News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

Nobody is saying either one of those things, but feel free to put words in people's mouths to invent your own arguments?

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

I'm not really sure what your point is. The CDC has been recommending N95 masks for over a year and I wear them on airplanes, per their guidelines. So, as I said before, and as you repeated: masks are effective.

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

I would argue that a huge segment of America's population is questioning those facts. And given some responses here rejecting masks as useless, I would say that some people on this forum are, too.

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

Masks help prevent the spread of disease. Including Covid. Vaccines are extremely effective at preventing the worst effects of Covid. Social distancing and handwashing/sanitizing are effective. Always have been. Somehow these things are considered controversial or questionable by some people...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

Information changes as circumstances and science evolves, and some people choose to interpret that as a lack of clear facts, which is unfortunate. It certainly doesn't help that there's been a lot of deliberate misinformation out there since the start. There are, however, clear-cut...

I, for one, am glad that the moderator is calling out misinformation. That's their job.

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

Not true, actually. Not sure if you'd heard about Covid variants, but there's still a tremendous amount of uncertainty about how much the different vaccines protect from them as they continue to evolve. Also, again: The vaccine does not prevent you from contracting Covid-19. It prevents you...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

I am vaccinated and still wearing a mask, because I want to help both protect myself from that 2-5% chance of getting sick and protecting the unvaccinated who I could potentially transmit it to.

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

Guidelines change, as the CDC's may, if Delta and other potentially vaccine-dodging variants become dominant here in the US. I think it's a tad ironic that the same people who hold the CDC's directives in such high regard today were dismissing their mask recommendations as useless junk science...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

The ironic thing about all this is that when I visited WDW a few months before the shutdown, I had actually looked into wearing a mask; I seem to always get some sort of bug when I visit, and it seemed like common sense. Back then, it was actually hard to find masks to wear. But like you and...

No. Absolutely not. That does not apply to saving other people's lives. Don't go there. Your choice is to stay home.

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

As to why to wear masks: vaccines aren't 100% effective; nobody ever said they were. And they don't prevent you from *getting* the disease, they prevent you from getting *affected* by the disease. You can still potentially transmit it, which in a theme park full of unvaccinated kids is kind of a...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

On one level, like a few other folks have mentioned here, so few people wear masks there right now that if you do, you get lots of weird looks; I mean, even in my area (far from Florida), I've had people intentionally cough on me and and that sort of thing when I'm the only person in a store...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

And, in my experience, the folks not complying will make things very uncomfortable for those of us who still choose to wear masks indoors. My fear is exactly that -- if Disney does try to protect guests by following the science, most guests (especially locals) will simply refuse, knowing that...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

Their profit margins are gonna be awfully slim if they're still neglecting their guests' health when positivity rates keep climbing and the parks get a reputation as an unsafe place to take your family. It's a tricky balance because lots of people have been delaying their trips until after the...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

This is somewhat true, but it's not very Magical® to neglect ways to protect your guests in favor of making the locals angry again. Disney's made 'health policies' for decades by choosing whether people can smoke in the parks, offering hand sanitizer -- simple common sense things to keep guests...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

Wearing masks to prevent transmission of a deadly virus isn't a "trend", it's what you do to prevent deaths.

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

This is key, I think. WDW's reputation for taking care of its guests and keeping them safe is massively important. The worst case scenario for the company would be an outbreak directly linked to the park or something similar to impact guest confidence just as they're finally starting to staff...

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

I think that the messages of "get a life-saving vaccine" and "wear a mask to protect yourself from those who can't or won't" are both very valid and can co-exist.

News Disney mask policy at Walt Disney World theme parks

I deeply hope WDW does the right thing to keep its guests safe.... but guests won't like it.
