I am still amazed at the responses I personally hear when talking with people ( not online ). Most of these people I am on friendly terms, and try to understand their point of view. Most seem to be prideful or emotional defensive when the topic comes up. Here is a small example: Coworker...

Vaccine effectiveness is quoted is relative terms not absolute. I gave VE relative numbers not absolute numbers . ( See prior posts where I even described the use of it in studies). The minimum VE in relative numbers that the FDA would have initially approved at the start of the pandemic was...

If I had not caught Delta in June, according to when I was fully vaccinated in September 2020, the expected VE (efficacy) against wild covid (ie original covid) would be 63% right now for me. 63% is not slightly less. So almost a coin flip. If you factor in the decrease in VE from delta it...

Lots of data showing vaccines wearing off. Just look at some of the studies and analysis I have linked in the past. This includes Pfizer’s own analysis of phase 3 data pre delta. VE of Pfizer is dropping 3% per month. ( linked in the past) Then other studies showing Pfizer is less effective vs...

Technically I believe the Phase 3 Pfizer study report had 84% at 4+ months ( before Delta was prevalent ). I linked the study a while back. Delta will make VE less than that. About a 3% drop per month was reported in study pre-delta.

They also used absolute risk reduction instead of relative risk reduction. Using absolute risk has value and have read papers contrasting it to relative risk. But when they downplay a vaccine’s effectiveness because it only had a 5% ARR (Absolute Risk Reduction), I believe they chose to use it...

There can be confounding factors ( demographics of who was vaccinated when, who takes a PCR test, etc.). Study data is from May through July so...

One interesting issue with non-clinical studies is that the reference level of neutralizing antibodies is based on the amount needed as shown in studies of primates to neutralize the original wild SARS-CoV-2, not delta. I expect they will do a new primate study someday against delta to give a...
