Survivor 50 "In the Hands of the Fans" Discussion Thread

It's officially the Survivor 50 preseason, which means it's time to create a new thread!

We've been waiting a while for this one, as I think they announced 50 would be returning players during season 46. There's been lots and lots and discussion and rumors about the potential cast, but it's finally time!

I know we will have lots to talk about, so feel free to discuss all things Survivor here. I'm so excited for a new returnee season! It's been 10 seasons since our last one, which is the longest gap in Survivor history without returnees (if you don't count Bruce in 45). Looking forward to discussing it all with you. If you haven't caught the trailer yet, here it is!

My initial thoughts on the trailer...

When I saw it during the 49 finale, I initially was ready to run through a brick wall with excitement. Hearing Coach's monologue was so nostalgic. I know I judged the cast pretty heavily, but I was so pumped to see Colby on my screen. Jenna Lewis? So cool. Really, I was most excited for the people we haven't seen in a long time. Even not that long ago, like Christian and Angelina.

The shots on the runway were really fun, along with the music. However, that came to a screeching halt when Mr. Beast came on the screen. Really? Also, there was a coin flipping around with his logo on it. I hope he doesn't have some kind of Beast Coin in the game. And why do we need Zac Brown, Billie Eilish, and Jimmy Fallon being mentioned? Why? Survivor has always been above that stuff. It might be an attempt to regain ratings and draw in a new audience, but it feels a little gross. I'm hoping it's just a very small part of the season.

Once we moved on from that, it was cool to see everyone doing Survivor things again.

In summary, I still wish we would've gotten more old school and middle school players. And I still wish we would've gotten different new era players (Jesse, Shan, Carolyn, etc), but I'm still excited for the season.

This exactly. I have no idea why they cast Tiffany and Kamila. Jesse, Carolyn, and Shan would have been great and entertaining. Although I think I read that Shan may have been blacklisted for behavior at Ponderosa.

And I don't even know who Mr. Beast or Zac Brown are.

has there been any confirmation about which of the fan vote changes will be in 50?

Not officially, but there is strong speculation that there will be a live reunion. If you saw, there's going to be an idol hunt across all 50 states, with a prize for the person who finds it first. In the rules, it states that the prize will take place from May 19-21, which likely means a trip to the live reunion show.

The live reunion vote option was pretty pointless. It's something they wanted to do for 50 presumably so threw the fans a bone in order to claim they're listening or something.

Who would vote against that?

It's not like advantages, rice, fire making, etc. where there might be a disconnect between old school Survivor purists and casual fans.

The live reunion was one of the only ones where I feel everyone was on the same page. I am definitely curious to see how the rest will pan out. Talking to my Survivor friends, they had different perspectives than I did. I, obviously, am a diehard super fan. They aren't casuals, but they aren't to the same level most of us are. They're not listening to RHAP (even though I've recommended it many times).

Of course. I've watched all the US seasons, and it's so entertaining. And it's also so so so cool that Rob is back on reality TV.
I’m looking forward to seeing Rob C play. I like the first half of a Traitors season. The back half o the season gets messy when they start adding new traitors.
