News Avatar Experience coming to Disneyland Resort

Possible, but as I've mentioned in other posts I still think we're looking at mid-2030s before anything opening up there. And I just don't see them waiting until 2035 and beyond to open Avatar. I still think they want this to open while the movies are still coming out in theaters, and unless something is changed we're still getting Avatar 4 in 2029 and Avatar 5 in 2031.

And whenever they do decide to use the new plots for expansion, or whatever they have in mind, I have to imagine it will be like a Fantasy Springs dealio, where it's all built together and opens at once.

You know as well as I do that Avatar has not really penetrated the cultural zeitgeist. As a visual spectacle it does gangbusters in theatres and then people forget about it until the next movie. The 6 billion is irrelevant if people aren’t clamoring for its theme park presence. McDonald's can sell a billion Big Macs but it doesn’t mean someone wants one at their Thanksgiving table. Which really speaks volumes as the settings from the movie are excellent source material for theme park lands and attractions.

Not to mention it doesn’t sell merch, will cost roughly a billion dollars and the last movie did not do as well as they expected. Yeah, I wouldn’t be shocked.
The $6B and counting box office shows that people actually do care about the franchise overall. Its one of the most popular lands at WDW, so to say that people aren't going to be clamoring for it when it arrives is a bit native if you ask me. Just because it hasn't penetrated the zeitgeist (which is actually doubtful based on the box office) doesn't mean it won't be a land that everyone will come to and enjoy.

So yeah I'd honestly be shocked if this get cancelled. Disney has made no posturing like its being cancelled or even delayed.

For that matter can you think of any project in modern Disney's history where they have outright said "this will not delay "name project here" opening"? I can't think of one, so yeah I still don't know why you believe its potentially being cancelled just because they have delayed the closure of Monsters.

So we’re just going to have to disagree then aren’t we?

I’m pretty in tune with the fandom. I get the sense that the large majority are ok with Avatar being this really beautiful, unique, one-off thing at Animal Kingdom. Of course I will also fully acknowledge that the majority of those people would eat their words if Disney delivers a beautiful mini land and Shanghai POTC version of Avatar.

There was a metric ton of opposition to Pandora at DAK. It all kind of died when the product was unexpectedly so good. I expect this dissidence is the same thing playing out again, but in a more minor way.

Yes
If someone looks at that Zootopia POV from Shangai and says they prefer that to the Pandora concept art for DCA they are either dumb as rocks or a Furry. I said what I said.

I'm curious if there are sufficient furries or furry adjacents to outnumber the Avatar fans in the metro LA area.

Never mind , I looked it up, only 10s of millions nation wide per year for furry economic impact.

Perhaps it gets moved to another park. My guess is Shanghai or Abu Dhabi, but they wouldn't outright cancel it altogether. They have already put in years of work into it and it would be embarrassing for Cameron.

Also, even if it's "less popular," it's still one of the biggest movie franchises.
Or is could simply get moved to Animal Kingdom and put on the Pandora expansion pad at AK.

Dave from FBD claims he heard there might be an issue getting the water for the land into the backlot and Simba would be easier to do that. My guess is that is pure cope. Dave is in denial they can make Avatar work for the backlot, am I right?

Definitely can’t be true or the reason why they’d consider moving it?
I doubt its true, otherwise how does the bathroom in the land get water, or the quick service stands. There is already water in that area. Plus there is likely a huge water line running down Harbor that supplies all the Harbor businesses that can be tapped into if needed. Not to mention that its not like Disney can't pay to have another water line dug if a dedicated water source is needed.

Plus if that is the case, why would Simba be any easier to get water (where none currently exists) rather than the Backlot which already has water.

I love FB, but he comes up with some wild theories sometimes.

Is it a theory or did he say he heard something?

He claims he "heard" it, but I've always taken that with a grain of salt, because of the "bus driver" factor. Also its easy to say you "heard" something to try and pass off a theory as legitimate.

He also prefaces all these things in his videos as his theories anyways, whether he "hears" them or not. That way he doesn't get in trouble with viewers when things don't turn out to be true.

I will add to this, there is a 15 Million Gallon water source not more than 1000ft away that is already connected to the OC Water District. So getting water to the area is not an issue.
