News Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland Gets Darth Vader in Major Timeline Expansion

Fixing ROTR will take an extensive refurbishment.
I'm curious if someone knowledgeable enough about SW canon has gone through RotR and made an inventory of what would need to change? I'm sure some stuff is squishy and maybe could be retconned such as if there's a tie-fighter or at-at that's supposed to be from decades later, could they make the story about the star destroyer carrying secret weapons prototypes back to the emperor or something (because military systems development/procurement takes decades).

They offered the same kind of immersion that lands like Main Street or New Orleans Square did.
Physically, yes. But the lands you mention have music, lots of foot traffic (due to being thoroughfares), kinetic energy of vehicles, and are festive and happy. SWGE has always been quiet and dour, which they're hopefully fixing with music. Now they need some vehicles and another attraction to increase foot traffic. But maybe that's what you meant by...
It was the wrong kind of immersion though.

By the way, another topic, sounds like the SW Cantina music will be heard outside the Cantina but the Rex DJ/music inside won't change. I'd think they'd put the Cantina music inside if they want to sell more expensive drinks, weird. I wouldn't mind a hologram projection of the Cantina band, I just don't like that Rex, especially his '80s Saturday Morning cartoons voice.

This seems like an obvious move and positive development to improve what should be their most popular land.

For context, I love Star Wars. I did do the Galactic Starcruiser - and I've been to both SWGE lands many times, and genuinely think they're some of the most impressive lands ever built. However, the more I went to the lands, the less I considered them a "must do" on repeat visits. I just never felt the same emotional pull that I do at the Potter lands.

I believe the announced moves will change that feeling for a lot of people who feel the same way I do. I hope it comes to WDW. I imagine the construction already ongoing in that park has something to do with the desire to keep things as they are - for now. Hoping that changes in the near future!

Are we referring to the Launch Bay that just closed in DHS after nearly ten years or the former Carousel theater in Disneyland?
Disneyland.

I was very pleased to see the wasted space that was the Launch Bay close at DHS.
Looking forward to the refresh there…hopefully better.

Disneyland now needs to repurpose that former Carousel theatre into something else.
Another dead space that is no longer needed since Galaxy’s Edge opened.

Here's hoping for a full replacement of all Tomorrowland (except maybe Space Mountain)

They have guys in jumpsuits selling merch from the bad sequels in nooks and alcoves…

And two college programmers in the weird stormtrooper 2.0 costumes walking around

…wouldn’t say that’s as comfortable as Main Street

Wasn't there just a big to-do about a cancelled Ben Solo movie and the desire to see it make a comeback?

I swear the sequel movies are following the same exact trajectory the prequels did.

Internet speculation

They should…they’re much worse
Apparently Adam Driver was pushing for it heavily and there was progress on a script.

Disney said no. (And probably wisely so on their part.)

I'm sure if he pushed for it years earlier, when they were green lighting turds like the Acolyte and Bobba Fett and Kenobi, he would have gotten it, or at least a D+ show.

Thank the Lord for Andor breaking up the string of turds that occurred post Mandalorian.

SWGE has music. It has foot traffic. It has kinetic energy (through characters in the land). I will admit that it seems kind of dour but that's just Star Wars in general. Nothing really happy about an endless war.

I think the key difference is that, Star Wars was a very specific concept in the heads of Star Wars fans coming to visit, and when it differed from that concept, they felt slighted. The John Williams scores don't play in the land because, no one living in a Star Wars universe would have any concept of who John Williams is or does on earth. Han Solo doesn't listen to John Williams on the FM Radio in the Falcon. Luke doesn't listen to John Williams on the jukebox in the cantina.

So even though it makes absolutely no sense from a historical perspective, or a realism perspective, people want to hear John Williams in Star Wars Land because that's what they associate with Star Wars. And that nostalgia is by far the bigger driver of satisfaction than even the peak form of immersive art ever will be.

The big downside to that is, WDI can build an absolutely build a spot on recreation of the frontier old west, but if it doesn't even have Lightning McQueen in it, no one will care.

They should set the Millennium Falcon ride during Shadows of the Empire, because Han would NEVER let random people fly the Falcon. Lando piloting it during RotJ was a special circumstance. Then we could have a Lando animatronic instead of Hondo.
They could make it work as Han is lending the Falcon to the Rebellion/New republic something something extra help for supplies something something dark side

Ashoka should really be a hit…a popular clone wars character with a lot of OT/EU weenies

It makes me nervous they have delayed it…
But if rumors are correct…the second season is all filoni retconning and fan service of the stupidity of the sequels…

Which means Kath might have to be gone first…since it undues a lot of the slop of her man boy stud directions.

From the guy who said CBJ is being replaced with a toy story show and The land and seas will be demolished 🤣
Tom claims HE STOPPED them from replacing CBJ 🤣

The land and seas being demolished is an unthinkable rumor!

But NOTHING would surprise me from today's Disney company!

In reality, after completing the destruction of Futureworld in EPCOT, I do not think they are going spend significant money in EPCOT for the next 20 years or so.

I would not be surprised if in the near future they closed the Land or Sea pavilions or opened them only seasonally (to save costs), then said it was due to lack of guest demand!

Overheard from a conversation between Bob and K... Awwww crapola... I just know if this change was made at Galaxys Edge in DHS the Star Wars Galaxys Hotel experience would have succeeded.
