News Tron coaster coming to the Magic Kingdom

Kind of thought of something during my last trip that I think had been in my head going back a few years, but I hadn't quite found the words until recently: it sometimes feel like modern Disney management (you can go back a couple decades on this if you want to) tends to forget that the entirety...

Journey of Water featuring Moana coming to Epcot

Really is, isn't it? Captures that old feeling that a lot of EPCOT Center felt like it used to, a more leisurely pace if you wanted it, the main hub capturing a bit of a feel of a town square with elements of a nearby park. Miss that feeling.

Rumor Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

Seriously, it's astounding how poorly the aesthetic that was in circa mid-90s/early 00s has aged, not just in Disney but in pop culture in general. Every generation of aesthetics has something about it people aren't exactly eager to bring back (e.g. the strange color palettes of the 70s, some of...

News Future World confirmed to be split into 3 neighborhoods

It's funny, but I feel like a lot of how I end up feeling about this might be in large part impacted by whatever they end up doing with the "festival center" or whatever we're calling it. I know some bemoan the constant festival rotation in EPCOT, but I admit I'm kind of partial to at least the...

News Spaceship Earth Refurb - 2 Year Closure

Well aware, but just pointing out that the heart of the ride still focuses on different mediums of communications technology, despite the altered script and a couple of shifted scenes (i.e. the Greeks); a move toward storytelling will mean a much more fundamental change in presentation.

News Spaceship Earth Refurb - 2 Year Closure

Well, no, it is a change: the progression of the ride starts with communication to survive prehistoric times, then stories in caves, but then legal decrees in Egypt, trade with the Phoenicians, academia in ancient Greece, infrastructure in Rome, libraries in the Middle East, etc. Storytelling is...

News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

And between the four parks in Florida those folks already have tons and tons and tons of it. It'd just be nice to see WDI get back to trying to wow people with concepts and experiences nobody had thought about before. They can do that while still expanding Fantasyland and making Studios into a...

News Spaceship Earth Refurb - 2 Year Closure

Kind of goes along with rides that decide they need narratives to explain why you're there, most often revolving around the usual "you're doing X, but SOMETHING GOES WRONG(!!!)" angle, or the "help us find <insert character here>!" one. Like, Dinosaur is a fun ride, but the idea that the...

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Yep, I got to visit Disneyland for the first time in 2017 and got to use the old style paper fastpass there, then went to WDW this year with the new style and...ugh. I'm sure fastpass in any form ends up being an issue for efficiency, but give me the old system any day, the new one was just...

News Reflections of Earth confirmed to be replaced by Harmonious

Said it in another thread, but man, losing IllumiNations for a nighttime show centering on Disney songs might be the biggest downer from all of this. Again, the idea that "movie characters = more Disney" really brings me down; I might be an 80s kid, but I remember growing up with a Disney that...

News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

Well, no: I was there this summer to see my baby nephew's first trip, I might end up back there in 2021 or 2022 since a good friend wants to go down there for Food and Wine at some point, but the days of going for my own enjoyment have kind of ebbed away. It's too bad: I grew up privileged...

News Spaceship Earth Refurb - 2 Year Closure

Not sure how to feel yet; such a great part of the attraction to me is the power of communicating ideas and knowledge, and while storytelling can play into that it feels more limited, and, as mentioned, more attuned to adding in whatever characters and Disney-owned content they want to get in...

News Big changes coming to EPCOT's Future World?

I do feel a bit cold after these announcements, but perhaps a lot of that was how it seemed they were teasing a lot more but ended up not really revealing much that wasn't already expected. I give them points for at least being bold with their redesign ideas, even if I don't totally agree with...

    News Dismal Q3 Earnings

Yeah, there's no way GE doesn't help the parks down the road in some way, likely in the near future. Suffice it say, many Disney parks, Studios in particular, have been starved for new content and attractions; I'm not keen on everything they've done in Orlando the past x-number of years, but...

    News Dismal Q3 Earnings

If there's a lesson here concerning Star Wars, I'd argue it's simply that a content company like Disney, which is clearly what they've become, can't just look at all IP as having the same qualities and potential for mass production. In other words, Star Wars isn't Marvel, and it isn't Potter...

Rumor Brazil (and maybe others) Pavilion Coming to Epcot [not about Brazilian people nor a country wish list]

That's really too bad, if it all ends up that way. I do mean it when I say I don't need a lot to be happy with what's there, but it shouldn't be too much to at least ask for a decent museum display or a film; I can live without a ride, pavilions like Japan are still among my favorite, but guess...

News Beauty and the Beast sing-along coming to Epcot's France Pavilion

Yeah, I was sitting there with the widest smile on my face seeing it in such great definition, loved it. My girlfriend leaned over when it was done to say "that's a film that doesn't even need much updating, so much of it still works today" (e.g. doesn't have as many things like the old Spirit...

Rumor Brazil (and maybe others) Pavilion Coming to Epcot [not about Brazilian people nor a country wish list]

Think I said this much earlier when this topic came up, but after my first trip back to WDW in a few years this week I do want to say I'm really happy about the idea of any country getting legitimate representation in WS and seeing one of the expansion pads getting used for its original purpose...

Do I need to see the film to appreciate the World of Avatar?

I have to think it kind of helps. Imagineering clearly went all in on the area, which is cool, but my lack of familiarity with the movie probably had me feeling kind of arms length from my surroundings, you know?

Avatar Flight of Passage reviews, comments and questions

Rode it for the first time yesterday; pretty good, though I don't intend on spending over 100 minutes on line for it again. Hasn't replaced Everest as my favorite AK ride, but it's well worth checking out.
