BYU has a way better case than Miami, Alabama, or Notre Dame. The ability of the committee to just change rules as they go has really gotten tiresome. Forever, they justified getting Bama into these because "How you play down the stretch is most important, and Bama beat random 1-3 loss SEC team." That includes when they left FSU out because their QB got injured. Now you have Bama go 2-2 down the stretch, beating a 5 win Auburn and 3 win East Illinois, and suddenly down the stretch isn't a thing anymore.
I have zero sympathy for ND. You refuse to play in a conference, lose to your only 2 teams with less than 3 losses, and schedule NC State, Arkansas, Purdue, Syracuse, BC, and Stanford. The only reason they aren't bottom of the 10-2 teams is because of their name. But Bama has NO business in there. It really sums up why these playoffs are awful. Regular season was EVERYTHING before. It's quickly becoming like college basketball where you don't need to tune in til the last week or two of the season if that if you aren't a die hard of a team.
But ND knows what they are doing. They have MORE of a cupcake schedule next year. If they go and lose to BYU (which I think is a very high probability), they have NO ground to stand on next year if they lose 1 game. They are basically sticking the middle finger to the players who could have had a final game to worry about their next season.
