Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

Um. I'm specifically talking about a ride at Universal that caters more towards young kids than adults. And you're saying that most people at Universal are older teens and adults. So... thank you for making my argument for me.

Not in the slightest. I never said that at all. Please don't lie. Again.

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

I've never said a word about the demographics of the parks. Just their ride design and ability to accommodate guests, which Universal isn't as good at. It was absolutely filthy when I was there last. I don't have an "agenda", as I quite like Universal, but they could pick up some trash and...

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

I actually rode Mine Train with a 350 lb friend (who is thankfully no longer 350 lb) and while it was a tight fit, and not super comfortable, they had no issue with allowing him to ride. Same with Space, Splash, etc. The only ride, to my knowledge, with especially tight access issues is Flight...

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

You and lazyboy know quite well I don't have "percentages" or "research" on the accessibility of rides at Disney. I'm speaking out of much experience and traveling with people on many occasions who are 300-350 lbs or more and are still quite able to get on the rides--- yes, all of them --...

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

Exactly, that's just what I was saying. Once I rode it, I realized why it had such strict limits. It's just a shame they didn't figure out a way to make the ride accessible to people over, say, 250 lbs.

No thank you! Have a nice day, and be sure to use the test vehicles before standing in line.

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

Yes, I am, because some people find it difficult to understand these things, oddly. And yes, it does have a very low size/weight requirement, as I outlined repeatedly -- far lower than any ride at Disney or Universal. Thank you for your input.

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

I think I made that pretty clear: that the extremely low size/weight requirements kept even normal-sized people from riding. I'm certainly glad they had test seats out so we didn't spend time standing in line. I'm glad Disney works with their ride manufacturers to make sure their rides are...

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

Well, yes. Absolutely not; I'm not saying that, by any means. As I say, this ride in particular needs to keep weight/size to a limit because of what kind of ride it is, and I get that, having ridden it. But without knowing that, it's surprising to go to a theme park with people who can easily...

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

This is true, and having ridden the ride, I completely understand why it has such strict limits -- I mean, it's basically a crane whipping people around. But Disney works with their ride manufacturers really closely to make sure the ride is widely accessible for its guests. It was surprising to...

Woman says she felt fat-shamed at Islands of Adventure ride

I have to say that I was really surprised by how low the weight/size requirements are on rides at Universal versus Disney. I recently went to Universal LA with some friends, and out of our group of 8 people, only three were allowed on the "Forbidden Journey" ride in the Harry Potter area. And...

My Unpopular WDW Opinion - post yours!

I think Haunted Mansion is one of the finest theme park rides in any park in the world, and a masterpiece of storytelling, atmosphere, and craft. Apparently that's an unexpectedly unpopular opinion!

What is The Weirdest/Funniest Thing That You've Seen at Disney?

You reminded me of another funny bathroom experience I had once. In the toilets right outside of Star Tours in DHS, a little kid dressed in a full Darth Vader outfit came in, unzipped himself at the urinal, made a lightsaber “VROOM” sound, and sang the Darth Vader theme the whole time he was...

What is The Weirdest/Funniest Thing That You've Seen at Disney?

I will say that on a recent trip, two (adult) friends of mine signed up to do the "Pirate League", and their outfits and makeup looked so good that they were taking pictures with kids and being mistaken for characters from PoTC. That reminds me of a weird story: a guy I know is a former Disney...

My Unpopular WDW Opinion - post yours!

Same here! My friends and I lamented its loss -- we all loved the goofy ridiculousness of Maelstrom, being attacked by trolls and then splashing down next to an oil derrick in the North Sea. "The spirit of Norway is... and will always be.... aquavit." But even as someone who's not a huge Frozen...

My Unpopular WDW Opinion - post yours!

Strollers are a necessity, but I agree that double-wide strollers should be phased out of rentals. They're simply too wide to be used in crowds. I'd say 90% of the time that I see someone get hit by strollers, it's double-wides.

My Unpopular WDW Opinion - post yours!

There's a very, very big difference between cautioning someone that the things they're saying could come off as racist and to actually say "you are a racist". He literally called me a racist for saying that I enjoy Animal Kingdom and that I'd seen reference images of the villages that the...

What is The Weirdest/Funniest Thing That You've Seen at Disney?

Back in the late '80s, I was walking through the Magic Kingdom near the Carousel, and pushing through the crowd right towards me was a big group of large guys dressed in black suits, wearing sunglasses. They sort of walked all around me to get by, and suddenly bam! A woman ran into me. "Oh, I'm...
