MK Villains Land Announced for Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Personally, I think the fact that this has been a fan requested land for decades (all anyone has wanted is Door Coaster and Villains Land/Park for ages) along with the influx of popularity surrounding both Halloween broadly and the Disney villains specifically, especially among the current age demographic they’re trying to cater the parks to, is what finally pushed them to do this
How many literal “decades” are we talking about?

The response at D23 2022, I think, very much talked them into it. I’ve been to a number of them and nothing (in a parks panel) has ever gotten such a response directed at the guy who now makes the calls. Hence if audience submissions/popularity should matter, but currently it seems to be driving their decision making.

There’s a good amount of armchair imagineering in the 2000’s for Villains. Disney even internally started developing the Monsters Coaster circa 2010, but perhaps earlier. Of course it was on again-off again.

I wouldn’t say it’s unfair to label them two of the five more perennial requests over the years; along with Western River Expedition, Beastly Kingdom and the Jules Verne projects.

I’ve long said that the ones posting on those threads on micechat or here circa 2005-2015 are the ones now increasingly in positions of power.

That’s the chat GPT synopsis…but i was asking what they felt during this long…arduous wait for the yet to be declared or really even fleshed out at all “villainsland”…
Let’s keep it real

I'd argue the Millennial fans don't care about stuff Western River Expedition, Discovery Bay, WESTCOT etc

They'd rather have an Emperor's New Groove water coaster like the one Kronk and Yzma ride

Them and Imagination 4.0

Definitely, I was trying to stick away from redos. Otherwise Disneyland’s Tomorrowland/Peoplemover is also rounding out the list.

Indeed, I was also thinking of the things heavily requested 10-15 years ago when I made statement. Those two things have fallen off the radar of young fans.

I’ve been hearing about a Villains land or park since I’ve been going to Disney as a little kid (23ish years ago now). I distinctly remember my Dad talking about it, and he’d been deep in parks culture since before I was born. I would have to imagine given that that it’s an idea/fan want that originated in the late 90s.

The Door Coaster has been on people’s lips since the movie came out.

The article is interesting. It’s Also another takedown of Chapek. They spend a good deal of time painting DCL Adventure as an unexpectedly poor fiscal decision since it required way more than anticipated. Though Vaughn eventually defends it that it still saved significant time and resources than going from pure scratch.

That was literally the only known Chapek decision I’ve said was smart. Poor guy. 😭

Might be time to stop blaming the guy who was barely there who never really had any power…for a 20 year pattern of questionable strategy and slow decay…

Before you were born it was mostly bluster with no substance. Eager fans claiming knowledge they pulled from their own bathrooms. Screamscape type stuff. Not sure that was “steeped in park culture”?

That was actually people missing the “Eisner era” as it was ending…because it was the true expansion time that was best for fans…
They just didn’t know it then…and maybe continue to promote parks now and STILL don’t understand what it is they’re missing.
I would have to imagine given that that it’s an idea/fan want that originated in the late 90s.
That would have been the legendary “night kingdom”…which may have been the same thing in theory…but was kicked around as a counter to discover cove (that time)

Rumors seemed to germinate on this - mostly on the faux “imagineering” chat forums - prolly around 2007 ish?

Said while they're simultaneously building Pueblo Esperanza. 🤔
Are you saying that as an indicator of being restricted by an IP?

Because Pueblo Esperanza is part of a larger land of Tropical Americas. And it will have at least two rides representing two different IPs. And the carousel, I'm assuming, will be a melange of IP animals from many sources.

Villains Land doesn't seem to be the free-wheeling non-IP some are making it out to be (including its Imagineers) if it's going to be based on the usual suspects of the fairy tale villains.

It’s been a rumor ever since Fantasmic went East. The rumor went that GSATs out of that show were through the roof and the public wanted more villains. Don’t know how much of that was true, but I refuse to believe it will ever happen until I actually step foot in it. Currently, I’m expecting a rug pull with all expansion stopped because of revenue collapse end of next year with only Cars getting competed at MK. It just pays to be pessimistic, on this and any Imagination redo, they’ve been rumored for 30+ years.

When it says will feature characters from Snow White, Peter Pan and Aladdin, do you think that's referring to just the villains (Evil Queen & Magic Mirror, Captain Hook & Smee, Jafar & Iago) or the other characters too?? And is this confirmation of three movies they're actually incorporating or just based on that influence picture from Brazil D23?
