Upcoming Announcement?

In the discussion surrounding WDW’s Villain’s Land and the potential changes it is undergoing, Steve (site owner of WDW Magic) suggested that “something big” could be in the works for the West Coast, rivaling or overshadowing the news reel for Villain’s Land.
I dont think you are being unreasonable. But then early concept art can always be iffy, especially since D23 Expo has pushed Disney to announce things that they really aren't ready to announce. There is something else that will likely surface soon that is perhaps even bigger.
West Coast
Thought it would be worth creating a new forum chat to discuss.

To me this would have to be something that will be revealed through permitting, land acquisition, or logistics with the city.

That’s why I’m less inclined to think Tomorrowland and more inclined to think west side Disneyland Forward expansion or something on the Toy Story lot. There’s also the possibility that the Eastern Gateway has been shifted to reveal something different going on with the backlot.

“And in 2030 you’ll be able to visit our recreation of Fox Studios in the Hollywood Backot where you will be transported to Pandora to ride Navi River Journey. It will be very similar to the Navi River Journey guests love at Animal Kingdom just without the animatronic. We’ll be using never before seen screens to bring the magic to life.”

Looks like I was right on the announcement. They are going to work on reliability. It's pretty obvious to someone that hasn't been in the parks for 7 years that they are falling apart. Half of DCAs rides where broken at sometime during the day. That's inexcusable.

It's better to increase capacity via reliably then build new unreliable rides.

I like what they said about operations and park hoppers too.

Didn't they mention that like 2 weeks ago? I don't think that's a super recent announcement.

Doesn't matter but I'm glad they are doing this. The parks are not a world class experience because of so many broken rides and effects. It's not an overnite fix. It's going to take time. It also doesn't look good to have so many construction walls throughout the park.

There really aren't THAT many.

ATM, 1/4 of MSUSA, the attractions closed for refurb, the rides they're building, that stupid Tomorrowland entrance thing they won't fix.

Unless we're objecting to the lack of themed scrims, I'm not sure what they're supposed to do here.

That Tomorrowland entrance one just es me off. How hard is it to just buy a shed from Home Depot and put the Astro Orbiter machinery in it. It's not like it hasn't happen before.

That one, yes. It's been years. Inexcusable.

But the other ones? Apart from themed scrims, what are they supposed to do? They need to fix up the park, and that's what happens.

I believe the things we're talking about as being in a re-think phase (Villains Land, DCA's Pandora) are in the bidding phase or earlier.

Len, are these two throwaway lines from yourself and @wdwmagic related?

You are the first one who has actually come out and said there is also a rethink on this project. It doesn’t seem like they’ve moved away from the backlot, so are they also trying to up the ante on the offerings?

I’m confused on how Pandora would be “bigger”, given the space. I guess Hyperion and/or Animation could be on the chopping block if it trying to wildly overspeculate on the breadcrumbs.

For DCA Pandora? I mean, new CEO and a new one-year delay in closing Mike & Sully seem to indicate ... something's happening. A couple of other points:
I suspect several ideas are being considered. Jim Shull makes a good case for Zootopia here.
