Just going to drop SPECIFICALLY Cameron and Spielberg’s takes

The forum deserves to hear from James Cameron and Christopher Nolan.

So, I as an Internet rando, ignore me, even though I’m right, just listen to people that have credibility if that’s what it takes. I was hoping to continue updating the thread as new news comes along, but better this than getting it deleted.

If you reply STAY ON TOPIC.

It’ll just derail this thread into something it’s not meant to be.

Thanks.

Paramount buying out Warner Bros is a death sentence for Hollywood for sure..., it is just unbelievable >:(
Care to elaborate how it’s worse for theatrical?

From my perspective, I don’t like the ideas of mergers and oligarchs, but compared to the alternative, I don’t think we had a choice.

I also don’t think Warner is capable of managing themselves, frankly, and without a larger piece of the streaming pie they will struggle against Disney and Netflix, meaning that this merger could ironically help cinema and competition long-term, kind of like had iRobot been acquired by Amazon, it would still around long-term.

So to me it was more about Universal/Paramount, an existing studio, than a streamer to acquire it.

Cable TV is thankfully dying, and sports is quickly becoming a separate thing means it really is bidding time, so I don’t want theaters to go the same way.

Using Disney/Fox as a baseline, theatrical releases have reduced from both Fox/Disney following their merger.

It can be fair to presume that similar will happen with a merged Warner/Paramount. Paramount has already previously pulled movies from theatrical schedule to direct to streaming.

Either merger was going to be bad/worse for theatrical

This thread has a less political bent than the one that was deleted.

But still contains a couple of remarks that were edited out.

I think this could be interesting for streaming. With the Warner library and IPs Paramount plus will be in a stronger position, more adult viewers could easily be drawn to them over Disney Plus

Better than Netflix.

Same if Comcast bought Warner.
