I can’t speak to budgets, dates or announcements because the people who told me about this over a year ago are not involved in that part of it but they have had plans for quite a while. After they discovered that Car’s land was not a viable project they moved forward with Star Wars Land.

There are more units than that. Tahiti alone has 143 rooms. Tokelau has 144 and Rapa Nui has 74 along with 20 bungalows. Even if they turned every room into a one bedroom (taking up two of the old rooms) that would be 180.

While the East pool does not have the theming of the Nanea Pool it is only about 10% smaller by volume. It will have a bar set up while the Nanea Pool is being redesigned.

Construction will be too close to those rooms so I am guessing it is even a safety issue to have heavy equipment within a few feet of guests. They will only be closing the rooms on the west side that is next to the construction.
