I’m being called unreasonable on Reddit for expecting a Maleficent coaster based on the officially released artwork, even before today’s news.

WDWmagic, what say you?
I dont think you are being unreasonable. But then early concept art can always be iffy, especially since D23 Expo has pushed Disney to announce things that they really aren't ready to announce.

There is something else that will likely surface soon that is perhaps even bigger.

The Haunted Mansion exists. I don't think anything featuring the villains should be aimed at those in the 3-7 year old age range and should be aimed at the 8-13 year old age range.
Oh I agree with you.

But the MK is a princess park. Putting aside the dreaded Disney Adults, the little princesses are not going to be thrilled about a spooky/edgy villains land.

Anything done has to have the same vibe and feeling as the Boo to You parade.

Yes. I think a LOT of people want to see Disney do another Expedition Everest or Big Thunder Mountain scale coaster at WDW, and perhaps push it a bit further.
Absolutely this. But I don’t think there should be a Velocicoaster level ride in this land. But definitely the level of theming of those roller coasters (and to be honest TENG actually would be a good basis for a well themed coaster)

The only disappointment would be ANOTHER spinner. The E-ticket boat ride and ENG coaster I have been asking for since the 2000s. A Hades dinner show sounds good too. I never expected them to go too scary at Magic Kingdom.

Does MK need another family level coaster? Doesn't Big Thunder Mountain meet that criteria.
I think this is my other issue with the news today. I understand this is all about lightning lane, but there are 3 family coasters, 4 if you include barnstormer, in MK already. What is going to be different about this one? I don't think anyone is under the impression that they're going to build Velocicoaster or Hollywood Drift, but having a coaster based around villains should logically be on the upper end of intensity to match the theme. Magic Kingdom is evolving more away from being East Coast Disneyland with these additions, so IDK if it necessarily needs to stay beholden to the idea that every single attraction in the park needs to be something that the toddlers and grandma can also ride.

Now that is super intriguing. Like D23 soon or sooner? And how big are we talking?

This is an understatement…
So, let me get this straight, the original plan included a Madame Medusa restaurant from the Rescuers, but she was nowhere to be seen on the Villains that would inspire the land?

she’s nowhere near worthy enough to be featured in the land other than an Easter egg.

In my opinion (that no one asked for) I think MK would actually be helped by moving away from that idea in the long run. It seems it's trending that way between Piston Peak being their new model for Frontierland and Villains land being added. They should attempt to separate it a little from just being East Coast Disneyland and this is for sure a way to do it. Nothing should ever be Alien Encounter intense in MK, but being eerie/creepy shouldn't be a non-starter imo.

Does MK need another intense coaster? Doesn’t Tron meet that criteria?

Being less flippant, I think a ride the intensity level of BTMRR - but with a very different theme and ambiance - would be fine. Such a ride would be popular and well received. That said, assuming the boat ride is all ages then I’d probably aim for something around the intensity of Everest/Cosmic Rewind for this land’s coaster but hopefully themed on the level of BTMRR (and Everest)

But isn’t the choice a Shanghai Pirates style ruse and a coaster?

If we got three rides I wouldn’t care. Bring on Izma if we get a Night on Bald Mountain Fantasia coaster!
Per this report, the idea is a large indoor boat ride, a coaster and a flat ride. Personally I’m fine if the coaster is only moderately intense - I think aiming for somewhere in the 40-44” height requirement is fine.
