    Disney's magical earnings

A little more parks related detail: For their "Parks & Resorts" segment, operating income was up 12% for this fiscal year's completed 9 months. This increase comes mostly from increases to operating income at the 2 domestic resorts. For WDW, Disney says the increase is due to higher...

You Can Clearly See Though This Wand Update - 8/1

I still think there's something Freudian about all the hatred of the wand out there. Wand-envy, or something like that.

    Disney Parks--Oklahoma!?!

Given the hope of ethanol cutting reliance on oil in the future (I'll leave it to you to decide how realistic that actually is), I expect corn will soon be the largest crop in every state that can grow it!

    Disney Parks--Oklahoma!?!

Oklahoma's suffered from a bad rap ever since Grapes of Wrath (most of which didn't really even apply to Oklahoma. Most of the "Okie" CA migrants were actually from points east of our fair state, and the dust bowl was in reality limited to the 3 OK panhandle counties, the TX panhandle, far west...

    Disney Parks--Oklahoma!?!

Being an Oklahoman, no I think the list makes perfect sense. They're all economic backwaters for one thing. Or is it corrupt governments they were going for? Just a joke, not dissing my home too much. We actually have great weather year round, except for a couple of short-lived bouts of...

    Modifications to the Jungle Cruise

That's probably correct. My belief that Disney thinks people expect tie-ins of some sort probably comes from the old reasoning for the original addition of characters to Epcot more than anything. I remember reading in an older UG that Disney found people were expecting characters to be there...

    Modifications to the Jungle Cruise

I'll concede Mission:Space, although I'd guess 99% of attendees would never make the connection. The Soarin link is a bit of a stretch though. Patrick Warburton is all over the place in the Disney universe, and that's nothing new (ie-Rick Moranis in the 90's, Robin Williams seemingly forever)...

    Modifications to the Jungle Cruise

Well, EE, Mission:Space, Soarin are a few new ones that come to mind. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think Disney is actually striking a good balance in this regard. JC is still very popular with at least the younger set in my family. I, too, hope it can be plussed without being altered...

    TDA Changes Affecting WDW?

Very well put. There are several families that I know that visited WDW for the first time this year. Every one of them came home in awe of the parks with no complaints about MGM or AK or anything else. This year's campaign convinced each of them to make a 24 hr drive to Orlando to see the...

Chelsea signs 4 year deal with Disney

No clue about English football here, but I do know that when I googled the uni's, "Samsung mobile" is prominently displayed. I thought it was strange that there was no reference to Chelsea itself on there (unless it's on the crest on the lapel). So corporate; reminds me of Rollerball.

Universal likely to get Lord of the Rings theme park rights...

Definitely no expert, but I think it could be a good thing for Disney (actually, more a good thing for those paying to visit Disney than for Disney itself). Right now, Universal simply doesn't appear to be even competitive with the Mouse. More healthy competition for attendance figures might...

    7-9-07: Wand Removal Begins

That line is more true now than ever before. I first visited WDW in June 1988, one month after graduating from college. We had only 1 day in Orlando and chose to visit Epcot. I fell in love with Disney on that single day. I had never before and have never since visited a place that was more...

Disney is big legal & public trouble...

I know that's true. I'm actually responding to earlier posts saying this is an overreaction on Disney's part. I agree, but for different reasons. The point was made to the effect that it would be awful if somewhere down the road one of these kids couldn't bring his own child to the park...

Disney is big legal & public trouble...

Even if Disney did fingerprint them, nobody is required to provide their fingerprint to enter any Disney property as a visitor. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Disney has an alternate method for entering the parks for anyone who is not comfortable with the finger check system.

Disney is big legal & public trouble...

Banned for life. Just an empty threat. When I buy my park tickets, I buy them from a discount vendor like Undercover Tourist. Disney has no info on who I am other than my fingerprint upon entering, and I'm not even required to provide that. Perhaps I'm wrong and this info is transferred from...

    Minor Update

Will characters be allowed to sign their page more than once (ie-at more than one meeting)? Reason I ask is because on our 05 trip we got Mickey's auto as "Chef Mickey" at his restaurant in the Contemporary. This year, we wanted (and got) his "regular" autograph. How would that work in the...

    Character Invasion

Sure, there's tons of Nemo now, but there are also brand spanking new e-tickets that have gobbled up tremendous parks dollars like Everest and Mission Space. Throw in Soarin, and I don't think the imbalance is as great as Hill argues. And really, Disney's target audience (today's kids, not...
