EPCOT Figment, well, to be replaced by Figment

I've been reflecting on whether to share this...a few nights ago I had a dream that turned into a nightmare.

For almost 30 years I've had recurring dreams (a few times a year as i can remember) of old future world pavilions coming back (or being restored to original forms)

The dream opened with them announcing they replaced the awful Imagination 3.0 with a new "Imagination with Dreamfinder"

But when I entered the pavilion, it was set up just like the Animation Academy immediately before Launch Bay (almost like a college lecture hall).

In walks in a very skinny teen-early-20-something dressed like Dreamfinder leading everyone in an "Imagination Assessment"

Everyone's work was instantly evaluated as it was on the old Millionaire attraction.

Then "Dreamfinder" said "Let's now see who's Imagination needs work"

Then it showed me on the monitor like they do to mortify a single guest on Laugh Floor.

(Nb That's the main reason why I only went to Laugh Floor once lol.)

And Figment was nowhere in sight.
Strangely enough I dreamed about Figment the other night too. In mine they announced there wasn't a V4 of the attraction coming, but that Figment would close anyway and that the last day had a 6 hour line that ended up going past the park gate, only for it to break down an hour into the day.

The difference is I don't know of anyone who likes/liked v3.

I think we all know it would magically have a 2 hour wait on the last day if they did announce V3 closing
yeahhh...but I wouldn't be in it. I'd surmise most would be there just to say they were the last to ride.

AND THAT DAY CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH!

You just made me wonder though...would I have "made an extra trip" to experience one last time a ride I knew was going to close forever? (maybe this should be a new forum?).

I didn't do that with the recent wave of closures simply because I've been SO disgusted with so many of Disney's decisions of late (plus "no time" lol).

The first major closure with advanced notice that I recall was Toad in 1998. I was like "that stinks" as I saw the green protesters and read the reports on the nascent Interweb, but I honestly didn't even think, either way, to go "one last time"

(I think b/c I wasn't driving yet/didn't have a car yet/didn't have money yet/etc).

But I loved Toad...it was one of the attractions I "mocked-up" in the home I grew up in. And I still miss the attraction at least as much over 27 years later (but not nearly as much as Imagination 1.0, which closed the same year...I don't recall any advanced warning for that one).

Every other closure I could think of before Toad .... I (& everyone else) learned of it's closure only by going to the park and discovering it no longer there.

That was ALWAYS a bummer to experience, which is why I think I still have the recurring dreams I alluded to earlier tonight.

after going to EPCOT (and epic) this past week my thoughts are...
-yeah the middle of epic universe is what the middle of EPCOT should be, I actually use to like the new middle of EPCOT but after going to EPIC and seeing working LEDS and fountains nvm and fully support the middle of EPCOT being one big fountain
- EPCOT still needs another overhaul
- Mission Space, Mexico, and FIGMENT need need need to be replaced or heavily updated bc they were in rough rough shape this past week. (btw replace the other two, keep figment just update)

I think most people would agree on the centre and IMAGINATION. I've just been at WDW for a week, not sure what's wrong with Mission Space and Mexico, they were fine as far as I saw. BTW I rode Mission Space 17 times in 4 days! I had one breakdown on it, they escorted us to another machine, but then again I also had a stoppage on Test Track and two e-stops on Cosmic Rewind, resulting in a re-ride each time. There were also a couple of occasions with stoppages in the queue in Cosmic Rewind before the station, no trains despatching, so I suspect it was an ongoing problem. Three times on Expedition Everest I was stuck in the dark on the switch track before the big drop for about 3-5 minutes each time. I don't think rides need to be replaced because of this sort of thing.

I just read on another forum that MK's AA are better than years...maybe the disrepair of Figment's a sign somethings coming SOON?

A problem with Tiana & Mexico AAs is proximity to water.

when it comes to Mexico I just think the pavilion should be a coco ride and also saw several things broken on the ride. Mission space I had a huge headache on after but don't know if that's an operational issue or just me getting older lol. But yeah, new figment and gimme some fountains. also having just rode new test track yeah its amazing, hope that team who worked on it gets to work on whatever EPCOT's future is

I agree. I was shocked at how again besides Tianas (which is sad bc of how new it is) and the long ignored Mexico and figment every other single ride was working flawlessly and was really impressed. props to WDW mamagment for finally getting this stuff working again

The middle of Epic was designed to be dual use. UOR has toyed with the notion of opening it up for free in the evening or having it open for free in the mornings. If you look at all the portals, there are three metal boxes where they can install their new entry scanners.

Only reason it would is due to Figment’s inclusion in it to the extent he is and the nostalgia attached to the character himself and who he was in the original, Along with the totally false title & description sign. Not because many genuinely enjoy the current Honey I Shrunk retheme. And that’s precisely the way they’re able to get away with keeping this ludicrious ride open since ‘02. The most asinine/bizarre, not to mention completely deceptive update to a ride you’ve ever seen.

Keeping Figment is of course a requirement keeping the current incarnation of the ride (and Character really.) should absolutely not be.
You may have just said the one "sure thing" of WDW: They'll never make the mistake of 2.0/YOUR again...Figment will be front and center if they ever replace what's there.

Say it louder for the folks up in Burbank/Glendale.

Real “clever” of them calling it “Journey Into Imagination With Figment” too btw, rather than “Journey Into >Your Imagination With Figment”, which would’ve more clearly signified it’s simply a “band-aid” update to the first badly received Honey I Shrunk themed Imagination Institute retheme. Try and guess why they basically decided to call it the same thing as the original. As if calling the first 99-01 redo “Journey Into >Your Imagination” wasn’t bad enough. And again, that descriptive sign outside, that’s a description of the original when the ride currently inside isn’t what’s described there at all, other than that Figment is featured in it basically. Insane

I think the fact that the signs for versions 2 and 3 being simple cloth banners rather than more permanent looking signage really speaks to the expectations WDI probably had for them.

When they first went up I was hoping the cheap banners meant something better was coming to Imagination "right around the corner"

....silly me.

I have another theory as to why they did that. No way to prove it, this is just a theory, but my guess as to why they added them too was because they didn’t initially have a cloth banner outside during the original iteration’s run. They could then possibly try to prove the case, “Oh see, there’s no way someone couldn’t find the ride entrance. There’s a banner clearly there to show the ride is there”. Rather than during the original’s run when they had that new awning and queue rope installed for Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, that would lead guests to that instead, thinking it was the main entrance or going to the same attraction.

Another thing they added was a clear directionial sign during the 99-01 iteration. Near the entrance, directly pointing out where everything (Journey Into >Your Imagination, ImageWorks: What-If Labs, and the Magic Eye Theatre/Honey I Shrunk the Audience) was, that wasn’t there prior.

I am not sure if people were confused or people were dumber in 99 than 83 or both.

Keep in mind too, the initial very clear signage pointing to where the Ride & Magic Eye Theatre was, to the left and right of the main “Journey Into Imagination” pavilion sign, was removed in favor of one near where the entrance to what’s now “The ImageWorks” & gift shop is. As I evidenced earlier in this thread in a ‘96 home video. On top of it, the new sign put Honey, I Shrunk the Audience on the top with it in clear bold red lettering, and the Journey Into Imagination ride was put on the bottom with a nearly translucent pink lettering, with a black and white drawing of Figment, on a weirdly darker shade of white aswell.
