DAK 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

Bummed but not devestated. Dinosaur is the one closure lately where my only reaction is "Eh it had its run"
It definitely hurts less than the others - but getting the “last rides” and seeing it in good shape again still makes me sad.

I’m not totally against the Indiana jones idea -but Indy and Encanto don’t naturally go together at all. So I’m still not sure why they couldn’t have kept the good parts of Dinoland USA - plussed them, and then also added the Encanto attraction and maybe even the carousel as well. Seems like that would have been a win for all.

Or just dig up and use more of the original plans for DinoLand but of course that would be against the holy IP mandate.

Or because they wanted another dark ride in this park rather than another thrill ride which this park has quite a lot of for a limited ride park.

Dinosaur, Expedition Everest, Kali, and FOP are all thrill rides

The only non thrill rides in the park is the Safari, Navi, and the train. I'm sure you can see the problem. Even with triceratops, that wasn't a great line up. Now it's going to be more in the lesser thrills direction again.

I am still wondering why they didn't build Tropical Americas on that giant expansion pad between Asia and Rafiki's Planet Watch. It's literally a blank slate.

The only thing I can think of for this decision was that they wanted to save construction costs by repurposing the Dinosaur ride platform into Indiana Jones.
Which itself makes no sense, as an Indy ride should have been built at DHS to finally put the badly-neutered stunt show out of everyone's misery.

I'm also under the impression that Disney has officially ceded dinosaurs to Universal; I've been hearing that the original JP River Adventure is going to be going down in the near future to convert it to Jurassic World. The irony here is that JP doesn't feature actual dinosaurs, canonically.
"What John Hammond and InGen did at Jurassic Park was create genetically-modified theme park monsters, nothing more, nothing less."

Everything The Bob Iger Company does in the parks is just plain stupid.

Building it on that pad wouldn't have solved the Dino Land problem. No matter what Dino Land needed to go. Whether or not they built on that new pad, Dino Land was gonna go extinct. It had to.

Clearly they wanted to get rid of the land (and rightfully so) and save that pad for something else down the line (there's rumors it'll be Lion King). This is two birds one stone. They get to add better attractions to the park while also finally getting rid of it's one true blemish.

There's room to question a lot of the choices that have been made lately, but this one makes the most sense and frankly, I think it was the right decision. That expansion pad is better served for something else.

Hard disagree; Dinoland USA could have been fixed by leaning into the Dinosaur Institute theme and removing the roadside tourist trap kitsch.

For instance, once, there was an animatronic of Aladar in the river.

It could be viewed only from the discovery river boats; once they were removed, so was he.

But why not make a gentle ride, where instead of insane murder-lizards, the dinosaurs are presented as normal animals? Say a boat ride....like Jungle Cruise, but with a more serious tone.

We certainly know the idea of Disney Parks having coherent unifying themes will be an extinct concept in the near future.
Yet Tropical Americas as a land is going to be an original theme for a land with IP-based attractions. It's not Indiana Jones Land and it's not Encanto Land. It's themed to the fictional Tropical Americas village of Pueblo Esperanza. And all of the attractions are located in a Tropical Americas environment, whether its a Mayan Temple, the Madrigals home in Colombia or a carousel in the village itself

That absolutely was what DAK needed. But no reasonable treatment of Dinoland ever resulted in taking out Dinosaur for that attraction. They all defaulted to a coaster as a secondary attraction. What was good and sensible for Dinoland USA was ultimately not the best choice for DAK. If they ever reintroduce dinosaurs, they are far better off starting from scratch, instead of building the main attraction on the bones of Indy.

Will be?

We're witnessing the last coherent park having its theme ripped out in real time. Animal Kingdom is going to be over 25% grab-bag and another 25% "well at least it's an oval peg shoved in a round hole instead of a square one?" in three days.

There's only coherency left if you count the water parks.

What’s incoherent at MK?

We still have World Showcase. And I don’t find DHS thematically problematic. It’s just stressful planning a day there.

I’d invite you to stroll around Africa or Asia at DAK and try to remain cynical, too.

It’s not all doom and gloom. A park with an Asia and Africa land is adding a Central/South America land. I’m just not that offended. The park has had rides that aren’t really about animals for a long time. Will we be satisfied if they take 20 seconds to remind us about conservation? Or maybe a statue of a panther will suffice? Good enough for 1999-2003 DAK.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Tropical Americas Playground and Site Layout Revealed in New Permit Filing

Tropical-Americas_Full_63649.jpg

Really excited to see this confirmed. My kids are too old now, but have such great memories of the Boneyard. They're teens now but were sad to hear when it was closing. That was place was amazing for little kids (*when it wasn't a million degrees out) and was truly unique.

Glad to see they're putting something like this back, even if smaller.

AK will be much improved with the Dino area going away. I am sorry for those of you who are grieving, but the Chester and Hester area was a cheap eyesore that ruined AK for so many and Dinosaur never lived up to its premise. Most days it was being thrown around in complete darkness while Dr. Seeker yelled at you and you some a few dinosaurs. It was fun for a little bit, but this park will be better served by Indy, Encanto, the carousel which looks like it will be a beautiful addition, and I am hoping the food will be a home run as well. I don’t always trust Disney with their decision and am still lamenting the loss of rivers of America, but I think this land will be a massive hit and will help transform this park.

Glad to see the play area in the permits!!!
