studios, I'd pick that. If it's in the next couple of months, I'd go with AK because HS is barely a half-day park now and 3 of the main rides have height requirements. I think the Toy Story stuff will appeal more to...

Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

I think it would still do reasonably well. The Buzz Lightyear still does consistently well at the MK after all these years. Plus, when I visited DLP in 2016, the Toy Story area, though small, was my favorite part of both parks there. There's so much potential for theming and photo ops in the...

News Typhoon Lagoon nighttime ticketed event begins this summer

It sounds kind of cool, but the Toy Story characters seem out of place. I'm assuming that's related to the Toy Story area opening this summer, but characters like Lilo and Stitch or Moana would be much better suited if they have to tie IPs in. They already do after-hours events at Typhoon and...
